I just watched him perform this as a non-traditional encore (it’s currently intermission!) and I have to say it was some of the most emotional music I’ve ever heard come out of a piano. We can thank Rachmaninoff and his stunning Symphony for part of that, but how Nicolas brought the room to a silence with this rendition was some of the greatest few minutes ever spent in a concert hall. Bravo.
