tbh when her official design got revealed, my immediate thought was just “YES! SHE’S NOT ANOTHER GRAY CAT WITH BLUE EYES!”
My reaction was "EEEEEEW, both parents are double cousins" Since Bayshine's Dad is Thriftear's maternal great-uncle (making then 1st cousins once removed on one side) and Bayshine's mom is Thriftear's paternal aunt (making them 1st cousins on the other side)
@@clarehidalgo oh i agree that it’s gross/weird, the erins *really* need to set up a chart or something so they don’t keep pairing up relatives by accident (or at least keep a tab with the fan wiki open, because those people are keeping track of blood relations more extensively than the actual authors of the books)
And Changing Skies is the first arc to have all she cat protagonists!

Ah, I remember all this going on the moment Moonpaw was revealed! I made her an Albino cat who was hard of hearing (since, from my research, Albino cats can he hard of hearing or deaf!).
I think I saw it! It might be in the doc if I’m thinking of the same drawing. HARD OF HEARING MOONPAWWW
To my knowledge, dominant white causes deafness in cats, not albinism /lh. Albino cats are no more likely to be deaf than any others, but cats who have the dominant full-white gene are, and having blue eyes makes it even more likely!
Edit: Moonpaw's current canon appearance doesn't have any real traits of chimerism, to my knowledge: the split-face isn't all that rare in torties, and heterochromia isn't as rare in cats in general as people seem to think (it's rare, don't get me wrong, but less rare in cats versus humans, so doesn't really make her seem like more of a chimera to me). A chimera in Warriors would probably be signified by impossible color combos (for example, look up Narnia! He's black and gray, both dilute and nondilute, impossible normally) or other impossible combinations. Moonpaw's just a tortie with lucky patches that make her look split-faced.
One very cool thing I've seen is where people make Moonpaw a longhair-shorthair chimera, where she has some long-haired and some shorthaired patches along with being a tortie, (7:49 does this; 7:53 makes her both a dilute x non-dilute and longhair-shorthair chimera, I think, PLUS makes her a tortie and non-tortie-- and just really cute) which I find SUPER cool.
I'm not an expert on any of this stuff, so don't quote me, though.
That aside, loved this vid! The art's super cute.

@@yeetbeaver6162 I just wanted to point out real quick to look at her eyes. Usually a heterochomic cat would be blue and another color, since blue is the absence of color in an eye for cats. MoonPaw doesn't have blue in either of her eyes. Her eye color combo is pretty rare.

Edit: Honestly I'd dismissed the eye color at first, considering how Warriors is with eyes, but looking at it again, maybe that does indicate that she's a chimera, so I take back what I said before about the heterochromia. I just figured they were calling her a chimera solely due to her coloring (which they probably are), so I was a bit too wrapped up in my disappointment about that to look at the eyes.
I like the idea of Moonpaw being adopted into the clan, rather than her parents' biological daughter. My personal favorite idea is that she's related to Sol, but not actually his daughter. He'd definitely be dead or dying of age at this point, so it would be cool to see his legacy live on through her. Even cooler is the Sun and Moon name parallel, and the idea is backed up by the fact that she's confirmed to be a chimera cat, which are typically domestic, and Sol was originally a kittypet.
Also, you have a FANTASTIC taste in music. I know it's about the moon theming, but my knee bounced like crazy hearing The Moon Will Sing

Poor Moonpaw being the most inbreed cat in-universe if they keep Bayshine and Thriftear as her parents them being double 1st cousins (1st one side, 1st once removed the other (also triple 3rd cousins on top of that)) like it was already weird enough that Thriftear's parents were already triple 2nd cousins ( Double 2nd one side (as Ivypool's both parents and cinderheart are 1st cousins), 2nd once removed the other side). Hope they change the parents

I absolutely LOVE Moonpaw's design! Personally I'm not that big a fan of green and yellow together so her eyes were kinda off to me, but either way, she's BEAUTIFUL :D

I didn’t know about all the other moonpaw stuff just heard of the “is she actually a chimera.”(the simple answer is they don’t care about cat genetics, even still although split is more common for taurties, it’s also possible in chimeras. Chimera’s are only fully identified with dna stuff. Since it’s fictional cat the authors are the only equivalent of the test. so she’s a chimera) anywhooo all the other stuff that’s so fun!! Honestly when it comes to official designs moonpaw has the coolest one imo hands down, the amount of fanart of it people do reminds me of when people draw the moon cycles in gold colors and stuff like the eclipse or the sun with her golden fur against her black, they better not make her character boring or suck is2g

Even if the fandom is sometimes unbearable, I still enjoy it. There was a really cool design where someone made Moonpaw look sweet on her orange side with short fur and a round face then on her other side, it is all creepy looking with longer fur and her eye looks like a solar eclipse. This fandom is so creative.
Tldr: I hope they make Moonpaw a mix of Jayfeather with craziness dotted in.

the eye colors anr actually the proof needed for the cimaraism, as useally heterocromia is just that one eye lacks pigment and when that happens it is always a blue eye regardless of eye color
The controversy on whether or not Moonpaw is actually a chimera is a bit strange to me. Chimeras can happen in any animal and give a variety of patterns. It's entirely possible that it happened for Moonpaw. It's very rare and realistically there's no point to it because WC doesn't care about genetics and there's no way the characters could know about it unless Moonpaw goes through a series of genetic tests with samples from different parts of her body to make sure there's different genotypes there. But it can happen. And regardless of the probability for it to happen, whether or not it's a good decision or what the fandom thinks, it's canon now. It's word of god, it was established by the team, it's real. Moonpaw IS a chimera cat like it or not. Now, as someone who knows how the WC team handles things like that I'm not very happy about the amount of misinformation it will bring, but as a genetics enthusiast I'm really happy about it. Moonpaw is a chimera cat. The team said so. We don't have a say in it. And hey, it gives us really cool design possibilities now so I'm not complaining too much about it.

I mean she technically can be a chimera. Theres no real way to know unless you are very familiar with cat genetics and get a DNA test after recognizing the signs. I mean she IS a chimera just not a unique one. Some chimeras can have basically nearly impossible cat color combinations (Cream and black torties, blue and red tortie, black and grey tortie, etc) and also can make some patches of fur be a different length/texture due to the cats having different fur lengths in their DNA before fusing. She could be a chimera because she could have been one ginger cat and one black cat which fused embryos, although its an underwhelming chimera, it is one nonetheless. Hope this made sense. And i am not an expert i just had a special interest in Cat genetics a few years ago and researched everything i could get my hands on
she's very unlikely a chimera realistically, it's kind of a misconception that chimera cats have to have "half" faces (one side black and the other side another color) or two differently colored eyes, as yes chimera's can have both those traits but it's not a requirement, a chimera can have same colored eyes and plain colored face. to me she looks just like an average calico with heterochromia. there's a website called messybeast about cat genetics and they have really good examples of what an actual chimera cat is, they have much more bizarre/oddly patterned patches compared to an average calico or tortoiseshell. i just wish the writers researched a bit more because we could have had a really cool looking chimera cat with way more wild and unique colors than a plain black/orange calico copy
To be fair her specific eye colours can only work the way they’re depicted if she’s a chimera, but they absolutely should’ve done more research aside from claiming the facial pattern is what makes her a chimera!! Even just making the fur length different would’ve been perfectly fine if they wanted to keep the pelt the same
