    dude thank you so much for making this video. I've been so bored with life rn bc I didn't know schools like this existed but ig now I know where im going. ive always wanted to do stunt like being set on fire and stuff like that and me and my friends always do mock stunt scenes at gymnastics practice when the coaches aren't there its super fun.

    My oldest nephew, Jamari said that he wanted to be a stuntman. He told me if he wanted to be a stuntman for film and television he have to be a background extra in order for him to begin his stunt work. Jamari had an interest in being Hollywood stuntman. What do they mean by SAG-AFTRA?

    Paul thanks for the video. Would you recommend doing work as an extra on set to get extras vouchers to make me eligible to join SAG? Or just go meet other stuntmen on set and maybe tell them i want to be a stuntman and meet some stunt coordinators and give them my resume/reel. I just got out of the marine corps this past year and i am no where near finishing college. I'd like to go to stunt school in LA and do full time stunt training and extras work in order to get my foot in the door. Do you think thats a good route to take if i dont really want to finish college right now and just get my ass into being a stuntman? My job as a marine was infantry rifleman so i have extreme skills in weaponry and i have an array of other talents/skills. I feel like a stunt coordinator cant turn me down if i have a legit reel and they could use someone that knows how to use weapons.

    • @pauljdarnell
      @pauljdarnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As a former Marine, you have some great options. You can do specialty background work for productions that need people with military training. The extra work you do will able you to get your vouchers to become SAG eligible. Extra work also helps you get familiar with how productions work and "set etiquette". Your knowledge of weapons is definitely going to be your key in.

    What kind of jobs did you have on the side when you werent stunting? Thats my main problem right now is how to sustain myself and my skills while im not stunting

    • @pauljdarnell
      @pauljdarnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      excellent question. surviving between jobs can be stressful and its nice to have a flexible job that gives you some monetary comfortable and the flexibility to take off for stunt work. In the past, I have been a pilates instructor, gymnastics coach, personal trainer, parkour coach.

      Paul Darnell thanks for the advice paul but is a "full time stuntman" a thing? Or do you just get well known and recommended as you get job after job?

    • @pauljdarnell
      @pauljdarnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, full-time stuntman is a thing. Some stunt players go from show to show to show.

  • @thekripkrons22
    @thekripkrons22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Paul, if i go to stunt school, move to la, and start training at the gyms where all the stuntmen are, what else could i do to help me get my first job as a stuntman? I'm also going to try to be an extra this summer so i can get the vouchers and pay the fee to get into SAG. Should i start applying for jobs online after all this to help?

    • @pauljdarnell
      @pauljdarnell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's pretty much it. The only other thing would be to sign up with LA Casting or look into getting a commercial agent to send you to auditions. Do a google search for commercial agents in LA and try to set up some interviews. Good luck, you got this!

    • @jordanholcomb525
      @jordanholcomb525 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You dont need a degree of any kind the only reason he told him to go to college is incase the stuntman thing doesnt pay the bills

    Some real tips, for future watchers. There's only 20 ish stuntman who actually made it. In the entire world(Yet America is the only ones to make actually movies) Most people will never make it, I'm most likely one of them. Try your hardest, prove your worth. If you can't. stop. Give up. Honestly.
