A superb, energetic performance. It's especially gratifying to hear the gigue played with a triple background. It's a controversial choice, but it dances far more than the traditional reading.

This is just marvellous, Nicolas! Shame that storm Eunice will keep me at home in London today, as I would have liked to see you live with the Budapest Festival Orchestra

Of all the performances of the sixth partita, this is the one I come back to most. Yes, Schiff, Levit, Anderszewski and Sokolov have rendered great performances, but your sense of aestethics lines up with how I imagine this piece the most. I play it as well, not as good ofcourse, although your tonebase course has helped tremendously. Thank you for that! Hope to see you live one day. And if I recall correctly, you are now one of Schiff's students, right?

Thank you very much for your kind comment. I’m glad you found the tonebase class useful! I haven’t studied with Schiff formally, but he’s an important mentor of mine and I play for him occasionally. Where are you based?

@@NicolasNamoradze My pleasure! I am based in Amsterdam currently where I just finished my bachelor's degree in physics. Next year I'll be studying piano with Julien Libeer near Brussels, Belgium. Are you located in Europe currently?

@@florisende8015 Physics and piano -- great combination. Yes, I'm in Berlin at the moment. I have a recital at deSingel in Antwerp on February 3, in case you're in Belgium then!

@@NicolasNamoradze Yes, the combination is an apt one. My passion for the exact sciences may be connected to my deep love of Bach. How wonderful that you'll be giving a concert then, I'll be there for sure! If the opportunity were to arise, I'd love to meet and perhaps play for you.
Additionally, I'm wondering if you could give a quick word of advice. Currently I'm preparing the Toccata of the BWV 830 for an audition, which obviously involves maximally polishing and perfecting the piece. However, I'm struggling with just 'practicing' this piece due to two reasons. Firstly, this is *such* divine music, that it really feels blasphemous to pluck it apart and practice it in sections, like one does with other music. Secondly, the piece is so emotionally intense that it drains my mental reservoir very quickly. Voicing the French-overture arpeggios correctly requires full commitment, both mentally and physically and I'm not able to commit to that fully in extended practice sessions. Perhaps you have come across the same phenomena and could shed some light into it?
      Kind regards,
      Floris van den Ende

Apologies for this delayed response. Hope to see you there, and yes if there's a chance I'd be very glad to hear you play!
Certainly, I've often felt the difficultly with practicing music that's just too wonderful-it feels almost sacrilegious to put it in the workshop, so to speak, and delving into such marvels can get very draining. One suggestion I’d have is to try do as much of it as you can away from the piano. You’ll be surprised by how much work you can do mentally: not just studying the score, but forming your interpretations, using your aural imagination to develop a precise idea of the expression and sound you want, and even mentally repeating physical motions and thus wiring them into your brain. A few months ago I gave a presentation on mental practice for Piano League (you can locate it here on YT or on my FB page), you may find some of the tips and techniques I describe useful… Then once you sit down at the instrument your work will be much more efficient, guided by a considerably clearer conception. Hope this helps!
