    I cant believe they designed this so i need a torx screw to do the job. In any case, thanks for the vid, always DIY this simple stuff and save on maintenance!

    The cabin ait filter is by far the most neglected maintenance item for a vehicle. Thanks for shedding some light for people that may not even know they exsist. 😀

      When I bought my used car, I replaced it right away and it was black and filled with leaves. Car smelled so much better afterwards with a good detail too.

    Replaced my interior air refiner element recently. Super easy no tools job. $30 (!) From the dealer tho. I drive a 19 nothing special Camry on mostly paved roads. Kinda seemed like a waste of money now I think about it. 2 years from now I'll toss it and buy take out with the $30. Thx for your content.

    LOL on The Hadley Hens!
    A little personal experience on cabin air filters, from a Ford boy: Definitely not all of them, but on some vehicles that I've worked on... one can pull the filter every year or so, and either vacuum it off, or backwash it gently under the shower head, then leave it in the sun to dry. But some are totally nasty, and for what little they cost, you may as well pop in a new one.

    As a mobile hvac technician for ag and heavy equipment, a clean cabin filter is paramount. I've had customers remove them and the result is almost always a clogged evaporator the following season. If also seen clogged filters almost cause a fire due to the restriction making the blower pull too much amperage

    • @PhilthyHorseRacing
      @PhilthyHorseRacing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's also a great idea to make sure your evaporator drain tube (I'm guessing it's the white tube in this case) is free of obstructions

    Cabin air filters are the BEES KNEES!!! (Yes I'm that old) Evaporator cores catch everything because they are wet (except in the desert) and after some years air flow decreases. I have a picture of an evap core from a 2004 neon that proves my point but I'll have to figure out how to share it (which could take a while). Not running an HVAC filter is just as smart as not running an engine air filter which is what keeps Danny S in business.

    You graciously refrained from pointing any fingers but may we assume that the factory was responsible for the incorrect installation of that air redefiiner elephant? BTW, when I pulled mine out of my recently acquired Accord, it resembled a slab of compressed earth with barely any pleats visible. The fan did manage to blow through that to some extent so I have presented it with a medal for exceptional service in the face of adversity..

  • @DCMcF
    @DCMcF 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thick filters are similar to home furnace / ac coil filters that do cause drag on the blower motor sooner to blower motor repair/exchange. allergies are a good enough comprehensive reasoning. it helps to clean out thee duct work while apart too💜💨

    • @KrazyGoodMods
      @KrazyGoodMods 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +1 When I fitted my 2012 Silverado with a cabin filter, I went with a regular particulate filter instead of the thicker one with carbon. It still filters well, just doesn't absorb odors.

    • @DCMcF
      @DCMcF 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KrazyGoodMods another reason why they sell alot of vent air fresheners ;) sometimes you got to check the cowl vent by lifting thee hood and checking around thee heaterbox against thee firewall for a drain tube because debris clogs up thee system also, shopvac or compressed air does thee trick

    Was wondering why my 2006 Tacoma's AC wasn't working very good...Yeaaaaaah, was the cabin filter. Me thinks 8yrs between changes a little too long, but motor or resistor is out now. Need to get on that before summer hits Az.
    FWIW...Heat-shrink tubing works good for no-marring and stays in place better.

    Mine recommended changing cabin filter at 15k to 30k. Inspected at 16k and it looked like a rat pissed in there plus it was loaded with pollen , also somehow a cigg butt found its way in there. Deff increased airflow after the change and Im sure not as mildew smelling. I opted for the charcoal layer as well and seems like a nice cheap upgrade.

    I check cabin filters every oil change/maintenance service because like you stated a set interval really isn't practical. I have some customers that need a cabin filter every 16,000 KM/10,000 Miles due to where they drive and others where it's not needed until 48,000 KM/30,000 Miles.

    I also work at a Toyota dealership and want to throw a concern out there. Those that completely remove it, remove the protection for their blower motor. I live in Wyoming and the amount of leaves, dirt, and rocks and especially mice that can get into the blower motor compartment is remarkable. I just replaced a blower motor that cracked due to a rock. We have had to replace several blower Motors due to mice getting obliterated in them. And TRUST me you don't want that mess because it's harder than heck to clean out and the smell....oh my god the smell. 🤢 So my advice is to not remove the filter.
