With Turner I find it interesting that rarely someone mentioned his interest in experiments and new colours. His painting look like they look because for example many colors completely disappeared over time. Same with his watercolors, even during his lifetime buyers complained that they changed already. Same with Rothko btw, the paintings now are completely different then they used to be. Sometimes that explains why its difficult to figure out how the colors were made :-)

The Tate Watercolour Manual and Turner's Apprentice (books) will give many more details than a 5 minute video but this is informative too.

I think Turner didn't use as much water and used more of a gouache opaque water based pigments. This is why no one on youtube seems to be able to even come close to getting the look.

Surprised by the negative and rather harsh, personalized comments. How about some alizarin crimson kindness or soothing sienna to calm the judge mental notes?

I would like to see a video about your equipment. I like the set up you had for a quick sketch with your watercolor see attached on top and water was connected to the right. How did you set your watercolours up there? You appeared to be using a small clip board.

😒 If there was no sunset at all on that day, there'd be much more drastic problems than putting the hairy end of a brush to paper. Lol 😏

Absolutely no idea. No sense of atmosphere. No mystique; pure construction, and poor at that. People invoking Turner's name then promoting utter ignorance in application do a great deal of damage, but are too ignorant to know they are. It's just wrong.

I agree, his pompous, twatty voice drove me up the wall and his understanding of Turner much less than he thinks

Its obvious you haven't seen many Turner watercolors (or understand his purpose in doing them) or actually paint with them yourself.

it literally is a whole series of him having exclusive access to the tate's extensive collection of Turners watercolors, so to say "you haven't seen many".. he's clearly seen more and more frequently than you will ever see in your entire lifetime. Douche!

also he's extremely knowledgeable, not a lot of people would know that the sun in the scarlet sunset was applied with essentially chrome yellow gouache.

haha, are you trying to respond to Mike Chaplin? Cause obviously he saw many many many Turner watercolours :-)
