Made S.O.S this past weekend. Dried beef in the gravy instead of sausage. Bacon grease and butter with the flower gravy. Toast was homemade no knead bread. Righteous eats.
That looks awesome, Matt! We are headed to the Silverdollar city campground tomorrow morning. Going to be down in Branson for three days and enjoy God country and family! I want to make up some bone sticking biscuits and gravy while we’re down there. Thanks for everything you do brother!
@@jermezzy you could add sage and other pork seasonings and just make the gravy without the sausage. You’ll still get close to the same flavor without the sausage.
My grandma taught me to make sausage gravy. When I finally mastered it my grandpa was like now you can cook! I was 15. My now husband said I’ve ruined going out for breakfast.
Is there any other kind of seasonings I would go good in there? Because I made it exactly the same but I like to add a little garlic salt, pepper, and onion salt.
I agree. Firstly, save your bacon grease anytime you cook it. Comes in handy when cooking many dishes. When cooking B&G, cook the sausage then add some bacon grease instead of the butter. Melt the bacon grease in the pan with the sausage. The bacon grease adds a lot of flavor. After adding your choice of liquids add a bit of sage and crushed chili flakes. I use a pestle to crush the chili flakes even smaller than they are. Or, I rub a bit between my fingers or palms to get finer pieces and. And, sometimes I just shake the jar over the gravy with the full size pieces. Go easy on the chili flakes, use sparingly, until you know what level of spice you like. I add more pepper and no salt because the pork & bacon grease have plenty of salt. These ingredients take B&G to a whole new level of deliciousness. Learned the chili flake trick from a retired military cook. Best B&G I have ever eaten. And, I've eaten a lot of it. I can eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you don't care for the chili flakes which are so tiny you can barely see it, just use the sage & bacon grease, these two ingredients alone will bump up the flavor immensely That was my original B&G recipe until I discovered the use of the chili flakes. Hope this gives you some ideas. :)
As a British person when I came across this video I was so confused, I love biscuits and I love gravy but combining them doesn’t make it good, that’s when I realised it what American biscuits and sausage gravy 😐😐😐
Don’t go cheap on sausage the better the sausage the better the gravy.. I’m in Tennessee and I use Mayos sausage. It’s 8.99 a lbs. I only use it for gravy..
😂 Umm okay. Pepper is subjective. My family don’t like a lot of pepper. That’s why pepper is on the table. Your sausage has most of the flavor and one shouldn’t have to add much more. Maybe some salt here and there. But hey, what do I know.
@@thehungryhussey And VERY true. His Chili was the worst. WAAAY too thick and I HATE thick chili. The one thing he did well was Grilled Chicken. Simply Salt, Pepper & Grill over Charcoal. Done... I'm literally making your Sausage Gravy and Biscuits for breakfast right now. 😋

@@thehungryhussey It's always better if the gravy is too thick rather than too thin. If it's too thick, just add more milk a little at a time and stir for a couple minutes to see how much it thins out. If it is still too thick add a little more milk and stir, repeat until you get the consistency you like. Some people like it thick, some thinner. You control how thick or thin the gravy should be.
Why do people insist on wasting good sausage for gravy. Do it the real southern way-- cook a few strips of bacon until rendered and crispy. use the bacon grease for your roux, add milk until you get the desired consistency, then crumble the bacon into the gravy. Put on your buttered biscuits and serve with a fried egg and sausage patty. That's proper a proper biscuits and gravy breakfast. lol Bacon Gravy > Sausage Gravy
Let's be clear here. I like gravy and make all kinds of gravy. My family likes sausage the best, that's why I cook what I cook. I use good sausage buecase that's all I buy, is good sausage. 😃 Just because it's your thing, doesn't mean it's others. Make bacon gravy for you and yours. Bacon gravy isn't really popluar with southerners anyway. White gravy made with bacon drippings is popular and more so known as "white" gravy, but not bacon crumbles in the gravy. Do you...
@@thehungryhussey Hjey man, it's all good, like what you like, but let's be clear. Terminology is important! Just don't call it gravy. Call it what it is, a White Sloppy Joe. ;P
Wow, all those southern cooks, chefs on the internet, southern cookbook authors, etc. claiming "sausage" is an authentic "proper" biscuits and gravy" breakfast dish. Damn, what a scam!
I like to use hot sausage and then top it with a drizzle of honey.... dang it man! I'm hungry!

No, because the sausage has some in it. My family don’t do well with a lot of pepper.

I never realized how easy the gravy is to make.. I'll make gravy and eat frozen biscuits or the ones in a can.
Gravy is so simple, but people fear it a lot.

Hardly no breakfast place has good gravy. I agree with your husband.
That block of sausage gave me nostalgia thinking of some scrapple. Does Neese's do a good scrapple?

Scone is different in regards to adding herbs, chocolate, etc and the crumb is different.
I’ll be making it tonight

Is there a difference between like Jimmy Deans pork sausage vs. A country style ? I have only made biscuits and gravy twice in my life.
I don't understand why so many restaurants suck at this.
Most are pre packaged stuff more than likely.
Nothin beats sausage drowned in white cream. Pause.
Bless it!
So sausage, flour, and milk? Thats it?
Pretty much. Taste it for salt and pepper and may have to add some, but yep.
Put that on your biscuit! 😂
Yes. Yes
I always take out the sausage then make my roux then put it all together. This is waaay easier.👍🏻
I guess so, I've always done it like this and saves a step for me. Hey whatever works for sure my friend!
I think he's saying your way is easier hussey.
He came back with the milk
Milk is fine too.
I like to add evaporated milk.
Every video I see, it's heavily loaded with sausage, but I personally prefer a small amount of sausage. I want a lot more gravy than sausage.
We just always go with 1 pound. Feel free to back it off.

Buscuits, gravy, Sausage - none of these look anything like the UK equivalent
Also what is "grits"
It's a typical southern US (I'm from North Carolina). Grits are ground corn, similar to polenta.
Have it every day, but have your will reviewed first.
😂
Hold up where the hell is the pepper
Theres plenty of sodium, i wouldnt add salt. Amd wheres the pepper? Thats the flavor
I probably added pepper but didn’t show it.
U don’t really need salt bc sausage is so salty
Salt is always subjective for sure.
No pepper?
I'm sure I added some at some point. Breakfast has red and black pepper already in it.
where are the spices?
Tomorrows dinner
Simple as that??!?!
Yes!!!
No seasoning 😢 Put some black pepper and tyme and red pepper flakes in there!
Breakfast sausage has those items in it already. More black pepper was added, but honestly it’s not needed.
My mom used to make it all of the time at her job at the old folks place. ( Only if it was okay for them dietary wise) this recipe I shall try
Sausage looks different in my place 🤔 what can I replace this meat with? Chicken keema?

No pepper

Bacon fat for the rue not butter.
