The Song is from 2011. You've already interpreted it correctly. Till wrote the lyrics while they were touring in California and taking a short break. He was surfing and locals chased him away, saying it was their place and he had no business there. Paul said in the making of: It's about someone without a passport who won't be allowed into any country. But of course people should want to add their own interpretation. Great song and great video. Thank you for responding to this song 😊
Exact ! This are the roots of this song 🫶🏼 trip to USA, chill on the beach, rude surfers and we have a perfect topic to a next Rammstein song and a scenario for a good Rammstein clip ❤❤❤
I think this is just a first layer. Almost all Rammstein songs can be interpreted about Germany, so this song looks to me very close to Mutter. About not having a place you can feel fully home after occupation of East Germany by West Germany. Being a child without a mother, a man with no land he can call his own.
@@PalleRasmussen occupation of East Germany was a legitimate ending to a second world war. But when USSR collapsed and soviet troops were taken home West Germany just took all the territory without a proper legal procedures. Nobody asked what East Germany people wanted to do.
It's about all those people crying: "You can't be here, this is my country". And no matter where the person turns north /east / south/ west is told: "There is no place for you here.." And I believe there was an incident with the guys being told to "go home" while surfing in the US... hence maybe the setting in the Video.
I like your interpretation of the song and I believe you are pretty accurate and insightful with it. I believe the catalyst was when touring in the USA and Till went to go surfing but was basically chased off and threatened by some locals being xenophobic, to borrow a quote I remember from a comment some years ago about this song: "basically some local idiots who threatened him for 'coming over here and stealing our waves', that vibe". But as with anything Rammstein, there's always layers and i believe you're along the right lines. Also as you mentioned athletics and sport, I don't know if you have checked out "Sport Frei" by Till Lindemann? Highly recommend a listen and a look at the official MV, and lyrics for this one, and bear in mind that Till was being trained to become an Olympian. Adds a lot more to know that when taking it in.
Here in the uk its the same history first the romans, then the saxons and the normans. The English over the scots irish welsh and then the empire across the world. We've been both colonised and colonises. Every nation in history has been in the same position
Just wanted to drop this, there are a lot of Rammstein songs, including this one, available with english subtitles, mostly fan made. I think it makes sense to react to those if possible as it makes it a lot easier to get the meaning.

The problem with saying that we need to take care of Americans first is that they want you to think you have to pick one or the other. There's enough money to do both except it's in the hands of people who don't care.
Exactly! Compassion and empathy will only succeed in helping both. People can both take care of their families and support others that are suffering. Ofc, someone will put their own family/countrly first. But in my opinion, those who focus/use those type of phrases (Black Pegasus excluded) are typically self centered egoists (and often racists) that only care about themselves and typically do nothing that is not self serving. My country lucks hospitals but yet we promised to rebuilt a hospital in Kiev. Not only I do not mind, I support that promise. I cannot fathom me having 2 things, even if I need 3, while someone else has 0. We can both have 1 each and both do good enough. And often as you say, we can afford both but politicians use the "put ourselves" moto to conveince us that we can't because either they don't care, or want that money for themselves, not their people or other people,
100%. I hate when people say ''we have homeless here but we give a gazillion dollars to Ukraine'' as if before Ukraine they were giving it to the homeless. You can have both, you choose not to. One does not cancel out the other.

If your answer is, because it's spent for what you mentioned, than why wasn't it spent for the people of your country before the current events? Should've been tons of money available, right? The answer is, this not how a government works. The question rather is: what is a government willing to spend money on? The other thing about who do we cheer for: the winners. Well, that's a, sorry to say, very American point of view, which kind of plays into Rammstein's song: Amerika. The mentality of 'the winner takes it all' pushed on other cultures. It's gonna blow your mind, but that's exactly why other countries have a social security net. Because, we don't think this way.
There are winners and losers in nature but we're supposed to be better than that and move beyond. Sympathy, empathy, that's what makes us human. Animals can be powerful or successful or dominant, but Humans should aspire to more than that.

Parts of the phrases in the lyrics are taken from common xenophobic arguments ... that are not limited to the USA but that you can hear in many (if not all) rich countries (including Germany of course). Maybe the daylight scenes should show how those people see themselves and the night scene shows (them) how they really look like. It is a bit like the song Amerika (but harsher). First: Oh yes, that's me. Then: Oh no, is that really me? (Or: Is that really what people think of me?) By the way: The inspiration for this song was that Till - while surfing on a beach between two concerts in the US - was told by some local surfers (after they recognized that he speaks German) that it is their land, their beach, their waves and he as a stranger should piss off.

I don't know examples in history when occupation really cared about local people. They just make locals and their behavoir comfortable for their main land citizens. Hawaii had an absolutely pacifist queen, who was overthrown by the landing of two US Navy ships so that the USA could get strategically closer to the Philippines and Japan... and the rest is obvious
the song is refrancing the land grab by the powers after WW2, but they used the hawian/ southrencaliforni as a refrance for the video...thinking that americans would understand more.
Unfortunately you were reacting to this really average song and until now you missed at least two amazing songs/videos. Remember "Mein Teil", the cannibalism song? Check out the music video. You'll love it...maybe 😂 Also you missed out on one of their greatest songs, "Keine Lust", amazing lyrics, amazing video, very ironic, especially if you know them as a band.
There's an American flag right at the beginning and you're talking about Hawaii. Even though Hawaii belongs to you too, yet this song is not only about Hawaii..., just as it is not only about you, Btw: You should be careful with your pride, you had a dark history and the present is not much brighter.🤢
I adore Rammstein, but they are bog standard European leftists. The juxtaposition of 60's beach vibe with the ironic xenophobic lyrics are well executed, but also pretty cliché at this point. "Ach Klaus, I have subverted their mid 20th-century bourgeois imagery! Now I will skewer their nationalist pretenses! Ja! Das ist ausgezeichnet!" Like RATM, I just tolerate their political messaging and focus on the music.

You should react to Deutschland.
😊❤😊
Dude, check out "Ausländer". It's also an amazing video 😂✌️
React to Laibach Life is life but read wikipedia first 😂😂
Germans ..on a beach.. screaming "my land"..
When did this ever happen before..??
If you're going to start get political it'll make me start 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
"Our people"
You're going to have me educating you on usa in the 1800s until the 1600s because if you mention Queen Lil, and not Elizabeth 🤣 🤣 i will drag Oliver Cromwell into the debate and set you all straight with your early historical education and how the confederate battle flag was created by the Scottish!❤❤❤
❤
man you have to check out armee de tristen
You mean you've pulled the translation if the lyrics, or you can read the German and understand the meine understand mein oder dein deine 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 female male etc etc etc
Hawaii had an absolutely pacifist queen, who was overthrown by the landing of two US Navy ships so that the USA could get strategically closer to the Philippines and Japan... and the rest is obvious
Lol
All rammstein videos are great and different. Check out radio or Kein Lust.
Nip slip? you should react to Steel Panther...
This Song is about Putin 😢
had a dark Past?
LOL blue houses don't burn😅
@@robertruiz98 Pls what?
Keine Lust, please !!!
the song is refrancing the land grab by the powers after WW2, but they used the hawian/ southrencaliforni as a refrance for the video...thinking that americans would understand more.
Adieo ?
Goosesteppin for all!! Terrible.
There's an American flag right at the beginning and you're talking about Hawaii. Even though Hawaii belongs to you too, yet this song is not only about Hawaii..., just as it is not only about you,
Btw: You should be careful with your pride, you had a dark history and the present is not much brighter.🤢
