I've been fortunate enough to produce several upper level jumpers but could never have done that without intense mentorship by a generous hall of fame rider. Your channel is a wonderful introduction to the western disciplines for me and I thank you.
Tim always has great advice! Don't turn down the opportunity to ride a high caliber horse. I cannot afford to put my horses in a pro trainer's barn for 30 days or more. However, what I can afford is to pay a trusted pro for an evaluation ride on my horses occasionally. Yes, I haul to the trainers whenever they can fit me in. I get a game plan that way of what to work on, what's good, bad and ways to get better. When I was younger, I bartered for training rides or lessons by exchanging barn chores, grooming and riding bouncy horses.
I totally understand and agree. I haven’t ridden upper level horses but I’ve been sending my horses to a trainer that “installs” maneuvers into them then works with me on riding them. It’s a slower process I’m sure but we are making steady progress. Also I do attend different clinics with different clinicians for whatever the event is. Mostly extreme Cowboy racing which you need to have performance horse maneuvers, it’s not just obstacle execution. This weekend I took my mustang mare to a small ranch horse show and we actually won our classes. So now I’m considering getting to some clinics or classes for ranch horse showing to understand how to get those pluses. Haha. Very timely video from you!!
Way bitd I did lots of extreme cowboy races and won $$. During the early to mid 2000s they were everywhere. Love to see them make a comeback again closer to me in East Tennessee.
I have trained all my horses, and to me, they have all developed into really nice riding horses that would be able to do most things at a grass roots level. But you are right, I would love the opportunity to ride a performance horse! But it's finding someone who would be happy for an "ordinary" rider to get on their horse.😂
