Imagine having to go through all of this trouble to fix a AAA game, worst part is if you go to the forums they mock you and ignore all problems
There is a reason i consider EA/DICE and their fans as subhumans.
Just imagine how many more people would be playing, so many times I got bored of PUBG and went to give this a shot but didnt feel like spending an hour doing this B.S
I actually fixed it. I followed this video and it didn't work. When I went to windows firewall there was no PnkBuster A or B. So I figuerd ill just turn off windows defender (and turn it back on when im done with BF) even that didn't work. So I went into the folder where punkbuster is installed, opened the actual punkbuster.exe thing and installed it and it added it's own exceptions for windows defender during the installation. Now it works everytime.
But yeah I totally know what you mean. This game is approaching 7 years old and nothing really comes close which is why I now am trying to figure out how to make it work again. Bought the new Modern Warfare and didn't care for it. BF4 truly is something else.

For people still having this issue, this worked for me (in 2019):
1. Go to the install folder of BF4 (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4)
2. Run the pbsvc.exe
3. Choose "Install/Re-Install" and click next
4. Click "I Agree"
5. Wait for installation to finish and click "Next"
6. Wait for the test to finish and succeed and click "Finish"
7. Start BF4 and enjoy!

This worked and the instructions were really well explained and easy to follow. Liked and subbed.
If punkbuster isn't showing up. Go into folder Open the disk that you have Program files in, Then go to origin games folder, Then _installer, Then punkbuster and then redist. And open the punkbuster there.
Sorry if i explained a bit weirdly, But this worked for me!

in the firewall, advanced settings, select the advanced tab and select/tick all of the Domain, Private, and Public. Do this with all Punkbusters... A, B and as many as you have... Working now.

Turns out I was registered on the Pbbans list for hacking.... never hacked a day in my life. Now I'm on the list I've tried to appeal the ban but so far been a month with no answer.... make sure you check www.pbbans.com and make sure you arent registered as a cheater.

EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS 2020 THIS IS HOW YOU FIX IT
If it so happens that the 4 punkbuster programs dont show up in your firewall, on the same page as the link (www.evenbalance.com/) you can find a tab on top of the page where it says downloads. Click that tab and it should bring you to a page where the second headline down called *PunkBuster Service Installer (pbsvc)* will have a downloadable in it. Go ahead and download and run it, go through all the steps etc. and after it's done you can go back to your firewall and go through the steps as he showed! Should be fixed by then and you can now go play.

i did what is in the video but dint work, not steam stays loading the "punk buster anti-cheat step 1/1" even after testing the punkbuster and it saying it did it succesfully without error....wtf i cant even load now!

Good fix, my problem was that the Service was not showing in the list.
In that case download PunkBuster Service Installer (pbsvc) on the same website.
Installing PunkBuster Service Installer (pbsvc) fixed my problem without modifying the Firewall.
During installation, installer will check if the service is running properly and will show green OK's if OK.
Still not working for me… I have all the files in the firewall and did what you said with them but still can’t get punkbuster b to show up… I try to download the pbsetup and it fails everytime. I have the pbservice downloaded
When I download punkbuster and install it to BF4 file, it doesn't pop up in the windows firewall program. is there a step to get it to show up in the firewall?
when ever i went into my firewall settings the punkbuster thing wasnt there ?

i think you have to unistall all previous pnkb installation on your pc before installing the pnkbuster tools and adding game!
