TBH I really enjoy the contrast between the way Krillin talks about Marin vs the way he talks about 18- really hammers home that he's genuinely into her romantically, not just lusting after her.
And my headcanon is that the reason Nail and Kami never fade into Piccolo's subconsciousness is because he keeps engaging with them- if he stopped talking to them, they'd disappear, but treating them like they're still individuals allows them to remain that way.

Works the same way for any creatives that bottle up parts of themselves in their OCs for company. As soon as you stop conversing with them, and simply accept them as a part of you, they fade away and you're a little more whole.

I always thought the reason the move is "forbidden" was the undue amount of insanity a person would experience with multiple people in their head all the time
The amount of foreshadowing with “we should REALLY get Taka in here…” throughout Season 2’s and early Season 3’s commentaries is similar to the amount of foreshadowing in the actual show.
I’m so happy he’s here, and if he’s not here for GOOD, I pray that he’s in Episode 60. His absolute best acting in anything.

The sheer horror movie buildup of Cell in your version is easily as good as the original anime.

The best part is that 17's the driver. I can think of like 4 different ways he could've gotten to "yep, going back." and they're all great.
For Popo's party it also makes sense that Popo sees himself as the heartless evil genie he always comes across as, only to realize later that his cold black heart isnt so cold once the loss of Kami finally sunk in.
You put it perfectly. He didn't realize "Wait....i actually care about these people" until his roomie went away. If he really hadn't changed, I doubt he'd have accepted Dende so swiftly.

I honestly love how terrifying Imperfect Cell is. He's like a cross between a rapist and a serial killer. Even when he's funny, there's an undertone of him being thoroughly unhinged.

Well to be fair how long in his time did he remain in Gero's lab fully aware of his surroundings then basically roam the earth by himself before he killed Trunks. So yeah unhinged is understandable.
Well, we know for a fact from his Cell Jr.s that his tail proboscis is his reproductive organ, which means that every absorption he commits in his serial murders is also considered sexual assault. He is quite literally a rapist and a serial killer.
Won’t lie, I WAS faked out for a split second, after all the hype waiting for this episode, I still remember thinking “noooo not nail!” the moment I heard them snickering though, massive relief haha
For me it was kinda the same, i actually thought that they would have replaced nail with kami instead. So instead of both their voices it would only be kami
Yeah, I got faked out for a sec. I got caught up in the verisimilitude and figured that, once Kami and Piccolo become whole, their healed psyche would merge and not allow for "passengers."

My go to line to break tension between people arguing is "Mom, Dad, please stop fighting" the EXACT way Nail says it.
i honestly like the idea that goku is allergic to grapes and just doesn't know it because he grew up in the woods and doesn't know what a food allergy is, where roshi is part of that kinda mindset of "allergies aren't real you just can't handle it" and so goku just grew up thinking "oh grapes are supposed to make you feel like this"

Taka saying "Hello... friend." in his Cell voice gives me the chills every time
I just love him singing a song that most people today associate with a famous serial killer/murder machine of a character, and finishes his song with a grin and a "hello friend" just so good.

Kami's speech really was a turning point for the show in all the best ways. Finally getting a bit serious and examining the characters (while still being goofy) was the best tone the show ever got. There are points from here on out where DBZA is simply the best DBZ dub. Not just a parody, but a straight up dub I could see airing on T.V.
I know you guys don't really like hearing that, but it is the truth and meant as a compliment.

@@bongosmcdongos4190 To be fair, DBZ was very much written by the seat of Toriyama's pants. They have an advantage because they know how everything turned out.
But yes, scenes like Kami's monologue, Krillin/18's romance, or the conversation between Cell and Trunks are 100% better in DBZA.
The best example, IMO, is Cell after 16's death. Instead of just calling him a worthless machine, he feigns sympathy before telling Gohan "he never had a soul." So in one fell swoop, Cell pushes Gohan over the edge and explains to viewers why they can't just rebuild 16 or use a wish.
Only real criticism Is I just wish they kept nails tension breaking jokes out of it.
Maybe 1 or 2 new comments out of him to just remind us that he’s still in there, but that’s about it.
Piccolos casual “I was a Dick, I get that” is comedically neutral in the sense that it’s funny enough while still relating to the situation at hand and anchoring him as a character contributing to a discussion.
And considering the payoff to after nail and kami fuse, I feel like the scene would’ve done fine without any jokes. (Which is something they learn to get better at later on anyways)

Funny thing is, is that in the DBZA canon Android 16 actually does have a soul and could have been brought back when they wished everybody killed by Cell back to life.
The reason he doesn't is because he chose to remain in Heaven, which is where we see him in the credits for Episode 60.
This was revealed in the Episode Breakdown for -Epidode- Episode 60.
I love Bulma in this episode. My PhD is in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology so when she has Cell’s shell in her hands and says her line, I always geek out.
The fact that she just dips after seeing Cell's shed skin kills me everytime 😂😂.

You guys didn’t really talk about it. But I really like the cemented relationship on kind of a dad role that Master Roshi has with Goku. Immediately knowing why he’s sweating purple when Turtle mentioned it. It’s small but god I love that cute little detail. “That boy can’t handle his grapes!”
I get more "great uncle" vibes as Grandpa Gohan was his beloved caretaker and Roshi was more someone he met later and spent time with that was both fun and work for him.

I always interpreted that Popo scene as him going "...Whelp, I'm a bit sad by this, but I rather not deal with these mortal like emotions. TIME FOR DISTRACTION!" and starts to play the music, but then he can only distract himself for so long before he has to think and starts to actually feel sad. So, I always thought it was a good choice for that scene!
26:30: the way Popo reacts is one of the many real ways people react after someone is gone. I used to live in a big house with 8 other people, and when I lost my S.O., someone extremely important to me (and to everyone living in that house too), by day 2 we had a party in her honour, blasting all her favourite songs. You may think you wrote Popo wrong there, but didn't. It is actually, weirdly, very accurate.

Normally, Namekians are around other people, so the other personalities in their head slowly fade because the interactions with other people drowns them out.
But Piccolo is alone so much that instead he clings to them for company, keeping them "alive".
then he lives on Lookout with Dende and Popo... damn that's sad.
But since fusion between them is normally forbidden, wouldnt most if not all namekians not be a result of fusion?
@@Chunkyloops But it was done often enough that Nail knew it could be done, and had some idea about what happened to the absorbed personalities.
That doesn't need an entire population, just a few who tried it before it became forbidden.
@@CheshireFatorum if that's the case, it was probably used a few times or even once by some old ass ancient namekians, and all other knowledge the current namekians have about the technique and why it's forbidden are just stories that they tell throughout the generations to ward their kin away from the technique. Now I'm just curious why they decided to forbid it in the first place.
@@Chunkyloops I mean - it literally kills one person to power up another person. Even in Piccolo's case, they're essentially imprisoned for the rest of Piccolo's life - or until they *do* fade. At the *very* least, it's not something you use casually.
It was probably easier to just forbid it and let desperation overrule the prohibition when necessary than it was to come up with rules under which it would be acceptable to use it.
I like episodes like this where you guys wrote Gohan as like...an actual kid. Seeing him be excited about a mystery is really fun.

I love the little worldbuilding implications of Master Roshi's "Boy cannot handle his grapes"
Sure it's a throwaway line, but it's just sweet? Like Master Roshi knowing his student's (essentially) allergy and reaction. It's probably not intentional, but it emphasizes the early DB father figure-ish role that he played for Goku and Krillin.
It kind of reminds me of his big scene in Super, but on a much smaller scale.
It's also a double entendre, as "grapes" can be a slang term for marijuana and Roshi is clearly high as fuck in this episode. So, y'know, bonus points!

My favorite part of the 18 shop(lift)ing scene is that the one driving the van is clearly 17, not 18. I just imagine him smiling to himself as he backs up to give the guy a good scare.
I love how well Kami and Nail start getting along. They just met, and are immediately acting like lifelong friends who have known each other for decades.
And Imperfect Cell still has one of the best introductions ever. The creepy singing and slow pace just adds so much to his intro scene.
It kinda makes sense. Kami = Piccolo. And Nail has been part of Piccolo for literally years now. So in a way, they probably know eachother really well, so them instantly getting along is kinda natural.
In my experience, it's really easy to make friends with a dude that has a pool table.
They did point out that Kami could hear Nail through Piccolo, so there is a chance he has just been hearing him poke fun at Piccolo this whole time lol.

If piccolo and kami could already communicate telepathically, then just imagine that kami was basically constantly listening in and commenting on things in piccolo's head with nail even before they fused. As if he can just pop in on the group call at any moment.
@@althelor it's probably a distance thing, like he could probably listen in while they were on earth, but not on namic. He didnt know who Nail was when he heard the voice, he just heard the voice.
That Taka Jumpscare will forever haunt my dreams but it was worth it to finally see his grand return
I really like the conversation between Kami and Piccolo in this episode. Kami got a lot of character development in this episode which was well needed
And I also liked the bond 16, 17, and 18 gain in these episodes as well

Yeah, It's kind of sad that the relationship between Goku and Roshi (and Krilin) is completely shafted until pre-Universe Survival arc filler.
I love everything you guys did with Krillin and 18; I actually think _Android Date-Teen_ is one of the best things you've ever made.
Also, I really appreciate how you show that the reason why Goku didn't want to drink grape-flavored medicine isn't just because he childishly dislikes grape flavor, but because he _actually has some kind of allergy to grapes,_ which Roshi is aware of from basically raising him for a few years. Similar to how in the original he _didn't_ just stupidly choose not to take the virus medication; he was told to take it when the symptoms appeared, but they never did until the androids showed up. (I know you guys changed it for comedic effect, but so many people seem to actually believe he just chose not to take it like an idiot.)
The same kind of pervert to tell someone to eat and sleep well, and additionally teach Basic math
I love the Nail/Kami dynamic. They were both people kind of trapped by their post, so fusing and getting to go different places, even if it's not their body, is kind of the most liberated theyve ever been, and they really get to let loose and have their personalities out in the open.

Episode 42 is ABSOLUTELY the point where this series took a turn. I mean there had been some brief elements of serious before, but the Piccolo/Kami scene just stopped everything and made it clear that they were kicking you in the feels. I’m glad they addressed how amazing this is.

@@solar7427 Considering how... "strongly" 18 reacted to someone mispronouncing their daughter's name as "Maron" in the Super anime, it's implied she could potentially be canon there as well. Honestly, out of all the fillers they could have alluded to, it's probably the weirdest one.

At least the Maron thing was actually funny and harmless, but good god that frog filler I fucking hated and their joke with it wasn't that funny imo.
Oh also Mr. Satan's manager in super is one of the filler Cell Games characters I think? That or she's just very similar looking.
So yeah a lot of the filler from the Z anime is canon in super.
Taka popping in at the end made me so fucking happy. Can't wait for the next episode!!

Having that right alongside Cell's appearance maybe with the audio cutting out to Taka actually singing the bit would've been awesome. But I'm happy with what we got because I sure as hell wasn't expecting it. I put the whole vent line out of my mind as randomness. Now it makes sense.

For me, it was also a very slight fear we wouldn't be hearing more of Remix's amazing performance as Kami going forward... but happily not the case at all.

I am so happy for Gohan in this episode.
He got a fleeting moment of just… being a kid! He went out on a field trip with friends and got to have fun.
Cell singing Mr Sandman is a perfect set up for how he goes out. He enters with a classic song, he exits with a classic song.
I was momentarily worried that the voices were going away. Also, Gohan's interest in insects in this episode was serendipitous since he's obsessed with ants in Super Hero, making the scene funnier in retrospect.
I loved this episode with how it shows Krillin fell for 18 not just for her looks, but also noticing her traits and characteristics.
That ending made me smile.

I could tell with how slowly they were posting these and how quickly they were doing Taka's solo reactions that we were going to get Taka for cell, but the reveal at the end still makes me so happy!
That Kami monologue is one of the highlights of this whole series, I go back to watch it by itself periodically.

When Kami snapped at Piccolo, it made me appreciate this show so much. You guys could do dramatic moments every bit as well as comedic ones.

20:20 I love, love, LOVE Kami's monologue so much here. It shows a rare insight into character you could describe as tragic. The eternal outcast having to choose which prison to be locked in, while he is facing an aspect of his dark past. I applaud you for this choice, while I came for the laughs, I don't mind staying for the feels.
Yeah, the way Lani explained Mr. Popo's attitude after Kami fused with Piccolo now and later fits what I've felt. Seems celebratory at first for the break, but as it goes on it hits differently. And I feel that works best for Mr. Popo, as even though Kami was his friend, Mr. Popo's general attitude meant it would take some time for it to really sink in what he's lost.
It's not as fun to be on about your bullshit when nobody's there to react.
I rly appreciate the dialogue between kami and piccolo in this episode. Its one of my favorite moments in dbza. It just feals so real especially to someone like me who spends so much of his life on his own and people most of the time assume that everything is fine when i'm quiet when in reality there is so much boiling on the inside that needs to get out. Can rly relate to this scene, thanks for making it!

Didn't like the movie. They made Sherlock too perfect, and his flaws felt glamorized in a way that didn't even let them look like flaws. The show toned down the style and showed Sherlock's ego in a way that gave some humanity.
