I own a set of these and oddly enough last night I threw them for the first time in months. I've thought of stripping the paint off of them but was concerned how it would effect the grip, which I love. Was happy today see this review and my question answered 🙂 I couldn't agree more this is a great set of darts for almost any players and available a great price too.
I definitely agree about switching up stems and flights. I recently switched to l style stems and flights and some darts that I was using before that were going in all directions now fly straight. I also switched up the length from short to intermediate which made a big difference.
I got the XQMax, MVG absolute, and the MVG authentic. Out of them all I find myself using the Authentics most of the time. Thank you for revisiting the mckicks, I’ve almost bought these a few times.
MAN! Totally on point with the flights. I've gone through a few different barrels (thanks to you lol) and playing around with what works for me. But once I started moving around shafts/flights alongside the barrel, it's made the dart a whole different set up. Keep em coming.
I think I have a set of the Gen 2’s. This dart is one of those darts that simply works very well for me. I do prefer to use short stems and pear flights rather than standard flights. My setup helps the dart go into the board very flat. I agree that everybody should have a set of these in their collection.

Got a set a week ago,took a bit of getting used to the skinny barrels but I'm throwing some solid arrows now, very happy with them 👍🏻 cheers brother ✌🏻

I know a guy who asked MvG which darts he got from his dad (he played them for 15 years) and he said they were old winmau barbarians. Now he's playing with the winmau authentic
Definitely a classic dart that will work well for many. Not enough there for my rear grip but I'd still love to have a Van Gerwen set of darts in my collection and these are probably more affordable than Winmau. Great review!
Great video. Tried these McKicks you are reviewing, didn't get on with them. Conversely tried the Mvg Exacts and didn't think I would throw them that good but to my surprise I had good success with them, go figure. Cheers
@@WorldwideDarts I have no idea really, used the same size stems with a No.6 regular flight, possibly a little more forward grip with the Exacts'. Was probably a year between using the two different sets.
As a front-mid gripper i grip the dart just at the smooth part making it incredibly hard to throw for me when under high pressure and sweaty hands, really unfortunate as i absolutely love them!
Are these thicker than the mvg exact darts? I just don’t trust the dimensions they advertise on their site at all. Good video bro! - looking for a dart thats slightly thicker than the mvg exact but same grip and length
I'm pretty sure he used the new Winmau ones for a while and didn't play to well and is now back using whatever these darts are. I know he stated he'd carry on using the new ones etc but to me the ones he's throwing at present are his old ones.
He's not using the old ones. If you have a watch of that incredible leg in the final last week: th-cam.com/video/AcL6bRdbO-4/w-d-xo.html, you can quite clearly see the Winmau logo at the rear of the barrel. I've also seen pictures on Twitter of a match-used set given to a fan, and they looked just like the Winmau Exacts with the coating worn away. Just after I saw those pictures, he starting playing with a new set and they definitely looked like the Exacts.
When a board is brand new I rotate it the most. I want it to break in evenly. So depending on how much I play I'll rotate once a week minimum. If I'm practicing a lot I'll rotate a couple times a week. The main goal is to keep ALL segments looking the same for the entire life of the board. If one segment looks worse than another... you're not rotating enough

I just bought these but the points are far too long for the way I grip my darts. I'm sure every other set of darts iv bought the points were way shorter.

Yeah, I bought some of these about 2014, and threw very nicely with them. About 2016 McKicks changed the shape of the nose... Wonder why 🙄 MvG will never be able to state that he uses them, due sponsorship/contracts etc. Interestingly, the Winmau version look absolutely nothing like what's he's been throwing for all these years.
It’s funny that they have the name “Mighty Grip” 😂 and the grip is only average. I think it is important that you mention that the barrels may be great for you, but the shafts and flights may not work with your throw. With this being said, what are the longest shafts that you know of?
i am searching for the gen1 for so long now its frustrating. I threw them once and they felt perfect but it was from a random guy at a tournament. Anyone has an idea where i can get my hands on a McKicks Mighty Grip Gen1?

I threw an 180 a week after I bought the authentic! Great darts but they could be a bit grippier

I had a set of the 21 gram McKicks Mighty Grip Premium Whites. It had a spread of 0.8 grams between the lightest and heaviest barrel.
That's not terrible. As long as they're within 1/10th of a gram it's a pass 👍🏻

An oldie but a goody set of darts
Of all the MVG darts, I like the cheap XQMax World Champion Originals best. Most affordable version now at about $30.
Just bought the MvG Exact darts, hope they will suit me well. The grip is similar to these, the coating looks fantastic!

WWD how often do you rotate your board? how many throws do you think a board should take before rotating it?

Luke Humphries plays with the longest shafts in the PDC. I have no idea where he gets them but I think they're around 60mm
