    Dayang Dayang, an often mistaken Malaysian or Indonesian song, is an original Filipino song composed and sung by a mysterious singer "Hainun Pangilan" from the southernmost province of the Philippines, Tawi Tawi. It is danced through the movement of the hips to mimic the movement of a butterfly (called Pakiring Dance).
    This song has been part of the everyday Filipinos' lives, especially in birthday parties, fiestas, nightclubs, discos, among others.
    Note: The music used in the video is only a "cover" of the original version. CTTO

    This is the traditional way of dancing Dayang2. I always remember my aunt used to play this music and had me dance along with my muslim friends in our province... Miss those days! Kudos to the dancer

    I'm Tagalog and I love the Tagalog culture, but I don't see why we can't incorporate all Southern culture into it. I love the South! My family even has a collection of malongs! In fact, there is that one guy in my family who plays the kulintang for us!

    • @GaryHField
      @GaryHField 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From what Tagalog culture are you? Tagalogs are also very diverse, culturally speaking. Like a Novo Ecijano has a very different culture and tradition from a Caviteño.

    • @ricachona4095
      @ricachona4095 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@GaryHField What she's saying is that in general, only the Luzon culture is being showcased overseas. And that goes from songs to dances to cuisines. I love Luzon food, don't get me wrong but there are many more cuisines from the south that are worthy of being showcased overseas. Example, beef kulma, tiula itum, satti, etc...Foreign countries think that our food is very generic and bland compared to our Asian counterparts. They don't realise that we have spicy foods from the south that can compete with the Thais and Malays. Whenever they ask if we have hot or spicy food, the answer is always bicol express. That's not even that spicy.....The same goes with the dances. Everyone knows about tinikling, sayaw sa bangko, cariñosa, etc... But have they seen dayang-dayang from Jolo or malong-malong from Basilan? Or maybe Zamboanguita o No te vayas de Zamboanga? How about singkil or war dance from Sulu and Maguindanao?

    I don't know about the music, but the dancing is more authentic than any other I've seen. I witnessed the same traditional interpretation at the home of my classmate Eric Amilbangsa near Remedios Cricle in the late 1950s. He is the son of Datu Ombra Amilbangsa, the governor of Sulu at the time. It makes me weep to think that this regal interpretation may be vanishing.

Every Mindanaoan dance has its historical story and mostly its the story of First degree Princesses, daughters of sultan, Princess Warrior, like Princess Dayang, who fought for freedom from slavery... SO YOU CAN NEVER EXPECT SMILES...That’s how the story tells as one dances it. Cheers
