- France and the All Blacks played out a classic this weekend, Les Bleu holding out for a record victory. However, Sky New Zealand didn't want us using footage so we had a long chat about just where the game was won and lost...
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can occasionally do other things
watching before it's nuked by Sky TV NZ
they are quick to nuke the AB reviews haha.
Jealousy’s an evil mistress
Greatest pre match production ever
100% !!!
That haka with the respect of the crowd was amazing
We love the AB's, they're rugby legends for us.
That's the kind of thing rugby needs. So we'll probably never see it again
Sky Nz should pay you instead of hinder you.
Way better than the breakdown show they have on.
Fully, I’d rather watch squidge than listen to JK & Goldie natter on like two gossiping old women.
Thank you for doing this Squidge Rugby, you could have easily flicked the middle finger to Sky TV NZ and moved on to your next video. I love your content and was gutted they flagged your previous video about the All Black game. Kia kaha, keep up the fantastic work, a great promoter and journalist of this fine game. Much love from Aotearoa.
You mentioned that there will soon be All Blacks with 20-30 caps who haven't ever beaten France, but it's even crazier the other way around : looking at the 2018 France team, there's Sebastian Tao, who hasn't been picked this year, Atonio, who's injured and probably won't make it to the next World Cup, and the immortal Fickou (first cap in 2013 and still going strong, what a player). Most of the current French team, including Alldritt (50 caps), Ollivon (45) or Marchand (49) have never lost to New Zealand.
They never play in NZ otherwise that statistic would likely be different. All that means is that France have a 3-match win streak at home whereas France have not won in NZ for 15 years.
@@JTAIT-b7g ... And there is a good reason for that, and it won't happen soon. With TOP14, 6 Nations and Clubs Europe Cups, "premium" players can't and won't travel during the summer. A pity but it is what it is. Physically speaking, french players who played those 3 championships, can't hold it
@@JTAIT-b7g True. It would have been quite embarrassing for a settled French team and a coaching staff to lose at home to a very new look AllBlacks and coaching staff. going through their biggest transition since 2004. Dupont is a genius and when great players are marked up it creates space for other great players and France has many but Squidge surely that's not rocket science! Think you dismissed Roigard a bit too easily. Dupont world best player 54 caps. Roigard still coming back from injury which had him out for a year 5 caps.
@@JTAIT-b7g yes very likely, but this doesn't change the actual stat and fact that a generation of French players haven't lost against the all blacks. I really hope for Toulouse and Bordeaux to lose in the top 14 so France could send the A team in NZ. Very unlikely but fingers crossed
Sky New Zealand are one of the reasons for decline in rugby in New Zealand. They're prices and just overall watching experience have put people off watching it.
yup, they have been killing the sport gradually in nz.
Convinced Sky (Nine in Australia) is doing this on purpose - they have much more invested in the NRL. As such they push it much harder - to the point of spamming NRL ads during Rugby matches.
I don’t know about that. I bought a month pass for NZ$49 and for that I get 4 tests - England, Ireland, France and Italy. Seems like pretty good value to me 👍
@davelangrish9676 lol, that's some dry sarcasm
Just moved to the UK ...its more expensive here.
It's funny they mention LBB, Mauvaka and Fickou where in France a lot of people are talking about Boudehent who was immense
And think that fickou was not the outstanding
Cam Roigard is going to be very special once he fully recovers from his knee injury and avoids further injuries. Considering that was his 8th test and second-ever test start on his 24th birthday in the cauldron of French rugby against the more experienced Dupont, he played exceptionally well.
Going to be really interesting to watch him grow once he's been on the scene for a while - teams will start to target him, figure him out a bit. He's raw right now, but has such a high ceiling
French players that may be back for the 6 nations: Baille Atonio in the front row, Tuilagi invthe second row (imagine Meafou going out and Posolo going in) Jelonch in the back row, Ntamack at fly half, Depoortere as a center and Penaud and Attisogbé on the wings. Add those to the saqud that just beat NZ and you"'ve got quite a team
The best French team will loose if they tour NZ
Was waiting for this video all the week, and a bit disappointed we cannot have your lovely video breakdown analysis :( but still great video :) cheers squidge
I think I enjoyed more this format Idk why
You know even without the match clips, it’s nice to see your cheerful faces.
I've been blessed with a squidge video uploaded 48 seconds ago 🙏🏾
I've gathered the favourite food to enjoy that, bliss!
I just love these brothers. Their analytical skill matches the sheer passion for the game. It's fitting that they're welshmen. Wales may be in the doldrums in their rugby national team but this is a great rugby nation. They will produce great players and gel again. Rassie's charges are unlikely to underestimate the Welsh. Go boks.
Hit the notification quicker than Sua'ali'i has become a household name
Guys, I just love your passion and your expertise. I also do think you both serve more the cause of Rugby than most official chanels. Keep it up👍
The neutralizing of Dupont is more proof that we need more of the old feisty scrumhalves of old. They will never go out of fashion and when employed correctly, they can completely dominate even the best playmaker nines.
Lets bring back the pitbull scrumhalves!!
As a dickhead scrum half it’s so gratifying
He was actually not neutralized, he had a good game, just not an excellent one. Look at him around the ruck, his steps and his carrying create lots of spaces for his teammates. He just does not do that in his own half or less but this is brilliant. The French call it Jeu en Black (game in black) and it usually starts after some dominant attacking phase.
@ I agree completely! But Dupont’s game in the final was not about making half breaks or creating opportunities for others in attack like normal…
Instead he did all his damage in defence with jackal penalties, 50-22 kicks, and pivotal tackles. Leinster didn’t let Dupont beat them in attack.
@hitchikerspie Yeah he has to be one of the orchestrators of the counter attack in the world right now. Think you've got them under pressure? Think again, 50:22 incoming.
@@hitchikerspie 🤣 the best nine is a dickhead nine.
One of my favorites had been Byron Kelleher from the early to late 2000's. What a bloody nuisance he was.
So sorry to hear that guys, SKY NZ should be hiring you rather than blocking you. Best Rugby channel on YT in this Kiwi's opinion.
You guys are brilliant
Merci =)
I do not think we will ever see Wilmese again in Bleu though... Between the amazing pool of yourger player we got, the fact that Glathié is building for polyvalence and his last game against Ireland, I see little room for him =|
Also regarding 6 nations, we have a very favorable schedule, since historically our first game is the weakest, and we start with Wales, and last two are the strongest, and we end with Ireland ans Scotland =)
I don't even think we need him. Meafou and Flament are the perfect pairing, Guillard has been a very competent replacement, Taofifenua is still available and there's Tuilagi coming up.
Willemse has always had a discipline problem, getting carded more than basically anyone on that French team. His physicality might be missed when Meafou comes off, but overall I don't think he's a significant loss.
I agree, worth mentioning though: he's out now to get some rest after a serie of concussions. Hope he'll be better
New Zeland are realy a few handling errors away to be back on top of the world and I’m scared
Lucky against England, got a pass from Ireland and were beaten by a French side missing some of their top stars. Not saying they are not improving, but the improvement required is more than just a few handling errors.
The only thing I want to add : what a loss not to see Ntamack doing Movember... I'm so sad
france new zealand never disappoints ceemon
Great analysis, as always. Thanks a lot.
This was a really good game to watch - both teams played extraordinary. Both teams seemed quite evenly matched and small things like penalties, ref calls and player mistakes seemed to shift the scales a bit. I'm not happy the AB's lost but I think this is the first time this year where they have lost yet I consider their performance was quite decent. It's a bummer these two teams won't play again for another year at least. Next time I can see the AB's beating France, but until then, France has a number on us ;) .
From my French point of view, you've got a awesome team! See you next time Bro 😉🇫🇷
It’s interesting how much we try to post rationalise something. The result was a 1 point difference. If the game had played out exactly the same way bar for a hypothetical late penalty for the ABs, this entire narrative will probably be different. We love to use stories to explain what happened but useful to also look at stats for objective takeaways.
Jordie doesn’t miss the kick, France doesn’t get gifted a bs neck roll penalty, the game goes completely differently. No doubt some chances France missed that would’ve extended their lead.
At this level there’s a lot of external factors that win or lose you the game, it’s not all ball in play
Great video, loving the ending lol :D
Spot on about duPont v Roigard. Very clever conductor
One of the best games I’ve ever watched
very close game. Nz are just missing something, but they seem to be adding new little components under razor every game. Really looking forward to where we will be next year. No rush. No need to peak too early. Scott barrett will be learning, he could still be a great captain, each game he just needs to learn from his mistakes.
Oof I'd throw out Keiran Reid for that best edge forward but Ardie has the consistency, I do agree.
What a game
1:46
everybody knows
They know me where it snows, I skied in and they froze
I knew I'd see you his comment
You're exactly right about how they feel like a club rugby team, its kinda like rough dirty look that they're starting to embrace. Even in the haka, it looks and feels more raw and unstructured in comparison to the 2015 triangle shape formation of mccaws all blacks where it was super in sync and clean...where as now its rough, tough and a bit unstructured.
Hardly surprising this is the their first year together with a complete change of coaching staff and a load of new players. Not a bad place to start.
Easy solution: One host nation for Rugby Championship over 4 weekends (whole of July), last weekend final and 3rd place. This will free up a month for France et al to tour with a full strength (August)
I don't think France's game was exceptionnal (scrum, line-out...), and still they prevailed. C'est encourageant pour la suite, et pour le tournoi. I predict an interesting game against Argentina!
As a French, yet a non Toulouse supporter, I'm full in for Toulouse to not go too far in the Top 14 so we have players available this summer.
But I'm supporting La Rochelle, so it's still Atonio, Colombe, Aldritt and Boudehent 😅
Surprise about fickou while he is considered kinda washed up in France. No words for boudehent which is for exemple the Guy that lead to lbb try in my opinion
Razor has learned alot this year. The whole team is learning. altho they all can polish up a bit after France. We had France - Peter lakai schoolboy pick n go away from support def cost us points when he got isolated and turned over. I would like both Jordan Barrett and Will jordan to run in their outsides or straighten and pass early to back up more often. Rather than stab kick a useless unchaseable kick and then have it run back 50 m or kicked 50 plus metres behind them. It ruins attacking chances and puts us under so much unneeded pressure. Will had a 2 on 1 outside him and stabbed a kick to nowhere that got booted us back 60m.The forwards must hate seeing wasted kicking after all their hard work. BB was super wasteful with the boot too. Build more pressure ball in hand to bring on a penalty or try opportunity. I dont think Scotty B will ever kick a penalty in the last 10 if we are 4 plus behind again.
It's already agreed that not only the finalists of Top 14 but also the "premium" group of France won't go to NZ this summer. So no chance of seeing Ntamack Dupont or Mauvaka in the test matchs in NZ this summer even if Toulouse lose before the finals...
I think the French got a boost seeing the ABs opt for the goal kick (twice), thats why it was a bad decision imho.
Sure they beat the ABs at home by one point, but clearly NZ not far off.
One point or 30 is the same. Remember the World Cup.
They managed to beat them scoring 3 tries to 2 while having only 39% possession, what were the blacks doing with the ball?
@@kropotkine9640 nz had some clear wins on the stats board no need to get carried away with ur one pt win lol
@@kropotkine9640 They should beat them at home. Home advantage more settled team. great learning curve for our newbies. What did France learn? Not much because the next time they play NZ it will be a very different side.
2018 was the year Reiko Ioane come off the wing and moved into 13. The year if he stayed would have made him the best winger in the world, to the worst 13 or outside center.
Scott Robertson could have changed that by wiping the slate clean, but chose not to.
Im in NZ and I cant understand the thought processes of Sky and NZR. The game is dying here slowly as an etertainment event. The live audience dropping due to price and a product/game proritised for TV. Its in a slow death spiral as a Tv event with no live audience has no atmosphere so Sky subscriptions are dropping.
PS love your analysis.
It would’ve been good to get your view about the alleged croc roll
Putain I’m French and this the best rational, knowledgeable and interesting analysis I’ve seen about this game. Are you all speaking about rugby like this in NZ ? Even the comments are great
They're welsh, and gosh I would love more conversations to be like this
Two videos in one day? Is my calendar a month behind?
Shaun Edwards tends to avoid his 9s going full on in the breakdowns.
Gents... Please take a day off. I'm not complaining but wow.
NZ needs to be careful about whining about France bringing their "second team" for the tour next year.
There are a lot of strong players available for France that aren't being picked for the 23, but are picked for the 42 man squad. They know the systems & they're top quality rugby players also.
I wouldn't be surprised if France extend their win streak against NZ in 2025.
We'll see...
get stuffed. We should cancel the tour and play ireland or the boks.
Their first team managed a single point win at their home ground - what makes you think the second string team will put up a similar performance away in NZ? The last time France won in NZ was 2009
@@rhysduncan8676 July isn’t November. The AB won’t be as oiled as they usually are in November but yeah we’ll see. I bet for a +15 win or more for the kiwis, depending on the squad Galthie will bring to NZ. No doubt the AB will take it seriously after 3 losses in a row against france but yeah the young B or C french team will be hungry for sure
@@rhysduncan8676 It wasn't their premium team on the pitch last week and as mentioned, some players on the pitch spent half of the week before sick and in bed (the other "premium" ones being injured or still sick).
Anyway, please understand that this is the Top 14 schedule that doesn't allow the full squad to play on the summer tour. The French national championship finishing only 5 days before.
France will anyway send the best players available, no doubt about that.
@@Edgycoo Cancelling it would looks like the ABs are afraid of losing against a B team
Rugby!
If the All Blacks can find a midfield tgey will be hard to beat
Very good analysis!
About next summer: France will as usual send a 4th or 5th team to the south because of its way-too-long championship (many players should compete in play-offs atm and the others will need some rest).
Neither scared nor disrespectful to South teams, it's been like that for 15 years at least, calendars are so different to Super rugby or Celtic league ones!
We should use that tour t o blood new players plenty of them coming through there's a few incoming the North won't know about because they dont watch super rugby
On what basis do you come to the conclusion that France target the All Blacks as their benchmark game? Did one of the players tell you or are you guessing?
Let's gooo
France and South Africa both have 3 game streaks vs All Blacks…Rioko Ioane can “put that in his book” 😂
This pop culture reference does not match up mate
The All Blacks have some big winning steaks against both France and South Africa, so that can be added to “the book” as well 😉
@@Razzle-se9dw Well speaking about France, it already has been on our "book" for a looong time haha . We do know how wonderful The blacks were, are, and will be, always. It's kinda the main reference for us and we have the upmost respect for New Zealand.
You mean 4 game winning streak for SA
Go to history books and look at ABs streaks against both teams and some of the almighty hidings they have copped in fact every team in the world we talking 50 points or more
Goddamn sky nz!!!
squidge rugby stopped predictions due to curse, utube tried its adblocker bs, lol private mode no issues!
I think NZ will wipe the floor of a full strength French team down-under. Sadly, they won’t get the chance until the next RWC.
Sky NZ want people who talk up the All Blacks. not people who talk up the winners.
Maybe if the put a proper team up against NZ next summer they can do 4 in a row.
France like beating NZ cause half the team is Kiwi? Oh wait that's Ireland.
NZ need more Samoans, Fijians, Tongans etc. Didn't Argentina beat them also? :O
can Sky TV NZ claim if the source is French TV footage?
French national television is even worse every French rugby TH-camr and their mama are using screenshots in their breakdown to not get cancelled
@@simoncramail5936 But at least in France people don't have to pay to see the games (For my part I just use a VPN and watch UK or NZ pirated tv to avoid the horrible French commentators)
@@kropotkine9640 only the French team game are on free cable tv this year, I watch the other games on illegal streaming as well
@simoncramail5936 😂 cringe 🇫🇷 Canal+ are the best in the world for filming rugby, and even this match was filmed on TF1 channel, a lot of technicians are from C+...
@@simoncramail5936 for the test games it's almost allways like that but for 6 nations or RWC we have the entire tournament for free
Hell yeah
So... the video title doesnt start with "so" anymore??😢
But if we meet them in a WC Final tho we're their boogey team.
I hate how Sky Sport does that. Ruining the game here in NZ
Watched 3mins, not gonna continue. I'm sure its good but i need visuals
I've got a colouring book you can have that explains how to tie shoelaces 🤷♂️
@@liberateyourslack cheers breh x
What’s your issue with the All Blacks Squidge. I want to see analysis of BOTH teams, not just a DuPont highlight reel…
@@Kiwi_Haydndont think he has one, Sky NZ keep flagging the footage he's been using. So he had to remove his videos and can't upload anymore
Yo, Sky NZ - I can guarantee that this content will Boost your viewers! stop being DICK-tators!
🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
This Geo bull really is so stupid. It’s time we socialise the networks.
Everyone hates sky. Sky is a pain for rugby lovers.
Honestly these broadcasters gatekeeping their shit like greedy dragons, hampering fans from enjoying analysis of games which will lead to more people getting interested in the game and increasing profits for everyone. Short sighted and lame. You're lame, broadcasters.
My "interesting" take - The ABs are a bad rugby league team, playing union. They have two halves, and the rest are flankers, wings and front rowers being asked to do 100 hitups (one-outs) to generate "momentum". That's why they suck at union, it's somthing 10 years behind the curve. Too many "average" players with heaps of skills being asked to go heads down forward. Really, they lost this because they did not fron up on D, and they're too reliant on individuals than a system. It's 1999 - 2006 all over again. Easy to defend, and a team with any decent attack will beat them, baring some shite reffing.
Interesting indeed. Do Ireland and Japan also fit into your "bad rugby league" model? Those 2 especially have the fastest ruck speeds (I'd bet they're faster than the average NRL play-of-the-ball after they do their flapping fish out of water act every tackle)
they lost by 1 point...
@naddanbb old mate's been watching too much Sky footage - promoting league lol
The World Cup runners up and third ranked team suck 🤔
@@Alaster- No, this is specific to NZ, but it also demonstrated by the Wallabies remebering how to play rugby, and how France Defend. I'm not against rugby, I played it for 20 years, but NZ's current aim to be a bad league team
Thiiiiird
Um can every team in the world stop using us as a benchmark and playing out of their skin against us?! Sick of it lol just do that against SA they have the World Cup we don’t need every team to throw up their best ever performances against us some softballs would be nice lol
I don't think France was playing "out of their skin", in reality 2 teams from the top 4 played against each other and it was, as expected, very close, just like the match versus SA at the WC.
i know you are kidding ....a bit . But you should be flattered . The ABs are THE team to beat because they are so formidable and they'll always be so . Huge respect from a french fan who loves watching the ABs play their style of rugby . NZ are back (they never went away really ) and it is crucial for the game we love !
Take it as a compliment, it is meant to be one.
Coming from France we want to beat the boks because we can't stand them. We want to beat NZ because they're the greatest rugby nation in history, and the one we've had out greatest moments against.
STOP BEING COCKY, OR WE'LL TAKE YOU BACK TO 2015
