We always had a meringue on top that browned in the oven. I love the addition of the banana liqueur, the Lorna Dunes and that caramel sauce! I haven't made it the old traditional way in a number of years but I think that I would like to make a small one using your recipe. This looks amazing!
@@AshleyJones-c4m Yes in the oven. That is the traditional Southern way to prepare it. There is a night and day difference from the no-bake version. It's more work, cooking the Pudding on the stove and browning the meraige in the oven but, it is exponentially better. The traditional recipe used to be printed on the Jello Pudding Cook-n-Serve (not the instant) and the Nilla Wafer boxes. I think the Nilla Wafer box now only shows the no-bake option. Since there was so much involved, my Mother made it around Holidays, like her Rum cake. I learned to make all of it by watching her and helping out in the kitchen during the Holidays. You should try making it from scratch. This is one instance where you can easily be shortchanged by the shortcut. Once you try it you may never want it the other way. If you don't feel like fooling with any of it, Arby’s has a Banana Pudding milkshake that's worth sampling. Don't forget to have them add the Whipped Cream.💯

I use Pepperidge chess cookies and use flour instead of cornstarch. Gives it that real old fashioned rich flavor
