    I have a special needs intellectually disabled adult child, & she loves Rich Mullins’ music, & watching this today is keeping her occupied since she can’t go to her day program at this “stay at home” time with covid-19, but God’s got this, too! Amen!

    I was enormously blessed to see Rich when I was 17 in Rockford, IL at the concert right before this one. I'll never forget it! My Mom & I had got there hours early and there was already a line. By the time the show started you couldn't see the end of it. There were 100s of people! Rich & co. cut right thru the line to the same doors we were all waiting at - no fanfare, no ego. He was just SO HUMBLE! Then we found out we were at least 300 people over the max. capacity of the sanctuary the concert was held in & Rich absolutely REFUSED to start until EVERYONE was seated! You couldn't fit down the aisles for the folding chairs. We all had to breathe at the same time! And then the show started & God showed up! I've been in Christ my whole life & have never felt God just like that before or since. Just amazing! Yes, Rich was just a man. And yes, he had a lot of problems. But when I think about that "great crowd of witnesses" up in Heaven, I can't help but think of Rich up there in his Roman sandals & cutoffs making us all believe - if even just for a little while - that God loved us and wanted us to someday go home to Him. RIP Rich. Look fwd to meeting you someday! There will never be another!

    I wonder how many of the people present knew that they were in the presence of pure greatness? Rich was a very humble man who never would consider himself as being great, but he was. A pure instrument of God's Love. I have missed Rich ever since he went home. What a legacy he left!

    My mother passed away on 09/11/1997. Her service was scheduled for the next Thursday. That Sunday in church the announcement was made of Rich Mullins' tragic death in a motor vehicle collision. The shock of my mother's sudden passing, and the announcement by Pastor Randy that Rich Mullins had entered into Heaven gave me a JOLT of shock and then, being from Indiana, and with tears running down my face, I had such peace. Not only the peace that passes all understanding, but that within days of mom's going home to Heaven...Rich Mullins wasn't too far behind. Mom enjoyed 40s and 50s music and, although raised as a Lutheran and having strong faith, she was seeking answers from me about being "born again." I told her I would sit down with her and explain more...gathering scripture if necessary.....sigh....deep breath. Long story short. Mom and Rich Mullins are singing in Heaven! My brother, Bruce, joined mom on 10/24/2006 (age 51...so young), and then dad, who swore he would not live to see 2000 (and without mom it was a struggle for a year or so); joined them both on 07/12/2012.

      It's like that in our church. The children are there, in and out to the bathroom with mom, into the next room with Mom or Dad holding them when they need to move, whatever, total age integration just as it should be.

  • @margaretsch

    Some commentators here say it's too bad the concert is "marred" by the voices of the children . . but I have seen quite a few pictures of Rich with children on mission trips and at the Navajo reservation . . which makes me think he enjoyed the company of children. It also shows us that although he was by then a famous, award-winning musician, he was not above making music in someone's home with a bunch of friends in a comfortable setting. Seems fitting to me for his last performance, to be among people the way Jesus so often was.

      Yup. I’m barely what I’d consider a musician but as someone who can play some instruments - it’s a self comfort for writing stuff. But it’s an enjoyment being able to share it with others that enjoy it. Numbers and money isn’t the same as being with people and everyone enjoying it together

    I can't get over how much Mitch sounds like like Rich when he sings. This video is such a blessing. Everyone asks, "who do you want to see/ meet in heaven?" Rich Mullins is extremely high on my list. I was very fortunate to get to see him in concert in this life.

    This crappy, grainy quality, poor sound video is AWESOME! One of my ATFs!! It kinda reminds me of the way Rich lived...what you saw was what you got....the real thing. Never a show, fluff or airbrushing, just raw Rich! In so many ways I think God used Rich to teach me more about His true love and how I can and should relate to him....then 30 years of sermons, bible college and Sunday school!
    Very cool video and must have been great getting to know him during that time.
    Thanks for sharing!

    I was on a Christian cruise with Rich Mullins, Sandy Patti & Kathy Trocolli, in 1996, and found Rich a great entertainer and a free spirit. Once we all took a bus on a tour rand he and his band friends rented motor bikes to travel around the island and missed the ship and had to fly to the next port to join our group. I heard after his death he was one week away from becoming a Catholic, my faith, but not sure if that was the case. I sure know he was a Christian who lived his deep love of Jesus and our Father and he is singing in Paradise today for ministering to many in his short life. May he rest in peace, knowing He was a good and faithful servant.

    I always wondered if he was struggling with alcohol and now I know he was after watching the movie Ragamuffin. . It makes me feel even more close to him knowing his story and his struggles as a child and a human being. Too many people expected Rich to be perfect but naturally he wasn't nor am I.
    I'm positive the Lord and Rich are walking barefoot side by side in Heaven.
    God bless you all who love God and we'll meet up someday.

    • @objectivitycave11
      @objectivitycave11 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      what caused his struggle is the same struggle that is causing my desire for alcohol as well.. human nature, along with the hypocrisy of religion and the apparent grace of God to speak truth in love without fear. Seemingly, "the church" is unwilling to compromise with their sinners, they'd rather do it with the world while withholding truth. The ministry of truth really doesn't like truth all that much.

    Me and my three children were driving up to Oregon the day Rich Mullins died in a car accident and we heard the news on the radio while driving. I still can't accept that he is no longer with us probably because in my radio days from 1989-1993 I had played not just one song of his, but whole albums at any given time of day or day of the week non-stop, just because. I saw a video concert where he told people to not show up to Christian concerts for a church message, but to show up for entertainment, but he always gave a message anyhow, regardless of whatever he spoke about. ANYWAY, appreciate people while they're alive and don't wait for legends before you know who they are. Know living legends. And the children's screams and voices in this video were just as good as the music.

I think I wasn't exposed to his music until after he died and I still have the 2 CD set of Homeless Man/The Jesus Album. I wasn't going to go - didn't have alot of money and was fostering my husbands great nephew whom I thought would be so bored he would make a fuss and I'd have to leave anyway...but, I just had a feeling I had to go...My nephew and I so enjoyed it and the girl taking tickets did not charge him full price so we sang with him and it became a bonding moment for us.

I knew Mark was involved w/ that studio in Elgin. I heard it through the grapevine Rich was going to be in the area. Meeting Rich at Cornerstone was nice. You got a concert at your house!? @@jimjohnson6844 Yes he was possibly even to act as an emcee. I'm unsure of his exact role but will always regret the missed chance to meet him and hear him play and pray live. His devotion to St. Francis of Assisi in the years leading up to his death was also fascinating to me coming from a non-Catholic Christian (a.k.a. Kids of St. Frank and his take on the saint's Canticle of the Sun (Rich's hymn I believe was Canticle of the Plains). But I loved his ecumenical spirit and in those years a lot of Catholics I knew (including me!)-- teens and adults a like were becoming big fans of his. I heard a lot of his Jesus Record hymns on my youth/young adult retreats at Teens Encounter Christ in the early 2000's, too.

    Did you know an interesting fact about Jesus (shown here by Rich) is that the majority of Christ's ministry was in HOMES... amazing huh/?
    Fitting how Rich shared Christ so freely, so naturally...I pray that is all or our experience walking with Christ...not the show, not the place we go, but WHO CHRIST IS IN US MOMENT BY MOMENT...

    You never know when God will take you home. Enjoy the work He has set before you... finish well.... be the person God created you to be, use your gifts for Him. Studio work can be enjoyable....share your heart... Teamwork and Discipleship in music was a priority to him this night, as well as introduction of a new work using instrumentals, and sharing God's truth through personal testimony.

    Thank you for posting this precious video. Rich had such a compassionate heart blessing people everywhere he went. Above anything else his message was of Gods love for us. Im finally after my 40 yrs of life finally realize that love and forgiveness is what its ALL about. Not what we can do to be good. We all fall short but God's love is far more then we can ever comprehend. I wish so much I could have gotten a chance to thank Rich for the God given talent he shared. Hes where we strive to go.

    The fact that he was on the "journey home" to the Catholic Church is such a blessing to me. This guy was really tuned into Jesus!

      Heard that was a rumor, there were things in the Catholic church he could not accept, just admired life of Francess, of Assisi.

      There were things Jesus' own disciples could not accept (John 6:66), like Jesus saying unless we eat his body and drink his blood, will remain in Him. Rumors are often wishful thinking.

    • @noonanmania1
      @noonanmania1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich transcended this "Catholic Rumor." Why does it have to be about Catholics? Because they think they're the only truth church... so they want to claim a man inspired by the Spirit of God.

    • @ElKabong61
      @ElKabong61 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      noonanmania1 because the Catholic Church is the only church that was founded by Jesus Christ and all others were founded by man. If you have an Android phone, "Ask Google" who founded any other church and then ask it who founded the Catholic Church! Because the Catholic Church gave us the whole bible and it alone has had the authority to decide what is canonical and what was not. Martin Luther actually wanted to get rid of a few books in the New Testament!

    Rich is such an inspiration. He died when I was 3 years old. I had the amazing privilege of drumming on tour for Eric, the cello player in this video, in 2013. Even though the style of worship music is completely different today, Rich is one of my biggest role models. Such a kind and genuine man who wanted everyone to chase after Jesus.

    What a beautiful soul. Have loved his music for many years. Saw him in concert at Franciscan University in early '90's. This concert in your home was on my wedding day. He died around the same time as other greats... Princess Diana and Mother Theresa. May he rest in peace.

    I feel cheated to have not met him in this life.
    His story, the music and the fruit of his labors are testimony to this man's spirit.
    I look forward to meeting him.

    I first heard Rich when I went to a CIY Conference in Missouri when I was 14 years old in the summer of 1988.
    I believe the second night we were there he gave a concert and it was the first time I ever heard “Awesome God”.
    It was beautiful with the audience singing along but the one song that really struck a cord with me and has since then always been one of my favorites was “Elijah”.

    I've noticed something interesting about Rich. He recorded 9 albums in his career. His last album "The Jesus Demos" contained 9 songs, which he recorded 9 days before his death on 9/19/97. His full name also contains 19 letters. The number 999 is known to be an "Angel number" as it is the last whole number. It is said to signify the end of a life cycle and the beginning of the next. It's almost as if he knew his time was near. It just boggles my mind.
