  • Would you believe us if we told you this plant‘s roots contain bacteria that suck nitrogen out of the air the plant uses to grow?? Tony is teaching us about the cycad, 𝘌𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘪. Here at the Garden, we’ve been growing some cycads for 10-15 years and are FINALLY putting them out for public display!

Cycads are magnificent sculptures. Just to clarify the caption that's embedded in the image at 4:15 timestamp: "core alloyed root clusters" should read "coralloid root clusters", as it does for the Closed Caption function. Who would have thought that a primitive plant could make its own lunch? Oh, duh, yeah, maybe that's why they've been around since Jurassic antiquity.
