AMD RX6400 vs Arc A380. The Budget comparison you didn't know you wanted.

- I've tested both of these cards recently on older hardware, but not on a comparatively newer system. Both are supposed to be PCIe Gen 4 cards, so how did they do? Testing with an i7 #12700KF, we can see whether #AMD or #Intel owns the budget space.
*NOTE - AT 4:05 The Forza Horizon slide inadvertently shows the GTX1660 label, but the data is for the rx6400, sorry for any confusion. * Thank you @injurera for the catch.

I am using that RX 6400 on my HP Z240 E3-1240 SFF HTPC,. Works great for it's purpose. Haven't used it much for gaming, though.
Thanks for the great vids, have good one.
Alan, from Canada. 😆
I'm very happy with the overall performance of the 6400, especially with the not needing external power. In some of the slimmer Small Form Factor PCs its a great option.
thanks for the vid Paul 👍
My pleasure
Appreciate the comparison. With the RX 6400's deficiency on PCIE gen 3, I'm curious how much space there is between the performance of the RX 6400 and low profile RX 550 on a Gen 3 system. Is that a comparison you've already done?
I haven't compared those two directly, but in the results list I do have against the RX560, the 6400 was about 50% better on the older PCIe bus. i5 4670 and i5 10105F.
Still hoping I can try an ARC at some point. I don’t see any used ones for sale yet and they are still not cheap enough to enter my wheelhouse.
Also, does anyone actually play cyberpunk? LOL
i seen a a380 for 65$ used, but the seller stopped messaging :c
@@andy.garcia92 That would have been great.
I do see a lot of people use CBPK for benchmark testing, but you're right, I don't many people actually still playing it. I bought Startfield because I thought it would be a great game and good for benchmarking and it's neither. I don't see many ARC cards used yet, which is also an indication of people being satisfied with buying them. Hopefully, you'll be able to find one soon. Maybe when Battlemage comes out, people will be letting some of the ARCs go.
I did some benchmarking on these 2 cards plus the 6500XT and the A750 with ryzen 3600 & 5600 on both PCIE 3.0 & 4.0 MoBo's and the only game that really used the PCIE 4.0 was Forza 5, CS2 on low ond fortnite medium they performed within margin of error.
6500XT + 5600 ran at 250FPS average in CS2 low (1080p no upscaling) on a B350 MoBo and edged out the A750, because that card really needs 1440p to stretch it's legs.
Forza 5 DOES have some quirks, doesn't it. Interesting to see how close all of these are with the 3600 and 5600.
AMD 6000 series cards still offering amazing price to performance...I'm rocking with an XFX RX 6750 XT, got it for £300, really strong card.
I actually just took the RTX2070 from my travel PC and put a 6600XT in it, They are very underrated. Hoping to lay my hands on a 7900GRE for testing soon.
I wouldn't rule out PCIe 3 with Rebar yet, AMD B450 / x470 chipset with a Ryzen 5 3600 or better can run Rebar or Sam on PCIe 3, Intel may not be able to run it, but AMD can.
I do have an X470/3600 setup I'm starting tests in with both cards to compare.
@@ThatPaulGuy I use to run my RTX 3070 on an early MSI x470 Gaming Plus with a 3700x, I had both Sam and Rebar on PCIe 3 and later flashed it for 5700x, and Rebar was still there, the 3600 will never be as fast as my 5700x on the same board and what you get it not the end result with the 5700x 3D being an option for PCIe 3.
Also, Intel is very fast in Vulkan th-cam.com/video/dQEOwzMkakY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nEN1SQX7YfKL2h96
Already done it and ReBar helps a lot mitigating the PCIE 3.0 issue in both CS2 & Fortnite, but there is still something going on in Forza 5.
I have a 5600g that im thinking of using for a home server/htpc. I know AMD doesnt have the best transcoders so im thinking about paiting it with an Intel or Nvidia card. Im curious if this can do some decent emulation as i would like to have some wii and switch games in the mix.
I haven't tried to use the 5600g in a server, I'm just running a NAS, but you may not end up needing a separate video card with that CPU especially for emulating some older technologies. That being said, the encoding capability of this card was very surprising, keeping up with the Arc A750 that I use for editing my YT videos. Quite honestly, for the price, its very hard to beat.
@@ThatPaulGuy I'm also looking at running it for Plex and jellyfin as well. That would be my main reason for adding a GPU.
thank you so much, now i will save to buy the a380 thought i dont have any pci-e 4 but i do have re-bar so i think it should be no problem at all. i think i need to upgrade my ryzen 3 3200g, it could make a little bottleneck
I'll be testing this GPU with mid tier Ryzens soon. Hoping for good results.
@@ThatPaulGuy thank u so much, i hope it doesnt give you any headache
How about testing the newer ARC drivers with better DX11 support? Please list the drivers you use in your graphs.
For the AMD I was using 24.1.1 I believe and the Arc is running on 31.0.101.5445 . I always try to test with latest drivers and use DDU in between to remove the old drivers. I should make a note to say that more often, thank you.
@@ThatPaulGuy Just put the driver version in the graphs you make, so you can reference them in the future.
good stuff! v:
Thank you.
To be fair... the RX 6400 still has issues in a Gen4 slot. The Gen3 slot is just compounding the shortcomings of the design.
Most definitely. The 6400s only true redeemly quality seems to be that is low profile and single slot.
so paul, as i was saying on twitch, that aria guy, i think he may be a bit scammy...... every stream he's been in he's tried to offer his services to you to upgrade your channel.... this seems a bit odd to me... just be careful dude.....
What if your not interested in Gaming or Video Encoding, but would like to punch up some AI usage, like resizing photos with Topaz Photo AI. I keep hearing that getting a GPU makes much more difference than doubling your CPU power... ?
In terms of raw power a GPUs job is to crunch numbers and do math very quickly, (part of the reason for their high usage with crypto). GPUs are getting even more complex now, though, with future generations having AI processors built in. I have to imagine some of those will have a major impact on photo editing and asset creation.
I am rooting for Intel, words I never thought i would say , haha!! More competition is always good for the consumer. As NVidia has abandoned budget gpu's and AMD is not competing in the budget cpu space, Intel is becoming the bang for the buck leader. An i3-12100f and an A380 is not a bad starting point for a budget system!!!
I agree. Both Nvidia and AMD are both trying to continue giving us the next big thing and charging exorbitant prices, while Intel has set very reasonable prices for the products on the lower performance tiers, making them perfect for someone on a budget to start with new parts.
I have strange intent to order now A380 LP now
Its a better card than I thought it'd be, especially for the price.
@@ThatPaulGuy yes it definitely deserves a chance i will do some testing when i get hands on it 👍
Why we have GTX 1660 on Forza Horizon's slide?
I missed changing the label for that slide. Thank you for the catch. I've also noted it in the description.
splinter cell and gta 4 performance is better on nvidia old games i mean games before 2010 i mean not every single game dont works in 4k other than nvidia
Nvidia cards definitely seem to handle DX9 and DX11 titles better.
Hi Paul.
Hello.
if you extra money and a extra pc buy intel arc other wise dont install in your only pc buy nvidia then dx9 games are more optimised for nvidia
if you really like games before dx11 era dont buy anything other than nvidia
The GTX 1650 and 1660 end up being great choices in this use case.
@@ThatPaulGuy I been testing DX 10 with Intel A770 th-cam.com/video/AuaiPrGvywQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KHR8AK1Oyv2LSYqH
