Hit the eye hooks with a spritz of black spray paint.
Every day your property looks better and better! It’s so satisfying as a viewer to see you transform this space project by project. I pulled a bunch of monkey grass out of my front flowerbeds so I can have a bubblegum swoop (on a smaller scale). I’m so excited about it. Thank you for sharing with us every day. I look forward to coffee and DPWR every morning!
Bubblegum swoop newbie here too - I bet there are a lot of us!!!
Ooh, I like this arrangement! The contrasting colors from the iron basket, coco liner and the plants is so beautiful! Then you have the contrasting texture from the plants . It is so striking! Just love it! Thanks for the idea!
Hi Janey! So excited to see you’re planting mangave-love the combo with silver falls. We’re in Galt and planted ours 2 years ago and they’re huge (lots of water from the lawn) and blooming 12’ stalks-to our surprise! It’s been fun watching each day to see what they’re going to do next. Off shoots are showing with flower buds of some kind coming soon.
My mom and I will see you Saturday!
I love your excitement about your 3 pots of not having to do anything but watch them grow. Those are the best kind❤❤
The baskets look great. So fun to see you and Jason working side by side.
Absolutely stunning! These may be my favorite pot plantings ever. I could sit and stare at them all day. Glorious.
I really like the height the baskets ended up hanging. Sometimes hanging baskets are so high, you can’t really appreciate what’s in them. This looks really good.
Simple, yet big impact!
Yes! Your porches were begging for hanging baskets, which will give a cooling, tropical vibe! Maybe you could add some coral color to go with all the green, white, and black. How about the PW Toucan Coral canna lilies?
Most of your beautiful garden is “pretty”, these baskets provide a really interesting architectural element. It’s a stunning contrast. I was a little scared you were going to add a pink annual to the recipe- resist that temptation. These are so cool.
Hi there, I'm in Australia. Your garden is coming along so nicely. I love my garden and would have loved to have a large one like yours, when I was younger. The two of you are doing a great job!🌱💐🌱😍🦘🦘🦘
These hanging baskets are so gorgeous! The hanging baskets allow you to observe the profile of the mangave differently than if it was planted in the ground. Beautiful.
I love how the two of you work together so well!
Baskets look really cool 🥰
For more hanging baskets, if you’d like, try to thrift brackets that you can drill onto the posts at the outside facing position.
Love the baskets! You have some prime real estate on that back porch just waiting for some show stopper container planting!😊😘
Janey, these baskets are stunning!! You guys did a great job setting up the drip! It’s invisible now. I can’t wait to see how these grow through the summer! Jason you are doing a fantastic job!
Agave is like saguaro…. Sloth slow. Most people don’t know it can take up to 100 years for a saguaro cactus to get their “arms”! Crazy right?! I love any hanging baskets or pots! These are so cool! Love silver falls!
Love the look of the dark strappy leaves and the silver falls 👏🏻👏🏻♥️🫶🏻
For those coco lined hanging baskets I use these things called Soil Moist mats. They also sell a Soil Moist product that you can mix into potting soil that works quite well.
Diapers are amazing! Yes, I put diapers in the bottom of my hanging baskets. The crystals in the diapers are the same as in expensive potting soil that look like gelatin when wet. I'm sure Janey doesn't need the with these baskets. These look great!
Wowsers!!! Those are the coolest baskets I've ever seen. You nailed it!
I would add a couple of strands of creeping jenny just to bring out the yellow mottling on the mangave leaves .
the baskets look great
I love all the information you give out on your videos! The baskets look wonderful!
both my parents are from coastal cities; and the mangave name makes me want to buy one but the plant itself would make me proud to flaunt it. I think it is absolutely gorgeous is such a refreshing way.
Hi Janey 🌺. The mangave plants looks so pretty in these hanging baskets . Have a wonderful day .🌺🌻🌺
Great idea for sustainable hanging baskets that will repeat year after year. I would love to see more suggestions like this - perennial hanging baskets! When I was recently in London visiting my daughters, many pubs and shops have hanging baskets with ivy that they’re trained in different ways and adding in pansies or violas that stay all year round.
So fun to see y’all working together! Love the new baskets!
The hanging baskets are stunning. What a great way to use the mangaves.
Man oh man I wish I had a Jason.
Love the baskets! Suggestion-- You can center the bird bath to the middle basket 😊
Love the baskets, Janey! I have some large baskets hanging on my pergola on metal S-hooks (12-14"), that I found at Dollar Tree. Very affordable and gives me the flexibility to move them as needed on the pergola when the sun requirements change during the season. (I hand-water my hanging plants.) I have a supply of these large hooks in my garage for my gardening needs. They also work well on tree branches for wasp traps, bird houses, windchimes, etc. I also have a small container of various size zip ties in different colors that I use in the garden. They are so handy to have, and I they are my go-to for gardening projects. Over the years, I've learned that it's so handy to have the right supplies ready for projects, just as you have your container for drip irrigation! So simple, and yet so important! Your garden is looking great!
I love the three hanging baskets! Great idea! They look so nice on your deck!! ❤
Are you proud of the amount of beautiful gardening you have accomplished this year? OR, Do you feel you should have been further along. Personally, I think you have done a fantastic job.
A tip that I read for using coco liners ( and I did on my hay racks) is to use maxi pads or baby diapers to hold water better. Line the bottoms and it works great!
Laura did a similar video last week. I’m interested to see if this combo works. Normally the rule of thumb is to plant plants with similar watering needs. In order for the silver falls to thrive they need water, but a mangava only needs water infrequently. One may thrive while one may rot, or it may just work. You never know if you don’t try. Great combo of plants though.
Mangave are a fun plant to collect! Putting them in a hanging basket is a great idea, they look awesome. I got 10 different varieties 4 years ago and the biggest one I have is the 'Mission to Mars.'
I watched twice and didn't see where you mentioned where you found the baskets? I love what you did in the baskets!
What a fun project with the two of you! Loving those baskets hanging right there and I can't wait to see them grow. Love that even if I am in a different zone than you, learning, and trying is what gardening is all about. I can still share some of your things and I love it! Your spot is really showing out. 💚
I love the monochromatic silver in the baskets. It is so different and eye catching. I am so jealous you can do perennial baskets. I am zone 3b/4a and it’s impossible here.
This is a genius idea. I have one Mangave "Mission To Mars" that I quite haven't figured out what to do with. Now I do. Thank you!
Tony Avent of Plants Delight nursery and Juniper Level garden is also a Mangave nerd.
Janey I was surprised to see the mangave put in the baskets since their roots grow so deeply. They look fantastic. I just got a Freckles and Speckles with many pups to separate .
great video! Very nice to see how you installed the drip. Very cool. Thank you
Beautiful baskets for a beautiful ranch house.
I live in Grand Haven MI and went to Walters Garden Saturday for a fabulous plant sale fundraiser. It was crazy busy. I need to go back later to visit the gardens Lucky me! 🌼🐝
Really good job Jason and Janey it looks Beautiful.
They look awesome, would definitely place them on the 3 centre posts, can use brackets 🌸🌼💮
Great project! They are going to look fantastic 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦
I haven’t watched the video yet, but have you thought about putting a bracket on the post or hangs off of the porch and you’re not losing access
Looks so great, love how efficient you make your garden. I need to really learn how to setup drip irrigation!
Love the baskets! I winter in SW Florida Zone 10 and started adding Mangaves to my landscape they do very well. Now I’m going to add them to my hanging baskets so excited to see how they look this winter. Thank you great video.
Oh, you guys... love love love it!
Janey&Jason those baskets are fantastic for your back deck! I love interesting and different plants. Question: is Mangave a succulent? If so did you use a succulent type potting mix?
Great idea! The Mangave are really cool!
It feels like the basket needs a contrasting color to make the mangave to stand out.
Really nice and quite different, most seem to plant flower baskets I do anyway , that's something I might have to try.
Looks beautiful and unique!
Turned out so cute!!
These mangave are cool but we do not have those here yet. I would be tempted to remove the black fence by your new patio on the deck so it looks like the rest of your deck.
I’ve used soil bags as cocoa basket liners for years, really works!
Striking! Love mangave
Janey, from what I understand, Agave is frost tolerant. They're from the desert, and the temptures really drop at night. So maybe Mangave are also? You may not need to cover them? Or you could just move them to the greenhouse for the winter.
Well, the combination of plants in the hanging basket I'm going to copy you. It's beautiful
I love those Mangavé! Will try to source some here in France ...
I love Mangave, I have a huge Mission to Mars on my incline garden bed, she is spectacular.
Love it! Very different, but gorgeous,
Like Jason said they fit your house perfectly!
Very very cool!! I want them for my home in Florida! We are spoiled, 6 months in Florida and 6 months in northern lower Michigan, so I get to play with a huge assortment of plants!
You can go up a beam once at the side where you dont see it , not in center a run the cable all the way across the porch
Janey supercool hanging basket! These look like a best for the west as well…..
Those look great! I love it.
I love the contrast! I recently popped a few purple hyacinth beans into my raised beds (with trellis) and a few containers to drape over my deck railing. Excited to see how it does!
Looks pretty cool 👍🏽
That is going to be gorgeous! Dichondra falls in hanging baskets are the way to go! I have them in almost all of my containers...lol!
Love them!!!
Loved the idea of plastic bags or saucers inside basket! I’ve never done the circle drip in mine. 🙄 Usually just have one single emitter. Great video! Fyi you might consider painting those silver hooks black. They will blend in more. Great job you two!
Hi, I am truly enjoying your development of the property. I have a question about the no till method: can you start with rock hard soil or do you need to do some type of prep first?
my soil was rock hard!
Love the idea!
They look sooo good Janey!!
looks good guys xx
They came out beautifully!🪴
Those baskets are stunning!!!!
Hi Janey and Jason
Wow the hanging baskets look awesome, I'm going to try and find a mangave in our neck of the woods.
Have a great rest of the day 🙂👋
They are beautiful!
Those look so pretty and unusual!
They look very cool 😎
They look beautiful! Great job team! 😊
Absolutely stunning! Definitely something I would have too. 😍😍
they look really nice with the house colors
Great team work, they look great. It’s so nice to have the irrigation there and can not even see it 😊
What a great replacement for Boston ferns when you don't have shade!
Excellent
love it❤
Looks great, Janey! I am obsessed with the Mangava! I must get my hands on some! Living just south of Boston means I’ll have to bring them in for the Winter but, that’s fine with me! Have a Blessed Day😊 🪴
I love the baskets! The only thing I am not loving is the small birdbath fountain in that spot. I think it looks too small for the space.😊
In your last property you had planted a Summerific Candy crush hibiscus. Are you going to plant any Summerific Hibiscus in this property?
I’ve been collecting Mangave for a few years now and in researching care tips, I’ve learned they can take watering like a hosts, especially if you desire it to get huge; I water my plants more consistently. In turn they have grown quite quickly, do allow them to dry out some but they are able to be better utilized in mixed plantings.
good to know thank you!
Hi Janey, just a suggestion maybe remove the random railing ( where the hot tub is going) for a more cohesive look. Your yard is looking beautiful!
Very good suggestion!
I have always wondered why that was there? 🇨🇦
Very nice!! ❤M
Well good morning to you all again. I see, the whole crew is on the job even Monty you're
Master guard master gardener Overseer. Everything looks wonderful I love the idea. Did you order your mangave from Walter's garden or could you find it locally? Would love to have that set up. Maybe one day in the near future. Have a blessed day enjoy your gardening. The oklahoma gardener
