Born and raised in a Muslim country, I grew up thinking that only Muslims fast. I never heard any Christian nor Adventist in my life that practice fasting. I read that Jesus fasted, and how whole nations fasted. But never saw it in practice. Only after watching online sermons do I understand about fasting. One thing I see is how my Muslim classmates sometimes fast during exams, in hopes to get clarity of mind. And they are usually the top students of the school. I believe God blesses them. They have the temperance & self-control. How sad it was for me to realize how much blessing we were missing for not fasting. But on the bright side it's never too late.
The following day after I heard this message I shared to our diabetic patient who seems to constantly graze on food about the story of the person who fasted for 382 days that Pastor Doug mentioned. Our diabetic patient and me read about Angus Barbieri’s remarkable lost of weight and the drastic method she did to achieve her ideal weight. I think that Angus desire for a healthy weight did not go in vain, I saw that our patient finally sent her stack of snacks to her husband and decided that she will just eat the food that the hospital will serve her and told me that she will try to loose some weight to keep her sugar on healthy level and make herself healthy. I believe I heard this sermon so that I too can share to others about the importance of prayer and fasting.
I fasted once many years ago on orange and lemon juice. Very hard for me. Not a Christian then. It would still be hard now at almost 87. I am thin but i do love good food. Which i fix. Healthy for the most part. This would be a challenge for me. Really enjoy Pastor Doug's sermons
I was born Adventist but I didn't know about fasting and prayer🙊 I just knew one of my adventist teacher did fasting wayback high school but I didn't know about fasting and praying. I did fasting but it's all about health benefits. To get a lean body🤭 but when I discovered pastor doug TH-cam channel 6 months ago if I'm not mistaken. I have been watching everyday and learn a lot about everything. And this series is my favorite🙏 fasting and prayer 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️ thanks you very much 🙏
I was feeling very unhealthy because of my eating habits and about 3 months ago I realized that my body needed to stop eating. So, I did. For 7 days. No food at all and only water. It is mostly a mental game. Your mind starts playing games with you. Not weird games, but you start wondering if you are going to die. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't that hungry after about day 3. Occasional minor hunger pain that left within a couple of minutes and would not return for hours. I could have went longer but I started wondering if I was being unhealthy, since I had never fasted like this before. So, I began to slowly add food over about 2 days - starting with a little fruit, mostly berries. Then I transitioned to home made soup. Healthy, vegan soup. What happened to me is that I realized that food was controlling me. Secondly, I did have spiritual benefits. Many in fact. It is clear to me now that food comes between all Christians and God. If you are snacking all the time (Like I was) and if you are planning a lot of your day around food, then you can rest assured - you have a food problem. I have to be honest - and I was honest with God. I was doing this for health, and not for spiritual reasons - but I also asked God to help me spiritually at this time as well. Food addiction went away during this period. My Spiritual condition was easier to recognize. Since that 7 day fast, I have fasted 3 more times. twice for a day and a half, and once for 48 hours. I will be doing another fast soon, but this will be for God. Fasting - real fasting - should be a normal part of the Christian life.
I have heard far too many Christians announcing that they are on a fast. It seems boastful the way they keep talking about it and I am ashamed for them. I have been keeping a journal as my list. I write down prayer requests to remind me to pray....sometimes I hear back from people about how those prayers were answered and I write in how the prayers were answered. It is a good way to lift up my spirits and the spirits of others to read back over these answered prayers. I think it is a good testimony to others. I get so many requests that I have to write them down or I won’t remember when I go out to our prayer chain and text or email.
Pastor Doug you left out the most important part of the story where Jesus' disciples asked Jesus why they could not cast out the demons and that was Jesus told them because of your unbelief.
Really that is a bunch of complete nonsense, everyone calls a prophetic cult and that we are evil demon...yet we try and spread the truth and positivity, yes we say know that the Roman Catholic changed the sabbath day, THEY EVEN ANNOUNCED themselves, we pray to God and Jesus Christ, not Mary as the roman catholic believe, she did nothing but bare God's son on Earth...Jesus was sent to DIE and the Catholic believers say "Forget Jesus and his doing, praise Mary, as she bore Jesus that's more than dying for people that keep sining, psshh who cares" Rather stop saying we are bad people when we worship the true Trinity, God; Jesus and the Holy spirit, yes we dont eat pork and other food, because God commanded that we do not eat from those filthy animals, that eat dead things and rotten foods and eat one another, and yes our sabbath day is on Saturday, because that was the day God gave us, not man, so please that article is complete nonsense if you have a problem with our way of things dont research us dont say we're worshiping a false prophetic god, really, and lastly we dont indulge ourselves in the business of your religon except help everyone outside the seventh day adventist religon, and by the way a cult- is sacrificial meaning we sacrifice something or someone, which we dont we are peaceful people that want to learn more about the Lord and how to get into Heaven

No worries though, I got the big picture! 😂🙂😊
Amen!

Fast after the holidays. Always a skinny man knows how not to be so.

Behind a good sermon the devil is always ready to attack, kill and destroy. Enjoy the blessings from it. Start fasting and praying.
