Thank you. Honestly on any given day I can hit a wall with trying to do something. I have learned so much from others on TH-cam that once I figured this issue out it only felt right to do a video on it.
You’ve made it easy to understand this machine. I’ve just received mine last week and am struggling to understand some of its features (watched the long form tutorials from Sonicwave and Chris Lody, but still struggling). I look forward to more tutorials from your good self when you release them. 👍
I really needed to sit down with the manual to figure things out. It isn't an easy machine to learn for sure but if you are patient and continue to reference the manual you will get it. The tiny screen makes it tricky. You need to figure out what all the abriviations mean. I'm sorry to say I won't be doing more tutorials on this one as I have sold it and some other gear for the digitone 2. Good luck.
Thanks for sharing your experience here. Just for anyone looking for guidance on tweaking knobs, there's an optional LATCH function that prevents jumps in value when knob position and parameter values do not match. Stops those sudden changes in sound as you move to different channels.
Just got to sit down with it today and this is where I'm at right now getting my head around the time signatures for each layer and then the actual sequencer. Great piece of kit looking forward to getting to know it better. I think I may have to write out/score where I want tracks/patterns to come in to help visualise what's happening. Thanks for posting has this been a help.
picked this up on release, my first ambient unit and I'm finding it soooo much fun. Pretty easy to use but a lot of depth to discover. the online manual was pretty helpful too
This is a great tutorial. Thanks for putting it together! I think any instrument where you have lots of layers or intense reverb or long delays can really swing out of hand. Ambient 0 has some nice sounds in it, but I also get some really harsh metallic sounds when I try random things on it.
If I remember right there is a metronome volume knob in one of the menus. This one requires some manual reading for sure. It took me a bit to get going on it. Good luck.
It is a lot of fun. You may want to pair it with something as I think it's best for long notes not so much melodies, but I really have dived to deep yet.
appreciate your effort, I have to suggest you to cancel the auto focus of the camera so the focus stays only on the machine and doesn't skip to your hands all the time. I just preordered this device. I'm not a musician and an absolute beginner with synths so I hope it's not too complicated... How is the sound quality? and how to save the music? Thanks hope you still like it
Yeah I learned that lesson on a few videos. The camera stuff is not something I'm very good at but learning. To be honest it is not the highest sound quality device but this works perfectly well for what it does. As an entry level device you can't go wrong for the price and feature set. You will get hours of enjoyment out of it for sure just do yourself a favor and spend time with the manual. Saving is pretty easy, just have a quick look at the online manual and I'm sure you will get it. I hope you enjoy it as I have.
Thanks for this video. Turn your camera's auto focus off next time though, it's adjusting every time you move your hands. I've had my Amb0 for a while now but havent dug into the sequencing yet because it's confusing for the same reasons you're explaining.
Thanks for the tip. I learned the auto focus thing the hard way. I will say it took me a minute to wrap my head around sequencing on the unit for sure. Good luck.
Very comprehensive tutorial. I ordered a Texture Lab. Hopefully I don't over write the installed patch's. How do you save a slot, so this doesn't happen. I have a 1010 music Lemon drop, and would like to sample onto the Texture Lab. love your channel brother !!!
Check out the online manual on page 12-13. It is pretty easy to save patches but hard to describe without the unit in front of you. You have 8 banks of 16 patterns and factory presets are in bank 1. Just goto the second bank to start saving your own sounds. I hope this helps. Have fun with it but I would advise reading up on it. It took me a little while to get used to the Liven way of working.
@@SoulSearchingGaijin I have the on line manual and have looked at it, kind of confusing. So bank 2, you can have available slots for saving your own creations without overwriting, is that correct? I am expecting my Texture Lab this friday, and want to start sampling my Lemon Drop Granular. Thank You for addressing this for me in advance. How do you get to bank 2, what buttons are involved to get there? Your friend in synthesis, Expanding Knowledge. The Lemon Drop very easy to navigate for me, just need advice on the Texture Lab. Maybe it's my age or something, I am 67. Some instruments have a learning curve, some don't, that's my experience anyways, Much Respect my friend!
Thank you for this very helpful video. I wish the metronome on Livens wasn't linked to note length. It would be better if it was independent and fixed to quarter notes, irrespective of what patterns were doing.
Nice video but you should put the focus on the synth, then take it out of auto-focus. Leave it on manual focus to lock the focus on synth the so it doesn’t auto focus on your hands when they’re in the scene.
Honestly The only way I know to do that is to save the entire pattern you are working on and copy it to a new one then build a new pattern from there. If you want to save a sample you recorded you can check out page 49 in the online manual. Sorry I wish I had a better solution. Good Luck.
If you go into the Midi options your should be able to set the Midi receive channels to ones you aren't sending out from other devices. I honestly haven't had to sort that out in my setup so I hope this helps.
I am pretty sure you need to play the chords in live or enter them in step record mode. As for modulation if you push function"parm rec" then record/play it will record any knob tweaks. I hope this helps.
@@SoulSearchingGaijin thanks yeah it helps mines comes September so soaking up as much info the now. Thanks again and look forward to any more vids u upload
@@karl.weaver Thanks. I still struggle with all the details. In the end I mainly focus on the music but doing this youtube thing is forcing me to learn a lot. Always happy to get help along the way.
I agree I was not very impressed. I would say what do you expect for the cheap price. I have long since moved on from this piece of gear but it may work well for some. If you add some fxs and use it with other gear it can find it's place. In the end I guess it's all about your expectations and what you are looking for.
elusive machine. keeps dodging me so i had to put in a pre order. thanks for the vid!
I had to wait a bit for it also. Have fun when it comes.
@@SoulSearchingGaijin it arrives tomorrow! at last. ive been after it since it was announced.

Thank you. I don't really make these kind of vids to much but I had problems learning this pattern length thing and thought I should share.
It is sensitive, but once I got it, it flowed. Tiny turns on those knobs. Lock the params. THANKS for this. It is a Fantastic piece of gear!
I'm getting more used to it every time I sit with it. I really like it also.
I've never even managed to hear the metronome tic even when it's on… the UI on this is incredibly oscure

Thanks for this l haven’t dug into mine yet. I’m a drummer as well and looking forward to jamming to the patterns l create on this device.

The auto focus on your camera makes this very difficult to watch.
