    I remember my reaction when I first heard of the design style "Scandinavian" as a norwegian person. I was kinda pessimistic and thought "oh is this gonna be like our cabbin with yellow exposed wood and a deer on the wall?" but when it started to be broken down I realised "oh.... That is legitimately how everyone's house looks😂😅"

    • @LisaHoltDesign
      @LisaHoltDesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      LOL Vilde!!! I always love hearing what you actual Scandinavians think about the Scandi design style!! 😆🧡 SO funny that it's that accurate!! I guess you don't need a deep dive on this look - sounds like you're plenty familiar with it!!! 😂💙 Thanks for watching, and thanks for this fun comment!! 🥰💚

      Your videos are great. Can you do a video about what to do with furniture you already have? For example, I own an antique desk that I love. However,I am moving to a small apartment in Jerusalem and I am not sure where to put it. The apartment has a beautiful view of the Ramot forest which I would love to highlight. Keep the videos coming!

      The sign of a really good designer is one who not only truly understands and can articulate the different design styles (as you’ve done so well here), but can actually implement those different design styles in their work.
      I’m thinking of one famous designer who’ll say a space she’s done is Scandinavian or Industrial and it’s just another Farmhouse.
      A GREAT designer can do ALL design styles well. There are actually few of them online or on TV. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

    Greetings from a fellow black thumb! I am a recovered Bohemian Traditionalist who transitioned to Mid-Century Modern and is currently embracing the seriously edited Cottage Traditional Style in greens, blues, black, & white with some gorgeous walnut woods, white marble and mixed metals (it's like the maximalist won't go away).

    Finally! I’m honing in. Bohemian traditional is my jam. I’ve struggled to know what to edit out and what to keep. I’m bohemian, not eclectic. I like the lines, and symmetry of traditional style, but the pop of a little outlandish pattern mixing and extra gilt. My mom calls it “Early Bordello”. I love watching your videos to find out which rules I’m breaking, lol. Love your channel!

    Love your videos and this was especially interesting. I’ve changed many times in my preferences. Currently I very much like a tasteful beach style. I’ve also loved some English country house and country French elements. I love Welsh dressers incorporated in medium to lighter wood case pieces and flooring with wide plank and luscious accent rugs. Beautiful soft paintings. I love to walk into a beautiful comfortable room that’s uniquely furnished. Looking forward to your next video. Thank you for sharing

    I guess my style is just me. I chose an old 1922 house and am remodeling from then up to around the mid-50's, NOT any MCM. People used to save up and buy the best quality they could over time so it wasn't era specific. It really represented a life, not a trend. That's what I want to achieve.

    i made a look book with pictures from magazines years ago, i still am not sure, but i love tone on tone, creams, tan, and love rustic things, downstairs my rooms have different shades of cream, leather ottoman, side tables with iron legs, upstairs all wood furniture is cream and white, coffee and side tables are beat up wood, look like repurposed wood, with all brown leather love sest, sofa, chairs, it's our tv room and it feels like a warm blanket, downstairs with all the cream i have multiple wood dressers, apothecary side table, all light destressed wood, it too feels like a warm blanket. accessories are few, but not minimalist, below the clutter level. will keep watching, you are educating us, thanks for your time ☺️

    I’m like an industrial Victorian with just a touch of bohemian. I like to take inspiration from things that Pinterest says are steampunk style but with materials and colors that would get me kicked out of that club. I definitely recognized the way I decorate in the way you described rustic contemporary - overall tone is one thing, but the materials dictate a totally different feel from the original.

    Actually I love the boho style, but in a mix with a little scandi. So it gives color and interesting depth of Boho in a clutter-free envoriment. I hope this makes sense. But its hard for me to find the balance and not to over-clutter or declutter too much. Maybe because I live in a small appartment.

    just had an epiphany. What if you take different sections of the US--mountains and show what "style" is most popular there. Then, coast. Then Old South--traditional/victorian, etc. I think that would be fun. When I moved from Texas over the rocky mts and cascades, because of the topography, my whole style drastically changed. I call it my evolution. I love it. It makes me know I am alive and still growing at 60+.

    I have a huge problem with deciding style for my first apartment. I'm minimalist at heart, hate needless clutter, however Scandinavian style is too clinical for me. I love old furniture and dark color accents. And I have huge collection of books that I absolutely love! I already planned to use emerald tiles in bathroom and navy cabinets in kitchen. Lisa, first of all, I love your videos and detail, and you’re gallant Enthusiasm.
    It’s interesting how your supercadegories seem to fall along lines of time, historical to present. Is that generally how you conceptualize style? I feel that it’s important in a video trying to help people find there style that’s meant to be comprehensive, to suggest the most possible options for folks. An analogy would be asking a kid what they want to be when they grow up, a dentist or a lawyer? Without mentioning the fact that amid possible options include an acoustical engineer, freelance decorator, or professional scuba diver. 😂 you see my point? I mention this because if I were younger and seeking style direction from a video like this, I don’t feel that my authentic aesthetic is represented in these supercadegories. I find this video very useful in defining and understanding the context behind the dominant design choices in my built environment, but not helpful in understanding how I myself would style. Interesting non-time oriented supercadegories to explore include east to west transitions, place based fashions, timelessness of material choices, gaudy to spare (you do cover this spectrum rather well) and level of fancifulness. Fancifulness would include aesthetics like those in elven or hobit villages, space age sci fi influences, pop culture based themes, and another dimension or supercadegory could be occupation based themes (how a woodworkers house style would vary from a lawyers, “in type”). Not to steroeotype anyone, just... to present space for the “my style is that everything must be pink” kind of person; equally to the “my design style is easy to clean and kid friendly “ sorts of derived Aesthetics. These aesthetics are meaningful to people not because of trends but because the trend supports or detracts from the story of the lives of the people living in that design Concept. Cottagecore is a derivative of the fact that covid caused bare grocery shelves, people had increased free time, and the victory garden resurged. Those who could not or didn’t choose to indulge in the “grow your own” movement, were influenced by the farm aesthetics of those who were living it. Etc.

    Love the descriptions of the different design styles. I always wonder what people are talking about when they name a style. (now if I can understand the different styles of architecture in houses). That scandinavian style looks too too bright and too airy. Like it is going to float away. I feel the need to wear sunglasses and tie an anchor to me and the furniture. I guess I need more grounding. lol
