I met a friend when I was 23 and she was 36, we have been friends for 25 years now, very good and close friends, so the Bette and Shane thing is not so unheard of.
You two are a great combo. Thanks for doing this. In my opinion, Gen Q was worth it since we have so few programs that focus on the LGBTQIA2S community. I really love the OG characters, plus Gigi/Dani and all Carrie scenes. When I rewatch, I fast forward through the other characters. I did enjoy every scene Rosie was in but preferred Carrie when she’s not with Tina. The season 3 Carrie, Finley and Misty scenes were good. It’s disappointing that the overall quality of writing was so poor, especially in season 3. They needed far more OG group scenes throughout every season. As a TiBette fan, I felt ripped off with so little screen time. The wedding episode was ridiculous given that the 2 people getting married were barely seen and the episode was so chopped up. Did we really need to see Sophie, Pippa & the cow scene when we could’ve had more TiBette. The director’s cut was likely so much better. The original LWord was on a different level so Gen Q pales in comparison but better than nothing. P.S. Leisha deserves her own comedy show.
I loved the scene where Tina buys the artwork that Bette puts in the auction. I also loved when Carrie stands up to Finlay's Mum at thanksgiving. And I cried like a baby when Dana came back for the musical episode.
Loved this video thanks to you and Jess for recording it! My highlight was for sure when Bette and Tina kissed for the first time in S3E1 since I didn’t expect it to happen in the first episode… it was sooo emotional for me… AND of course when Laurel returned in S1! But lots of great scenes, especially of Bette and Tina 🤷🏼♀️❤️😍
🙏💝⚡~ Thank You, Ash and Jess!~ Tho I wish this video could have been longer, with maybe your 20 favorite scenes from GenQ?~ I agree with many of your assessments, but I'm a little sad, because Bette and Tina's engagement and handwritten wedding vows are what some of us were watching GenQ for~ (along with the favorite scenes you listed!)~ and we have to wonder, what happened to that whole hour of cut footage from the Wedding of the Century?~ 😔🌟 It's like a major injustice that won't go away, until it's resolved...And for me personally, it was hard to keep watching all the women go from one hookup or relationship, to another one, all the quick breakups and brief careless flings~ which is why many of us held so much hope and faith, for Bette and Tina's historic and hard-won Love bond~ We have needed a series that shows a little more home-life and commitment, like with TiBette and Angie!~ 💍💖💍 I'm sorry, I knew I would get too emotional commenting on this~ but Thank You again...🙏☮️💞🔥
The LWord was definitely worth rebooting, IMO, but it did not live up to my expectations. Maybe because I'm older, but, the young ones following the plot lines of the orginal show, eg. the pregnancy, did not live up to the original. Through every episode of those two trying to make up their minds to have a baby or not, I could hear Bette and Tina saying, stop the BS and get on with it! The OGs were the best part of GenQ and that defeats the whole purpose of having them taking the forefront. Go back to Ilene and team writing what we loved and have the new generation pop in once-in-a-while
Ash, you and Jess are a riot! I agree with your choices on best scenes. The one where Tina told Bette that she had gotten engaged really gutted me. It was so very well done. You could see and feel the pain coming from Bette and obvious discomfort coming from Tina. Was GenQ worth it? Next to nothing at all, I suppose so. It was great seeing the OGs again (although a couple more would’ve been even better, at least as guest stars). I was very excited to meet the new characters, but by the end of S2 I was already beginning to tire of them. The lack of character development & story arc hurt them so much. Then the show became a repetition of the same themes, to the point of being downright annoying. In S3 the only good thing was Bette & Tina’s reunion, engagement & wedding - and they managed to throw cold water over that by rushing through it and barely giving them any screen time. They were relegated to an afterthought at their own wedding whilst strangers and barely familiar acquaintances did drugs and got sloppy drunk. I’m afraid the botched wedding is going to be what GenQ is remembered for, especially if there is no S4. I’ve said this before (and it may be an unpopular opinion) that it seems the LWord brand was hijacked to promote everything but WLW content. I don’t mean anyone any disrespect, it’s just an observation. If this is the chosen content, then I believe that there should be a new show that doesn’t include “LWord” in the title. Perhaps then, someday, somehow, a new LWord project can be launched and run by someone who has actually watched the OG. This should be requisite for the writing staff as well.
Finally got time to catch up and watch this. Loved it so much! You two are agreat duo. Agreed with so many of your opinions. This was awesome. Definitely think it was worth a reboot. It had its highs and lows for sure.
Nat, Alice, and Gigi were REALLY a moment. I wished that would’ve lasted longer because I genuinely feel like so much of it’s direction was out of character. I could’ve done without GiGi and Bette to be QUITE HONEST. Throuple to Dani and Gigi just made more sense to me flow wise.
@@AshSilver You’re so welcome! Moving to NYC this summer and manifesting I bump into Jess 🥹 You just need to visit NYC next and maybe I can bump into you too! x

Thank you Ash and Jess for the show. It was fun. Was it worth rebooting TLW? It was great to see Alice, Shane, Tina and Bette, to see their stories told a little further. I think it's a pity that the rest was so poorly told and constructed. The cast was too large and no story had a chance to connect emotionally with the viewers. Too bad it would have been possible. In the end it was worth watching GenQ to see how good the OG was (even season 6 😉) and how much a series like this is still needed. So I hope that Ilene and all the old/new performers - who want and are aware of the (political) importance - come back and create something new. good stories about lesbian women of all ages and levels. I missed the political storylines/hidden agenda. It's not just about making out, it's about love and visibility and that's more important than ever. there are still not enough good examples. if you grow up with the fact that the queer character in a series only ever finds a supporting role or a tragic end, how do you find a positive self-image. It is so important that as many people as possible see that it is possible to lead a wonderfully fulfilling life as a lesbian woman or as a couple. It's still important to have more positive role models for all queers, showing that queer people can have fulfilling lives too, with family, friends, and happy relationships. The Original Series created a smooth-running yet life-changing machine that powerfully carried the message around the world! - This is the time to say loud and clear that we are here! So I hope they let them come back and start a visible revolution again!
One of my fav videos of yours Ash. You and Jess captured the essence of the best as well as continuing the ‘why would or wouldn’t they’ questions. Maybe you could still do the worse - most cringeworthy- because while there were many there were some absolute standouts. Thanks again loved watching, love your work and all you do for this community. BTW I was amazed at the stats re the Gigi love scenes - and confirms the greatest why - why did she go!
Gigi & Dani were the only reason why I thought the show was worth watching. After Dani broke up with Gigi I was very disappointed in the way Sepideh was written off the show. I would like to know what happened between Jennifer Beals & Sepideh Moafi. In a post I read it said that Jennifer had "creative differences" with Sepideh & that's the reason Sepideh left Gen q. The bus driver should have given Gigi a sh*t ton of money to stay if the "creative differences" couldn't have been worked out between JB & SM. If in fact that was the issue, I don't know why they let Gigi go because she was a gold mine for the show. If there is a S4, I have no desire to watch it unless Sepideh Moafi comes back. Waiting 6 episodes to see if Gigi would return without any mention of her name until the last few minutes of episode 10, then only to hear that Nat & Gigi were engaged was IMO a ploy by the bus driver to give Gigi fans a drop of hope that she might return so we would continue to watch the show! That was even more disappointing!
Hahaha "how did the person who wrote this scene also wrote all the Micah shit!?" So right. I think it kinda was worth it overall. I think writers didn't want to like go back to the OG interaction and all that bc this was supposed to be a "different" and fresh show, so when they saw that the fan base was all interested on Bette and Tina and all the OG's everything went down hill. I love the OG since day one but this had a few entertaining moments and the very forced wedding that we all needed.
I appreciate this video so much! There were so many good moments on this series and I was so happy to see the show come back. I felt like we were bashing it more then enjoying it being back on air. Here's to hopefully a 4th season. The show means so much to so many!
I’m going to say I loved all the Dani scenes from season 2 and I’m still wondering how they managed to make us all go from loving her to hating her. And as much as I like Adrienne Mandi and think she’s a great actress I wish she would have left with Gigi somehow.
Great video, and the scene choices by both of you were on point. GEN Q was worth it bc there is so little content out there for the community to begin with. The OGs help some with the transition to the new gen of watchers and followers. Still doesn't touch the original in the writing and acting categories. 🙏🏽💞💞💞
I like how season 1 of Gen Q was actually kinda good, just bc of the OGs obviously. But the scenes you guys chose are my favorite scenes as well. 100 % agree with both of you.
Hey Ash and Jess, I loved this video! I agree with you both that there were parts of Gen Q season 1 & 2 that were well written. We may have not liked the storylines but some scenes were really good. Season three and the new writers were horrendous even though we got our Bette and Tina happy ending. @JessRothschild let’s do a Bette’s hair video from the original series until the Gen Q end. We could have some kind of scale, 1-10 stars ⭐️ on her hairstyles through the years. Bette’s hair is iconic! Well done girls! You two work really well together! Yes Gen Q was worth it although very painful at times to watch.
Enjoy you two tremendously. Being a true die hard Jennifer Beals fan, any times she’s on screen it’s worth it! However,’the writing in S3 left a lot to be desired, a lot🙉🙊🙈
It was worth it to have a show that I looked forward to watching. Did it live up to my excitement and affection not always but it was still good to have those feelings. I would think about our community as a collective waiting for the next episode like a shared experience around the world. Sounds a bit dramatic but I couldn’t wait to discuss the episodes with friends and online . Even people who I’m not in contact with anymore I would imagine what their reactions were , because the OG was so important to us when we were baby gays ❤❤
Great video and you both made a lot of great choices I completely agree with you both that GiBette could and should have been a deeper storyline. I could ramble endlessly about this to be honest 😂 in S1 they basically had the same emotional arc of refusing to move on as each other albeit Bette’s was obviously focussed on more. There was endless potential to explore things with that pairing especially with how much they have in common and how much they can relate to each other on. We mostly focus on how hot they were together but there was so much potential there that could have been about more than just sex. I know some TiBetters and Pibetters will probably violently disagree with me here but if they had really wanted to create a new Bette ship for people to actually get behind GiBette was THE opportunity. Like that was it. But we aren’t allowed to have nice things 😂😭 As someone who watches this show like 90% for Bette Porter and the other 10% being the OG scenes then for me I feel it was worth it. There was actually a lot in there as a Bette stan I enjoyed and a lot that came SO CLOSE to creating genuinely good complex storylines - I loved Bette/Dani’s dynamic. The GiBette stuff, I also enjoyed PiBette with what we got and the Bette’s Mom stuff that I will be sore about forever because of the way they could have explored Bette’s major abandonment issues and just all the potential that was literally right sat in front of them that they just let slip by. It’s a shame, there was crazy potential for this show that even if there is another season I just don’t think will ever be reached. What a shame and a missed opportunity . Unfortunately I think S3 just trampled over all potential for the show. I just don’t know what they could even do with a S4 even though I’ll definitely be here for it Also I am always ready to flip a table that they had the audacity to not even mention Kit at the wedding 😱like that should have been an essential moment especially if they were looking to close out Bette’s arc
Ash & Jess, thanks for the video. I have one question for the both of you. Do either of you have any substantial reason as to why Sepideh left the show, was it due to "creative differences" between JB & SM, because you can't get a straight answer from the bus driver. (I watched the interview with Jess & MLR)
I’ve always thought women in general have more boundless friendships than men. My friend group is crazy looking from the outside but makes so much sense if you know me better and them.
it was totally worth it! We still need a show like this, it was great to see the OG's and yes the younger character storylines could have written better, but I still overall liked it.. I don't think Bette (and tina) was so bad in season 2, she was just really showing she wants Tina back and I felt it! Carrie was better without Tina in Season 3.. and now we need a Season 4 to just have Bette en Tina be happy :-) If there is a season 4, I still hope Jennifer and Laurel appear in some episodes - Ilene didn't admit to Jennifer really leaving, so, as usual, we should be hopeful and optimistic
Ash Pippa and Bette is nothing to sleep on. Audience actually asked for the character Pippa back by popular demand. PiBette love scene got 1. 5 million views. I am not gonna lieI like Tibette but I also like Pibette we got to see a new side of Bette a more venerable side. I enjoyed PiBette it was refreshing and new.
Was Gen Q worth it? Hmmm In the grand scheme -- NO. But we got Gigi, an update on our OGs. Issues can be fixed going forward (given that a certain person is no longer Showrunner and better writers) ...so Yeah it was worth it, despite everything.
Ultimately I feel that the show was not worth rebooting. They cast people who can't act, paired them up as couples, and have written horrible storylines for them that make absolutely no sense. As you mentioned, one of the only good things to come out of the reboot has been Gigi, but they somehow messed that up too. I can't bare to rewatch any of the GenQ seasons for the few minutes of good content from the OG's. The show is awful. If the OG's weren't a part of it, I'm sure no one would be watching this show and it would've gotten canceled after season 1.
Agree S 1 Ep 7 is the quality I expected the best scene .... Season 1 had it except tibette was divorced. It was a close up intimate for the fans scene as would be in the OG. Edited: Was it worth it? Reading social media for three seasons there was so much discontent with the concept of GENQ quality. A show that is good does not create so much grief and discontent and outrage over writers, showrunners.. I say the show should not have been rebooted under these circumstance. The stories don't hold any merit in my mind regarding the Originals. I think it was a mistake to allow someone other than Ilene to write for them. They should have made GENQ with the new characters only and let it stand or sink on it's own merit. Had Ilene been in charge introducing new characters it could have easily been done around the old cast (not just 4 originals but many of the 2004-2009 characters) as leads for this reboot. I don't think there would be such dissatisfaction as there is.
Big picture I think it was probably worth it because we got to see some of the OGs back and were introduced to new characters. It had so much potential that 1st season and so much unresolved potential 2nd & 3rd seasons that was such a huge disappointment and overall dissatisfaction but here's hoping for a better S4 with changes made!
Gen Q was better than nothing? It was wonderful to see the four OG. Some of the new characters were good, especially Gigi, but there were too many characters that no one liked. But having a lesbian centric show of any sort is better than nothing. So yes, it was worth it?
Of course it did, no natter that what really proved to be equal to the OG was Bette's candidacy with Danni as PR wizzard, Angie as her queer teen daughter , Gigi 's amazing performance , Gini crumbs, well .. that's about it....and sone emotional moments like the reappearance of OGs
Watching you both pick scenes GOOD scenes from Gen Q REALLY pisses me off...WHY, because there was potential for a really good reboot. I agree with your choices. I would like to ad that I enjoyed what I thought was a Shane/Tess friendship, my reason for not wanting them to be a couple was always that I knew they would fuck it up, and if Tess was a friend, then I think her charecter could have gone somewhere. I did really like the scenes with Rosie and Jac, Carrie and Finley were really good together, they needed each other, and I think the writing for Finley was FINIALLY good, in season 3. While I was glas to see Erin Daniels, that could have been so much better. The entire thing was bad, from that horrible pink suit they ut Erin in, to how uncomfortable Kate looked. How can you get little scenes, here and there, that are so good, and surround it by mostly crap. Season one was ok, season two, after they dropped the poker, which I thought was the most interesting thing from that season, I was pissed...and season 3, the first 2 episodes look like a completely different show. IF it has NOT been for the Carrie/Finley scenes, I'm not sure I would have lasted through the season The L Word was/IS such an important show. Growing up thinking the only time I will EVER see a lesbian is if I watch tennis or the off color joke about the female truck driver. There were a couple movies, that where I am from, were nearly impossble to find...Even after moving to Atlanta, going to Pride with THOUSANDS of "people like me", never did I think there would be a show like The L Word. I remember watching every episode thinking, "is this really happening, a show about women who like women?" TLW, Queer as Folk, Ellen )sitcom, not talk show or person) opened the door to so many charecters. I am still so pissed that Showtime, who made a ton of money of that lesbian show, would hire people that have no business touching such an important part of LGBTQ+ history. I still do not put all blame on MLR, Showtime is the boss, and the people that steared the show the way it went should not be allowed to work in the business again...My opinion REALLY changed after the MLR interview with Jess. The way she acted, the things she said...WTF? (yeah, I am and will be really pissed for a long time at the lack of professionalism, and lack of talent behind the scenes of Gen Q...)
I have a confession... While I think the reboot was worth it, the only OGs I'd have brought back are Alice and maybe Shane. I can't stand Bette, and as such I could never understand the appeal of Bette & Tina. Angie should've been there on her own with Shane & Alice essentially her guardians. I'm not talking killing off B&T... I'm talking have them happily married, of screen, in NY while Angie has come to California for school. Let Beals be in the first episode to establish a few things, then send her on her way. The whole mayor plot was silly. They wasted Jacq Tobani. This should've been a break out role for her. It is equally a travesty that we didn't get to see Finley & Sophie end up together. They could've been, and should've been, this generation's Dana & Alice, but with the ending Alice wanted. Now saying that, since the original show made the huge error of killing off Dana, I do love that they appeared to be putting Alice back Tasha. Frankly all the stuff they did with Bette & Tina in Gen Q should've been Alice & Tasha finding their way back to each other. I admittedly don't know what I'd have done with Dani, because I think the show was right to make Gigi & Nat end game, and I hated Dani with Sophie. Micah was terrible. Great idea, terribly written character, and not a particularly good actor. So glad I didn't waste the $ to pay for Crave to watch the show in real time.
Was the L Word worth rebooting? Of course. Am I glad that it was? Meh. If this show were to come back for Season 4, it would need a complete overhaul IMO. But I won't watch it if nothing changes. There's better fanfiction out there than what these half-assed Gen Q writers turn out.

Love this, made me laugh so much. thank you for doing this.
Loved you both together. Need more like it.
It was so good. You two together are so great, absolutely loved it!!!! Please more of it
I’m going to say I loved all the Dani scenes from season 2 and I’m still wondering how they managed to make us all go from loving her to hating her.
Great video and love you two together. Thanks!
This was so great - thanks so much both of you! 🙏💜💙👏👏
Love this positive look back ❤
I like how season 1 of Gen Q was actually kinda good, just bc of the OGs obviously. But the scenes you guys chose are my favorite scenes as well. 100 % agree with both of you.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Micah and Mean Azz Maribel are da absolute Worst!!!!
Great video ash and and
Jess
Been waiting for this - thank you both
I like when you and Jess do videos together.
Enjoy you two tremendously.
Being a true die hard Jennifer Beals fan, any times she’s on screen it’s worth it!
However,’the writing in S3 left a lot to be desired, a lot🙉🙊🙈
Great video Ash and Jess ❤️
It was worth it to have a show that I looked forward to watching. Did it live up to my excitement and affection not always but it was still good to have those feelings. I would think about our community as a collective waiting for the next episode like a shared experience around the world. Sounds a bit dramatic but I couldn’t wait to discuss the episodes with friends and online . Even people who I’m not in contact with anymore I would imagine what their reactions were , because the OG was so important to us when we were baby gays ❤❤
Great video and you both made a lot of great choices
I completely agree with you both that GiBette could and should have been a deeper storyline. But we aren’t allowed to have nice things 😂😭
As someone who watches this show like 90% for Bette Porter and the other 10% being the OG scenes then for me I feel it was worth it. I just don’t know what they could even do with a S4 even though I’ll definitely be here for it
Also I am always ready to flip a table that they had the audacity to not even mention Kit at the wedding 😱like that should have been an essential moment especially if they were looking to close out Bette’s arc
Ash & Jess, thanks for the video. I have one question for the both of you. Do either of you have any substantial reason as to why Sepideh left the show, was it due to "creative differences" between JB & SM, because you can't get a straight answer from the bus driver. (I watched the interview with Jess & MLR)
Can you pleas answer this question? The fans would like to know the true reason Sepideh left Gen q....
Love this video 👍
You two have TLW Podcast Chemistry! Great job, Ladies!
I mean it did give us Gigi/Gini but FOR WHATT?!?! Now I’m brokenhearted because of what they did to the character
@Hot Takes & Deep Dives Jess, i have a Question. I find it verry interesting. Why you mean, Laurel and Jennifer has hte same Chemistry?
Big picture I think it was probably worth it because we got to see some of the OGs back and were introduced to new characters. It had so much potential that 1st season and so much unresolved potential 2nd & 3rd seasons that was such a huge disappointment and overall dissatisfaction but here's hoping for a better S4 with changes made!
Gen Q was better than nothing? It was wonderful to see the four OG. Some of the new characters were good, especially Gigi, but there were too many characters that no one liked. But having a lesbian centric show of any sort is better than nothing. So yes, it was worth it?
I would say it was worth it, simply because now they know what not to do and prompted a new series.
Of course it did, no natter that what really proved to be equal to the OG was Bette's candidacy with Danni as PR wizzard, Angie as her queer teen daughter , Gigi 's amazing performance , Gini crumbs, well .. that's about it....and sone emotional moments like the reappearance of OGs
maybe GenQ could seed stories for S4...u 2 have great chemistry j
IF it has NOT been for the Carrie/Finley scenes, I'm not sure I would have lasted through the season
The L Word was/IS such an important show.
I want to meet Leisha & Kate in Florida
I have always lovecthe L Word. Bette & Tina all time favorites.. but the reboot was not good...
To me the best s3x scene in GenQ was Gigi and Nat. I love this video. Yes let's focus on the positives 🙂
После этого видео мне даже захотелось пересмотреть genQ
Did not like Bette and Tina scenes, written very poorly and progressed way to fast. I felt a little empty and disappointed.
Coulda bin worthier.
The show has potential, just bad writing.
Micah needs to go! Their whole story and being is super annoying!!
It was sooo trash 🗑️ can’t believe it. I would not have bothered 😕
