to bring so much emotion into a song without the use of words is inspiring.dylan carlson has truly taken the core of true music, stripped it down and built it back up. no band has ever truly brought out emotion in me through their music quite like earth.
I feel that with a song like this and a band like Earth, you just either get IT or you don't. I find this composition to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard, but when I play it for my father he finds it depressing and melancholy. Certainly, you can justify those feelings, but they just dont resonate with me. I find this music to be just perfect. I had the pleasure of seeing Earth in Barcelona, dead smack front row about a foot away from Dylan on some pretty heady cid. Amazing.
As I headed towards the stairs, that song started on the radio and it was the first time I had heard it. I just stood there and was so compelled to finish listening to it that I ended up staring at the wall like a zombie for the entire song. By the time the song was over I snapped out of it and realized I had forgotten all about the phone call...
Well, I like a lot Current 93, Death in June, Toe, Fine Before You Came, The Body, Liturgy, dISEMBOWELEMENT, Worm Ouroboros, Cloudkicker, Nature And Organization, Hijokaidan, Owen Pallett aka Final Fantasy, Nautilus Pompilius, Cynic, Godkiller, This Will Destroy You, God Is An Astronaut, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, O Paon, and some random shit. It's a lots of bands and genres, but hope you want to dig in some of them: they're all great.
I listen to loads of other music, I will throw names out there and maybe you'll like em. Beck, Boards of Canada, Holy Fuck, Amon Tobin, Burial, OTT, Shpongle, Skytree, Hawkwind, Buckethead, King Crimson, Tommy Gurrero, Phutureprimitive, Bluetech, Ozric Tentacles, Porcupine Tree, Eastern Sun, Dave Tipper, Papadosio, Flying Lotus, Indigolab....I could keep going, but i would be surprised if anyone really looks all those up... They're all good musicians though!
@Symiathine I put this song in my bar today. Its holiday but i had to prepare things. It's a spanish sidrería, search for ''escanciar sidra'' in youtube. It looks hard. I've been doing it for 20 years. Sometimes I miss shots or dont get the better ''escanciamiento'', but while listening to this, i think i have broke a world record. Like 2L sidra put on 18 glasses. I never did more than 10.
Symiathine :) I found you're description "Imagine a guy with his head cocked to the side staring off into a wall like he was going to become one with it " not only one of the funniest comments I've read on youtube but one that happened to me once. Of course, I was only 8 and the song wasn't by The Swans.. it was Hotel California by the Eagles. I had answered the phone and some adult asked me to put my parent on the phone..
Cool, glad I can spread some good tunes! :) Here are a few more artists. The first grouping leans towards electronic/chill music, the next grouping is more rock/energetic stuff - [Jet Black Crayon, Desert Dwellers, Cualli, Emancipator, Kaminanda, Bonobo, DJ Shadow, Zeph and Azeem, Ancient Astronauts] [Primus, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, Greg Howe (look up the "Gentle Hearts Tour", Kan'Nal, Gogol Bordello]
Wow youre lucky!!I intend to see Earth if they play my hometown in the future; I'm from Liverpool in England; theyve played Manchester, which isnt too far from here, but I missed them:( Defo catch them next time. They are meant to be incredible live, as youve attested to.:) Is Dylan Carlson small? He looks quite a big guy, but a few of his interviews state hes "small in stature"?
HELL yeah. i just got DARK TOWER 7......now im 27...so i have kids and cant make the time ot finish the damn series.....but this music does fit it quite well.
King is for sure the KING my favorite part in all these books is when Roland acctually meets King in the story (book 6)......so in reailty King wrote himself into a book that he is claiming he wrote in the story....kinda gives me a visual like pointing a video camera at a tv while its plugged into the same tv. but im wondering why there is no singer for this band EARTH......no screamer.....no fast paced like disturbed but they need someone CREEPY HEAVY and SLOW. kinda like TYPE o NEGATIVE.....
My ears say it's Db minor pentatonic (Db, E, Gb, Ab, B) if you want to improvise along to this - it's appropriate since it was improvised too when it was recorded.
Let the music do the talking, their guitars, why let the sounds of a human landscape get in the way, this painting doesn't need a human's emotion to validate it, though theres stuff goin on there for sure :) all you need...
yep, that is pretty weak ,going around TRYING to instigate fights with people that have more self-control and intellect. Or just some young kid who just throws their weight around to 'prove themselves'. In some way or another I feel we have all been there when young and naive to the ways of the world. The people that care about being 'cool' are the wrong people to 'impress' with that racket. Go live in the world without the shelter of anonymity THEN try that shtick and see what happens.Peace.
the first riff is
astonishing
my mind is literally blown
bye friends i am go
I discovered this while on LSD. It was the best experiene i could imagine!
This shakes my entire house. "Vibrations matter because matter vibrates."

Do go on please, just went through them all and found some amazing new artists.
Love how everything weaves around the rhythm so gracefully
I could listen to this on repeat forever.
Astra (prog), My Brother the Wind (improv. psych), Beardfish (prog), Elder (doom), Earthless (jam psych), The Egocentrics (jam psych), Gru (prog metal), Widek (prog metal), Cloudkicker (prog metal), Mestis (prog metal), Yellow Swans (experimental electronic noise), Nadja (drone), Pelican (post metal), Lycus (funeral doom), Akron/Family (experimental rock), Oresund Space Collective (space/psych), El Doom & the Born Electric (prog), and Brutus (psych) among other things.
My fave track on this album. So mesmerising. ♥
Dat bass. :P (Sorry, I tried to resist saying it. I really did.)
Amazing,

The people who listen to this, and are messaging here... all sound like pretty chill knowledgable people... What else do you listen to?

That is EXACTLY what I'm about to do, what an amazing coincidence! Thank you for this comment, made my evening.
I witnessed mars in the light hours, twinkle off in early blue. I've been out here for hours.
You can find their stuff on Southern Lord.

Very good indeed; did Adrienne write these words? I love this latest Earth line-up; it works so well. Hypnotic and trancey, beautiful♥
i would love to hear Earth collab with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or someone of that level
Symiathine's comment above is one of the greatest on YT to date !

This is a different band. This has Dylan Carlson on guitar wich was the best friend of Kurt Cobain. So no.
