I know alot of people won't "get" this pedal. But you get the best tone at 4min, lots of output and the fuzz backed off. I never thought the Octavio would be back! Nice demo
Helps to have proper speakers to fully appreciate sound, here. My boyfriend is showing me how these gizmos affect the strings' sounds. Excellent tutorial. Thanks!
I have this pedal and it sounds amazing. I would suggest everybody to try using it for other stuff than Hendrixy sounds (which it nails). Using it for chords and with the fuzz turned up is really freaky.
I just got one of these and it's a great pedal! It's just a cool, vintage sound. Seems like the good tones happen when you back off the volume and play with the neck pickup.
Dime both knobs hitting a cranked, overdriven tube-amp and revel in the pedal's sag, swell and bloom; roll back the guitar's volume-knob and vary your picking attack and strength to find myriad cool, exotic tones.
He used this pedal for purple haze solo and that's pretty much it. Good pedal , i have it and i use it to get feed back and higher octave when want them
I dunno, just look around music shops and ebay and what not. I just put this pedal on lay-buy at a Shmitt's Music store, it was NEW, on sale for $99. Next to it was a Hendrix fuzz face new for 109. If you're patient you can find good deals
When all factors are taken into account the fretboard wood makes very little difference in tone. It's mostly a feel thing. Purely a personal preference.
No, battery only! Awesome pedal, but it really needs an on/off led indicator. If you have one, the battery will go dead even if you unplug the cables from it. The level knob actually *clicks when you turn it all the way down, so be sure it's clicked down or it will kill the bat. I don't like fuzz, so I use it for octave only... sounds killer with a Keeley Blues driver and octave only setting on neck pickup
friggen cool effect. I wonder if that Rage guitarist used something like this occasionally. It's old school , but, has an everlasting modern quality to it.
I think what's great with this pedal is that you can choose the amount of octave ( I mean the mix between the fuzz and the octave). With most pedals the octave sounds just to agressive and is just not well balanced with the original sound. I would prefer this octavio above other brands I think
"Dunlop engineers took GREAT PAINS to bring the tone of this infamous pedal straight to you." OMG its so hard to copy a schematic... they must have died from all the hard work... Stupid advertising companies.
Someone at GC is clearly pulling your leg. The Dunlop warranty does not discriminate against places of worship or live venues. Their slogan on the box is Live to Play Live! I would suggest calling a product specialist here at PGS for further inquiries on gear. 503-670-4949
@RippedPantsBand The schematics are quite different. The fuzzface uses voltage feedback biasing, whereas the octavia's fuzz part has a fixed bias circuit. Also the octaving circuit adds it's own clipping distortion, although I don't know how much this contributes to the sound. If you don't know what this means, thats ok, I only know this because I diy-built an octavia :) In effect, the FuzzFace has a more mushy soft type distortion, whereas the octavia is harsher, more rigid.
I tried both side by side: Octavio and Voodoo lab proctavio. Voodoo lab: a little thinner but same idea. Octavio Dunlop: more body, more dynamics. Better mix with my fuzz, Analogman sunface. Also, more fuzz on extreme setting with Dunlop and effect more prononced at lower level. Much better wth another fuzz after. Much better dyanics. Winner: I have been playing since 1968 or something. It sounds good, believe me, I know!
If you haven't tried it yet, it's difficult but yes you can, I use a les paul studio into the octavio and the Hendrix fuzz face, and it sounds pretty good, better with single coils though imo
Which best suits your sensibilities? This one has less mid and high ranges. If you're looking for straight acid rock this would be good. If you want to do slightly more varied stuff perhaps the Fuzz Face would be more to your liking.
Andy your pointing is so funny :) I have noticed that you have stopped pointing to the pedal so much , but i think you should bring it back just for one of your new videos :P
is this what hendrix uses for the solo on the woodstock version of 'fire'? because it sounds like the tone just skyrockets up to this blistering, high tone right after he presses whatever pedal he uses for the solo...
I think he used a Mosrite Fuzzrite with Sunn amps but any fuzz pedal that sounds a bit "splatty" sounding should get you close. I know a Superfuzz would do a good job, benefits of pedals like the Superfuzz is that they sound very similar no matter what amp you use but high wattage American amps will be the most accurate decision :)
If you want octave up with this original design, sustain needs to come from other ways ( amp distortion or a pedal). That's just the nature of the old circuit.
This one increases, but unfortunately they use the term octave pedal for pedals that go both up and down. Its a little bewildering. Some even go both ways; the Univox Super Fuzz (which, okay, nobody calls an octave pedal, but it demonstrates my point well) has a strong high octave and a weak low octave as well as mountains of fuzz.
Hendrix made good use of one of these, but what if you do not have a Strat or a guitar with a neck pickup? Can you use it if youre guitar has just one pickup?
now this pedal, and the other Hendrix pedals by Dunlop, sound fantastic. However, I feel like the chords I'm using for the Fuzz Face and Wah take away from the tone (since they are very cheap). What Cables (both longer and patch cables) would you recommend? Thanks
i need some advice, i want to get some hendrix tones, was originally thinking of the jhe pedal but herd the tone is not so great, there also the fuxx face and this octave pedal, is there much difference between them? which one should i get for that fat nice fuzzy hendrix distortion?
Can't you use the 9v battery connector that comes with the Godlyke Deluxe Power supply? (It has the 9v battery connector which then connects to your daisychain line to the power supply) Thanks
@MayThisBeLurve Do you turn the level knob all the way down until it clicks off? Even if it's unplugged, it still drains the battery. Worst design feature ever. I still forget to turn it off sometimes and I've had it for years.
@waaaters funny with this effect, it really depends on the amp settings...I plugged my octavio in the shop and it sounded like this video, kinda disssapointed, bought it anyway, then took it home and SHHAZAAMMM! Balls out endless sustain, simply incredible. Really weird effect, but I love it..if I lost it, I'd buy one immediately to replace it...mine sounds like the gearmandude demo...endless sustain, but I know the issues you are dealing with sustain wise, but don't know why.
I heard that the Octavio and all vintage and nos pedals sounds more original when you use Carbon Zinc batteries. Danelectro make some great carbon batteries.
Hi Andy!! I'm gonna buy a strat from PGS and I can't decide to choose one with maple fretboard or rosewood? Does it make any difference to the sound or the feel? Thanks.
Yeah it's great! I don't like the click sound it makes when you step on it though. I prefer BOSS FZ-5's foot switch, although it isn't the best fuzz pedal.
Does anyone know if Ron Ashton from the Stooges used this pedal? (I mean, I know Andy's playing "No Fun" & "1969" @ 2:30, but was Ashton using an Octavio or some other octave effect?)
get the Voodoo Lab Proctavia lf your looking for a true replica of Hendrixs main Octavia pedal, this dunlops a copy of one hendrix never even used and the octafuzz has different components. you wont regret lt
Ah man, the HBE UFO is the best deal for a fuzz octave pedal. Superior fuzz on it's own with an octave above that works across the entire fretboard. Sells for less than the one trick Octavio!
I like the sound and I'm definatly thinking about purchasing it, but I don't know if I should purchase the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face first, or this. Any suggestions?
@ALBERTromano1965 I checked out your channel.....nice playing but you owning Jimi's original pedal ??? Why would he not be one of your favourite musicians......Give it to someone who actually loves Jimi.. !!! Please explain how you acquired it...love to hear the story !!
"the first knob is fuzz, which gives you that fuzz"
I know alot of people won't "get" this pedal. But you get the best tone at 4min, lots of output and the fuzz backed off. I never thought the Octavio would be back! Nice demo
Helps to have proper speakers to fully appreciate sound, here. My boyfriend is showing me how these gizmos affect the strings' sounds. Excellent tutorial. Thanks!
@GiannisSta8hs The fuzz and octave are all part of the tone. You will not find clean octave up unless it's digital, like the POG
I have this pedal and it sounds amazing. I would suggest everybody to try using it for other stuff than Hendrixy sounds (which it nails). Using it for chords and with the fuzz turned up is really freaky.
why is 'octavio' upside downio?
Thanks for pointing at the pedal every 10 seconds, I kept losing track of where it was
I just got one of these and it's a great pedal! It's just a cool, vintage sound. Seems like the good tones happen when you back off the volume and play with the neck pickup.
Depends on want you want. Octavia : fuzz and one octave up. Blue box : fuzz and one octave down.
if you heard the solo in The Band of Gypsy's "Who Knows" then you need this prdal
I've always had a soft spot for wedge-shaped pedals.
Just ordered one today. can't wait 'till it gets here!
Dime both knobs hitting a cranked, overdriven tube-amp and revel in the pedal's sag, swell and bloom; roll back the guitar's volume-knob and vary your picking attack and strength to find myriad cool, exotic tones.

this demo is for a reissue of that pedal Hendrix used.
Yeah, I have a hotrod tele which is pretty much the same thing.
I don't have this pedal but a fuzz pedal with a Tele is CLASSIC.
friggen cool effect. I wonder if that Rage guitarist used something like this occasionally. It's old school , but, has an everlasting modern quality to it.

im digging the fact that you guys are stooges fans, with no fun in this one and search and destroy in the swollen pickle vid

@Evinpar - Ha! No pointing in our newer videos, by the way. Strictly forbidden.
This is pretty cool, not sure if it's the most amazing octave pedal out there, but I love the style and the design.
There are so many times in this video I went, "oh my gosh, that sound..."
I tried both side by side: Octavio and Voodoo lab proctavio.
Voodoo lab: a little thinner but same idea.
Octavio Dunlop: more body, more dynamics. Better mix with my fuzz, Analogman sunface.

Much better dyanics.
Winner:
I have been playing since 1968 or something. It sounds good, believe me, I know!
yes, then you switch to the neck position and turn down your tone knob. It took me some time to figure this thing out but once you do, its insane!
If you haven't tried it yet, it's difficult but yes you can, I use a les paul studio into the octavio and the Hendrix fuzz face, and it sounds pretty good, better with single coils though imo
please, answer, i've got to know! i'm in love with that tone!
Which best suits your sensibilities? This one has less mid and high ranges. If you're looking for straight acid rock this would be good. If you want to do slightly more varied stuff perhaps the Fuzz Face would be more to your liking.
Andy your pointing is so funny :)
I have noticed that you have stopped pointing to the pedal so much , but i think you should bring it back just for one of your new videos :P
Does it have a slot for a power supply? is there any manual how to make it yourself? i really love that, but i don't want to use it with batteries
is this what hendrix uses for the solo on the woodstock version of 'fire'? because it sounds like the tone just skyrockets up to this blistering, high tone right after he presses whatever pedal he uses for the solo...

Does an octave pedal increases or decreases your note by one octave...? I don't really know what a octave pedal is...
@taariqtaariq
You can't. There's no space for an adapter. It's battery only.
You're smile seems to indicate that you really know what it is for-
You sly fox, you!
If you want octave up with this original design, sustain needs to come from other ways ( amp distortion or a pedal). That's just the nature of the old circuit.
@1:40 perfect tone for playing Blue Collar Man by Styx.
yeah im oppisite i chose the fuzz face, i kinda dig those deeper fuzz tones, makes my fender american have a fuller mellow tone.
This one increases, but unfortunately they use the term octave pedal for pedals that go both up and down. Its a little bewildering. Some even go both ways; the Univox Super Fuzz (which, okay, nobody calls an octave pedal, but it demonstrates my point well) has a strong high octave and a weak low octave as well as mountains of fuzz.
hey can you give me an example of a jimi hendrix song where he uses any octave pedal.
if u have a live vid for it too with jimi please send me as well
I was wondering which one better the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Fuzz Pedal or Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio Octave Fuzz Pedal ?
Read the info, it does but you have to play pretty loud to hear it
Hendrix made good use of one of these, but what if you do not have a Strat or a guitar with a neck pickup? Can you use it if youre guitar has just one pickup?
@Trakstar84 yeah you can use the fuzz face along with this pedal to get a more pronounced octave
now this pedal, and the other Hendrix pedals by Dunlop, sound fantastic. However, I feel like the chords I'm using for the Fuzz Face and Wah take away from the tone (since they are very cheap). What Cables (both longer and patch cables) would you recommend? Thanks

sounds cool..
its like a heavy fuzz, i guess.
is it?
and why's it hav to do with octaves?
@waaaters funny with this effect, it really depends on the amp settings...I plugged my octavio in the shop and it sounded like this video, kinda disssapointed, bought it anyway, then took it home and SHHAZAAMMM! hi whats the opening song in this video? like RIGHT at the start before you actually get into the video. it's got a sick dirty street sound to it
@ProGuitarShopDemos - Actually Now you can get both with the Elite Tone Fillmore Thunder.
how much does it cost? just to get a clue I love hendrix sound with the wah wah the fuzz the octavio and some expression pedal
What about a demo with the octavio AND the fuzzface?
the last quesion please, does this guitar gives you a feedback?
Analog octave pedals require special treatment. They work best with the neck pickup while you're playing around the twelfth fret.
love the design so you don't stomp on the knobs.
does jimi use this in the star spangled banner at woodstock
also then againthere is the Fulltone ultimate octave
the fuzz sounds awesome
I never knew what Octavio or Octavia pedals are? Whats the point of them and what do they do?
Does anyone know if Ron Ashton from the Stooges used this pedal? (I mean, I know Andy's playing "No Fun" & "1969" @ 2:30, but was Ashton using an Octavio or some other octave effect?)
with the power of soul :)
it's all about the fuzz
Is this octavio better than the proctavia from vooddo lab , in your opinion?
Thanks
Is there any point in having a fuzz face if you have this octavio?
get the Voodoo Lab Proctavia lf your looking for a true replica of Hendrixs main Octavia pedal, this dunlops a copy of one hendrix never even used and the octafuzz has different components. you wont regret lt
@punkdude543 He does say Fuzz with that upper octave effect, though
I like the pointy finger. In case you weren't sure what we're looking at...
What is that hard riff at the beginning of the video?
reminds me of Big Sugar I wonder if they use this pedal.
It sounds as if when you go into the higher octaves it takes away sustain. Is that a problem?
blue box is 2 octaves down actually.
Chasing Jimi is a lifelong run, but that Chicago Iron Octavian gives you some winged feet. Good luck tone hunting.
What would you reccomend. This or the fulltone octafuzz?
Ah man, the HBE UFO is the best deal for a fuzz octave pedal. Superior fuzz on it's own with an octave above that works across the entire fretboard. Sells for less than the one trick Octavio!
will this pedal sound good with an American Std Tele?
Here's the trick to an octavia style pedal: Send it into gain. You'll like it so much more.
I like the sound and I'm definatly thinking about purchasing it, but I don't know if I should purchase the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face first, or this. Any suggestions?
does this sound just as good with a les paul? its either this or a wah for xmas!
I've heard that you can never get the same sound twice with the Fuzz Factory though. And I've heard that the circuitry in the new ones is really bad.
@ALBERTromano1965 I checked out your channel.....nice playing but you owning Jimi's original pedal ???
Why would he not be one of your favourite musicians......Give it to someone who actually loves Jimi.. !!!
Please explain how you acquired it...love to hear the story !!
the voodoo labs proctavia sounds pretty good, and its about $130
Does anyone know what the song/artist is for the first 5 seconds in the intro? Thanks!
satch uses it on Professor Satchafunkilus and the musterion of rock
can this pedal be powered by an adpator or battery only?
does this pedal actually have an "octave up" effect? im not sure...
how would this work with humbuckers?
@ProGuitarShopDemos 9v adapter to a power board?
awesome sounding pedal- damn
Whats the difference between a fuzzface and an octavio?
every you can get: a flanger, a phaser, an octaver, and a DeviEver Rocket.
