@utilizewindows no worries . not sure what is going on with my comp. was loading black screen with a blinking underscore som i formatted and now cnat get on the net. i was pretty sure last time i did this the computer went on the n et and did almost everything by itself..

@dragganforce Hm, well when you have drivers for your network card on a CD everything else gets much easier in a case when OS does not install drivers during installation. I don't know why your OS did not find drivers right away (maybe different OS or different network card...).

When computer boots and cannot cannot contact DHCP server, it automatically takes the ip address assigned statically. What if the address we assigned is already configured to other user. How will we know whether the ip address is already assigned or not ?
