  • The Perth Zoo first opened in 1898 and is home too some 1,200 animals surrounded by some beautiful gardens. You can wander through the gardens of the Australian Bushwalk, Wetlands, an Asian rainforest, the African Savannah, Amazonia and many more. With the exhibits designed to mimic the animals natural habitats and where possible utilise passive Barrie’s such as water, to improve the wellbeing of the animals. With many exhibits designed to allow you to walk with the animals walk, you never quite now which animals might give you a closer look. You can still take a ride on the carousel that first opened in 1947 and is still in operation. Since 1992, more than 4,000 animals have been bred at the Zoo and released into protected wild habitat. For some species that are on the brink of extinction this helps them, secure a future. The elephants are soon to move to another zoo to become part of a heard, which the Perth Zoo unfortunately doesn’t have the space to accomodate a bigger natural enclosure.

A sheer joy to watch. Many years since I’ve been there. Now looking forward to seeing the New Zoo.
My goodness how it has changed, lucky animals, lap of luxury!
Congratulations to all involved in up date. I thank you on the animal’s behalf.

Thank you Cheral. I love that you have enjoyed watching it. It is amazing how watching these beautiful animals can relax you. It is so good to see how they have improved their environments. It’s such a tranquil walk around.

This brought back fond memories when I took my then 2 year old son to the Perth Zoo back in early 2019 during my visit to Perth a few years back. In this video, I especially enjoyed watching the elephant eating the watermelons...lol. You captured the essence of the zoo perfectly Grant. Beautiful video.

Thank you Shiva. I’m sure your son really enjoyed the zoo. OMG I loved watching the elephant play in the water and eat that watermelon. I thought it was amazing how he carried it in his trunk then put it on the ground and gently stepped on it to crack it open to eat. 😄

Great video. Thanks for sharing. We don't have anything that compares here in the uk. The scale of the place looks huge a good thing for the animals 🤟

Thank you Iain. It is even more amazing that the Perth Zoo is so close to the city CDB. (You can walk from the city centre to the Zoo, catch a ferry across the river). It’s great how they have created more natural enclosures for the animals.

As always just love the music! Really sounds like a celebration to the wonderful collection of animals. Such a mirriade of lush foliage, just as important as the animals themselves. I've never seen elephants in such deep water, I know they are supposed to be good swimmers, they certainly seen to enjoy diving down to find the play ball! As always Grant shot beautifully.
Here in UK we are all worrying about the new Omicron strain of Covid 19, much as I think the rest of the world is. Face coverings become compulsory from Tuesday in shops and all forms of public transport. The government are also urging the public to get vaccinated and get their booster shots. Hopefully this will be enough of a fire break to stop the rise in numbers of infections. Otherwise we could once again find ourselves in full lockdown! Almost a replay of last year, we went into lockdown 15 December and stayed there until the following April! Hopefully it won't come to that🤞🤞🤞I have managed to get all the christmas present shopping done, I had come to the conclusion I would rather not be out in crowded shops during December if I didn't need to be! Just the wrapping and food shopping to do! As always, take care 🤗 stay safe ❤️

Omg I so hope no one has to go back into lockdown with this new Omicron… We are just hearing there are already about five cases in Australia on the East Coast… Let’s hope the world can get on top of this quickly after maybe lessons learned from the past outbreaks.. Great news that you have done all your Christmas shopping.. You just made me think.. I had better get started on mine.. haha.. I think you have the right idea to get shopping done early as possible.. we just don’t know what the next few weeks/months might entail.. omg I loved watching the elephant play in the water and especially how he dropped the watermelon and gently cracked it open with his foot so huge could scoop it up and eat it.. he looked so playful. Yes, the gardens at the zoo I think look rather awesome.. just like you’d expect to see in a jungle or tropical forest.. and it actually felt cooler under the canopy of trees.. Love that you connected with the music.. it seems to take me forever trying to pick some music. Stay safe, and take care. 😃❤️

    Hi Grant!
Well, we made it to Perth and we are in day 2 of quarantine… and our view is across Langley Park and over the water to the yellow Frilled Neck lizard and what I believe is the zoo beyond! Nice to see this video and know that it’s just across the river! Perth is looking lovely so far! Very excited to be here!!

OMG!! You made it Kristina. You must be so relieved. Especially with this new strain coming out.. So good that you got to Perth before who knows what might happen…2 days into quarantine hey.. I cannot begin to imagine how hard that might be.. but I guess you have such a massive light at the end of the tunnel.. 😄. Yes the big frilled neck lizard across the Swan River is just walking distance to the zoo. You can catch a ferry across the river right to the frilled neck lizard! Hope you have some things to keep you amused in quarantine. I guess there is only so much TV/Netflix you can watch. Hope it goes fast for you, so you can get out and discover Perth for yourself. Welcome to Perth Kristina. 👋😀👍 🇦🇺

@@GrantMenner Thanks! Yes indeed! Very relieved to be here looking out to our new home… it’s made a good impression on us so far! So far quarantine hasn’t been too bad and we were so exhausted after such a challenging year that we are actually thankful for the forced rest! We may think differently in a few days time! The view and video chats with friends and family have kept us entertained, but I hope to start the project of looking for a place to live soon… all very exciting! Thanks for the warm welcome 🇦🇺😊🇦🇺

@@kristinajansons-binns4900 Looking for your new place to live will be just the energiser you need after everything over the last year. Good luck with the house hunting.. I am sure you will be on the outside of that quarantine before you know it. 🤗

It was just as nice walking through the grounds and gardens as it was seeing the animals Kevin.. It is hard to believe that the zoo is so so close to the Perth CBD.. you could actually walk from the city centre to Elizabeth Quay and catch a ferry across the river and your are probably a five minute walk to the entrance.

How did you manage to shoot the video without herds of people everywhere?

    • @GrantMenner
      @GrantMenner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Haha. Trust me there were people around (once I escaped the primary school on an excursion is was much calmer..😂). But I did go mid week in the afternoon. I think I was lucky and missed the crowds. It would be much busier on weekends and now that its school holidays as well…
