Understanding and accepting that we need to start slow and give our bodies time to adapt has been a huge relief. Zone training has also been a great reason to slow down!
Dude I don't know how you get so fast. I'm 33 years old, have done 2 half marathons in the past both 3 years at 9+ min/mile paces and trying to break through the 9 barrier. I felt like crap right after I did 2 miles at 8:30 pace avg. I'm now running 4 to 8 miles per week. My feet sore as hell, and even walking has been painful for the past couple days.
I feel you. Restarting and building yourself back up can be rough. Stay consistent and don’t forget those easy miles! I have gone as slow as 12-13 mins per mile compared to 7-8 mins per mile at race pace. Key is to build up your weekly mileage safely.
