@ArcticExposure The volume is about the same however it is slightly taller in order to accommodate the larger LCD screen. It is slightly narrower. You have some limited control over aperture and you can control exposure with the exposure lock button.
@nrimo The K-r does have a “uniform” AF fine focus adjustment feature which lets the user make a front or back focus adjustment that applies to all lenses used on the camera. Front or back focus adjustments can be made on the K200D but these require both the camera body and lens to be sent in for service.
It's good that it's weather sealed. The K-x has survived many rainy days and lots of dust, so it's already quite good in that regard. The operating temperature mentioned in the specs for the K-r have to be kinda carefully set I think, the K-x has worked flawlessly in -30 degrees celcius, so I would think the weather sealed K-r would do even better :)
@UP5140SD70M It's between the K-x and K-7. There are many improvements such as focus points, improved high ISO performance, improved focus performance and speed, faster frame rate, 3” LCD and Lithium Ion battery.
@pentaxian1 I read wrong, I see it now "Weather resistant: n/a". I didn't see the colon and "n/a". I know the K-x isn't weather resistant, but it does stand up to a lot of weather (rain, dust, cold) just fine, I've used it in all kinds that I used mye previous camera in, the K10D.
Count me in as another Pentax fanboy. I'm the happy owner of a "Samsung" GX-1L (actually a rebranded Pentax *ist DL2) with the 18-55 and 50-200 lenses. It beats the daylights out of any point and shoot, and since I'm liberated from film, I can shoot as many shots as I want, and just keep the good ones. It's an old school 6MB dslr, that I'll probably give to my daughter. I'm digging the k-r right now.
The baterytype choice is absolutelly awesome!!! Using normal AA Batteries like with the Pentax KX or using the lithium ion battery all in the same slot. Highly apreciated! Because now you're on the right side. I like that freedom of choice in that case really a lot :) Pentax really made a great camera by merging the best of the KX and the K7 together. Does it also shoot DNG RAW files? Thumbs up
Looks a bit bigger than the K-x, which is nice, and the new AF-system is welcome. I read the specs at pentaximaging, but it said nothing about manual mode for video, is there none? :O :( I'm an avid user of the K-x for both photography and video, and I REALLY miss manual mode for video. Not having control is a really bad thing! Also, still not wired control option, just IR remote :(
Hi, I see this product description in Amazon: Pentax K-r 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 and 55-300mm f/3.5-5.8 Lenses (Black) But when I searched for 55-300mm lens (f/3-5.8) on Pentax website, I can't find it. I only find the f/4-5.8 lens. Can someone give more details about the Amazon's version of the lens? Or is it a typo?
@pentaxian1 Oh okay my mistake. If you're answering questions can you please confirm if the new 35mm f/2.4 is DA-L or is it DA with the L meaning something else?
@Echofromsomewere1 There are many improvements such as focus points, improved high ISO performance, improved focus performance and speed, faster frame rate, 3” LCD and Lithium Ion battery.
@pentaxian1 Actually we've been informed that it is not an "L" lens. The new PENTAX 35mm lens is designated smc PENTAX DA 35mm F2.4 AL. Although it shares some similarities with “DA L” lenses (plastic lens mount and does not have the “Quick Shift” focus feature), it will be available for individual sale unlike DA L lenses which are sold only as part of a camera body and lens kit.
@jjanglover12 3-inch LCD monitor (921,000 dots) (2.7-inch (230,000 dots) in the K-x), 6 FPS in continuous mode (4.7 FPS in the K-x), SAFOX IX (11-point) AF (SAFOX VIII (11-point) in the K-x), Dedicated AF Assist Lamp (AF assist (flash only) in the K-x), Dedicated L-Ion battery and AA compatibility) (AA compatibility only in K-x), HD Video @ 25 FPS (HD video @ 24 FPS in K-x), Focus point indication in viewfinder (No focus point indication in viewfinder in K-x),
got mine today ,fast AF and 25600 ISO and 6 fps is wow for this price range dslr! besides excellent quality in low light and fantastic handling though its compact in its class.cool filters too
I love the improvements Pentax has made with the K-r (compared to the K-x). Carolyn and Josh are great, too! But, why didn't someone put the K-7 that was recording this video on a tripod (or even a monopod). Seriously!
Please reset the camera to the default settings (MENU Button > Setup Mode Menu pg. 3 > Reset) and then shoot a short test movie in daylight. If the test movie also displays in poor quality, please contact your regional PENTAX Customer Service Department for additional trouble shooting. You will need to know what computer OS you are using and what application you are using to play back the movie.
@hotboipnoi lol im kinda a canon fanboy, but i started noticing that pentax is making great dslr cameras (although they're still not great with normal compact cameras)
@DV51260 Color is important, because when you go out with bunch of photographers with their cameras, you can pick out yours quickly. Don't know why Canon and Nikon's all comes in black. Henry Ford all over again.
Respond to this video... Improved HDR in camera - night scene HDR (True HDR - 3 exposures in K-x), IrSimple (infrared data transfer) (No IrSimple in K-x), ISO range 100-25600 (expandable) (ISO range 100-12800 (expandable) in K-x), “Sketch” and “Posterization” added to digital filters (all others same in K-x), Multiple image playback display 4-81 thumbnails (Multiple image playback display 4-36 thumbnails in K-x)
@Echofromsomewere1 k-x biggest complain was no af point in optical view, kx r has fix that, seem to had better grip, k-x grip is among worst i see. lcd 920k vs 260k will be very notice. high iso could only be better. faster fps defintie a bonus, wish it has 1080p video record.
I've noticed Girls who review Pentax K - R & K-X Will always stress the Cool Colors lol. Now that being said, If the features are included in what you are looking for and as a Bonus the Camera comes in various Colors, Then that is a Cool add on Bonus. But Ladies, Please if you want to be taken serious, By Men, You must Stress the Features, More So then just the Cool Colors. ;)

@Forkroute It's a little softer and more muted than the K-x however not as quiet as the K-7.
Great job Pentax! Nice demo Carolyn & Josh!
@ArcticExposure The K-x and K-r are not weather sealed but we appreciate you sharing your experience with the K-x! That's great news.

the AA battery holder is bought separately??? i would love it if it came with the camera! and how much is it if it is sold separately???
@pentaxian1 Is it more quite then the K-x? The shutter was pretty loud

@Forkroute the features are improved but the body construction is similar to the K-x
Love it already.....how much?

@xadacka The K-x, K-m and K-r all have stainless steel chassis. The K-7 has similar chassis construction, but a magnesium alloy body..

@hhltest1 You can control aperture and you have some control through your exposure lock
Hi Guys! Does this camera have MANUAL control in video mode? (Control ISO, Aperature, and Shutterspeed...in video mode?) Thanks!
@raviatyt Hello - that is a type-o on Amazon's site. We have requested that they fix this. Thanks for letting us know.
@pentaxian1 ok thats a reasnonable price....kinda......does this mean the K-x will come down on its prices a little?

@DV51260 Of course technology is the most important however, once you find a camera that fits your needs color is a nice option.
@moesgaard This camera is not on the market yet so there is no firmware.
@fhurvhur "I tagged you" - this is in reference to tagging people in facebook
@xadacka It is a DA L - you can check it out on our website
DAMMIT,you guys and your subliminal messaging, now i want one :)
@Forkroute Steel I think, Better than the K-x/K-m :) Not as strong as the magnesium alloy of the K-7 though
@anthonylai Yes, exactly! Free actors who work in the office.
will Pentax ever make a swivel screen?
How is the body, stronger then K-x?
I Love PENTAX!!!
God I cannot wait for the prices to go down a little...and I got myself a replacement of my old K-m
@ngvgnDOTcom it is 720p
@hotboipnoi lol im kinda a canon fanboy, but i started noticing that pentax is making great dslr cameras (although they're still not great with normal compact cameras)
I wanna buy it now.
@jrhineberger Sorry but you can't. The battery compartment is different.
which is REALLY better? K-x or K-r?
Right, the colour is the most important thing when choosing a DSLR.
can u put that battery in a k-x
@DV51260 Color is important, because when you go out with bunch of photographers with their cameras, you can pick out yours quickly. Don't know why Canon and Nikon's all comes in black. Henry Ford all over again.
Typo in the first scene!! "Shot with the Pentax K-7"!!!

Good move Pentax! Fills the gap between KX and K7. Curious about the high iso results too. But dude... get a haircut!
I love my K-x, because I have a personality unlike Canon users :D
I didn't know Melissa Joan Hart worked for Pentax :)
@Echofromsomewere1
k-x biggest complain was no af point in optical view, kx r has fix that, seem to had better grip, k-x grip is among worst i see. lcd 920k vs 260k will be very notice. high iso could only be better. faster fps defintie a bonus, wish it has 1080p video record.
