Slight correction. The FULL game was released in 2020, they had a demo out for it several years before. and when it first came out, the whole coast guard aspect of it was the main goal, but as of its full release the main motive of the game had changed and now it was more of a sandbox/creative game with an option for a survival/career mode
25:50 -- I think this is actually the base strength of this game, Designing from scratch to as high a level of accuracy or detail as you see fit. Many games (I won't name them) try to ignore the Interior places of ships, cars, aircraft, and spacecraft and claim it's somehow boring to spend long hours walking back and forth inside. I disagree entirely, and that's what makes this game stand out to me.
100% agree - this is one of my favorite things too! I was always fascinated by detailed interior spaces, since it is so subtle yet makes a big difference
What’s wrong with the devs? They’re actively updated the game and fixing bugs, adding more features, and appeasing the community. I’d say they’re doing a wonderful job with the game!
@@Konoctian-EmpireI would agree with you personally, but some updates to the game have broken many old creations and multiplayer is really laggy, I don’t really care but a lot of players do, or at least the vocal people do.
I think in the new stormworks game they should add the ability to see the waterline in the workbench so you can see the bouyouncey (I tried my best) so then it’s easier to design how your ships float
No there is going to be a new game based around building still but nothing to do with stormworks or bring stormworks features to it - it will likely be different gameplay with simple options. it is NOT Stormworks 2
I am a deep fan of Stormwork with around 1400 hours in the game. As a one liner review, the game builder is the most addictive part of the game, but playing the game itself is nothing more than 5 out of 10. The game has SUCH potential, but it is crippled with bugs, the AI is ridiculous, there is no procedural generation (discouraging exploration) and the gameplay is mediocre at best. The whole spirit of this game is in the fun of building things. I do dream of a Stormwork 2.0 ... where it would sit on a powerful engine like Unreal 5.0, has a procedural world creation to encourage exploration, has the same builder, but the team would hire people to make AWESOME campaign gameplay. Briefly a major gameplay overhaul, a new engine and a powerful mission editor. Bottom line is. If you like budling stuff, you will like the game and spend your time designing your creation. However do not expect enjoying playing with your creation that much. If you do not like to build and want to simply play (with other people creations... ), you will NOT like this game.
Fantastic point, well written! I was sort of going at that buy saying it will appeal to people with the build mentality - but absolutely, more wide versed missions with a reason for exploration, Ai who can do something more than just stand, and a better physics engine would be a gamechanger!
I would even add, this game has not only the problem, that there's no real problem, to create solutions, like your creations, there is for me just no real reward for actually doing it, besides getting famous on the workshop. You can't play the multiplayer, if there's no dedicated server, the game is pretty unoptimized and for people like me, that have the "Last gen" gaming PC, simply unplayable. I get frame drops so quickly, it's not even funny. Meanwhile other games that should be heavily taxing, are optimised well enough, to be playable. That's the main killer, for me. The creations & creators are awesome. But the problems in performance & boring single player experience always drive me away, from really thriving in it. I mean, that's what's promised in the shop, build FOR something (in this case a rescue service), not build, test, go onto the next.
@@dawn_darklight My pattern with this game is. I play only it for 2-3 weeks straight, building awesome creations. Then I start playing with my creations for an hour ... uninstall the game while wishing we could play with our machines ...leave it alone for two years ... and come back to build more.
I would be mortified if this game was made in Unreal, Unreal is awful, it looks better than Unity by default because the default shading is nicer but its made to cause rotation in the GPU market from burning out GPUs rather than anything else and the practices of Epic Games are just as bad as Unity Game developers should just learn to develop games, like actually, instead of using game engines, like we used to back in the day.
Just picked this up a few weeks ago mostly because I actually work offshore on seabed surveys so I'm definitely going to try and build and existing ship and what I'd have as an ideal survey vessel. Nice video!
I'm not an engineer and don't really have the time or desire to do builds in this. I feel the game is lacking on the "content" end. I've had to rely on downloading player SAR missions and other workshop things to make it decent. I've done SAR, overland cargo transport on trucks, boats, etc. Haven't done any fishing or mining(don't have mining dlc) but after about 40 hours in the past few weeks. I'm feeling pretty done. I've loved your creations btw, I've used a few extensively.
@@haiweihe8737 true. however the community that does this is quite small, as it takes understanding LUA and all that. its almost non existant, maybe one or two mission packs.
Maybe your just garbage at Stormworks, I’ve been playing for 3 years with like only 300 hours and I love it, it just takes time to learn it, try learning the mechanics and build your own creations, you will be super proud after you complete your first vehicle and it’s very rewarding. I only have the search and destroy dlc which is super fun. Recommend this game if you are GOING to learn it. If not don’t buy it
The game has multiple systems of propulsion. These include diesel motors, electric motors, steam engines, nuclear engines, jet engines, water jets, and rocket boosters. However sailing hasn’t yet been implemented into the game due to how complicated it would be to actually put sails on a ship, however the developers have said that the fishing nets have delivered some insight into how they might work, so we’ll probably end up seeing sails added in the near future, perhaps the next major update
the building is very in-depth, too in-depth sometimes imo, but after that the game is a big nothing burger. There isn't a whole lot to do with these creations you spend real days making
Public early access began in early 2018 if i remember right i do believe there was a few preview versions given out to some youtubers prior to that but it was not full access, and then 2020 was version 1.0/Full release

i find funny how you run over word with words, i like your videos but really trying to explain stormworks its imposible altough you made a really good video jajaja
Amazing game only if you have the capacity to actually learn the game, how microcontrollers work, design and style, maybe some lua script, just know how to make the game fun for you and know how to make this work and resolve and troubleshoot your problems, great game and I’ve been playing it for 3 years, I’m not even 16 yet and I learned the game completely fine, Lua script, microcontrollers, engines and some other advanced stuff just commit
The concept is fantastic but the implementation sucks, that game it's meant for kind of nerdy people who enjoy building things and helping rather than destroying things and looting others, the career mode is abandoned because the company who created the game they want to compete with War Thunder (Weapons dlc) and they want to compete with Kerbal Space Program (Space dlc) and they want to compete with Out of Ore (Frontiers dls) as well, the funniest part is the game physics is so buggy and have so many glitches, so what kind of useless product they want to create? Because for every single one of those environments the physics are crucial...
The physics are actually pretty decent, players just do things to abuse it. And they never tried “competing” with anyone, they just wanted to bring more options to the game. It would feel incomplete without many of the new DLC’s
@@CptFugu To be fair and honest, the game can barely handle a pretty impressive build and only in single player...
