The actual art that has effort is going to take TIME! We have AT LEAST a few years before we get something good because artists who want to do something creative with it aren't going to rush it and will actually want to take their time to make sure whatever art they create is going to be good! That being said, PLEASE take your time with this. I'd rather you pace yourself and not burn yourself out and put out something of a quality you're satisfied with.

Reminds me of Epic Mickey plot-wise, and I do think The Rat is perfect here. It’s the most true to self thing being produced with the public domain. The whole Gloves situation was way overblown because even before 2024 a later Mickey cartoon called "The Mad Doctor" had already become public domain and used a version of Mickey with gloves. A lot of sprites in this game are taken from that cartoon, including the running sprite that's shown in the trailer.

This game gives me huge Epic Mickey 1 vibes, and from what I’ve seen so far this project really looks like it’s gonna be something special. Pairing Mickey with Bimbo of all characters is really interesting as well given the real life history of the characters and the rivalry between their studios. Needless to say, I’ll definitely be watching this project closely and eagerly awaiting a demo if planned.
Considering that this game uses collage in it's artstyle... that's transformative enough, even without public domain it would fall into fair share, I think?

i can care less if something has a horror movie spin or not, specially since it makes sense to exist ever since Mascot Horror became a genre of its own, with its own tropes and ideas. saying it again, derivative arts are GOOD THING to exist, someone had an idea and put their time into making the thing exist, and it probably had the time taken to make it exist in anticipation of the thing entering the public domain. i celebrate that these arts exists in the first place, the genre doesn't matter.

Beyond the game, this is a really well-made trailer. Yes, it emphasizes a clear message / concept as to what the game's core appeal is, especially at the end, but it also really cleverly teases the visual aesthetic and story of this world which we will hopefully see in full in the final game.

very excited for this to come out, the public domain is an amazing tool for artists to draw upon and is a representation of how art is actually made. Art is an iterative process that calls upon other peoples works, and allowing corperations (not artists, mind you) to own and mass produce an artistic idea is against this very fundimental. I love the Strange L.A Noir tones the game has including the use of Copy-pasted cut out letters (which was a classic trope of detective films) it really brings me back to watching the TV at grandma & Grandpa's & the twilight zone clicks on. Overall im super amped for this game! Cant wait to play

Part of me hopes this game gets updated/ect. every year as time passes, to add in new content that enters the PD. And that as such also helps a lot of the areas and places we go to get more nice-looking as exponentially more movies, films, cartoons, ect. become available to use. And maybe even a lot more proper color as well.

Part of me hopes this game gets updated/ect. every year as time passes, to add in new content that enters the PD. And that as such also helps a lot of the areas and places we go to get more nice-looking as exponentially more movies, films, cartoons, ect. become available to use. And maybe even a lot more proper color as well.

Bimbo has been in a number of cartoons that are public domain which is where these sprites are taken from.
