Great update, as always, Voya. As a trained psychologist, I find you are like my superego: you balance between what is there and what is still needed matches not only my own perception, but you seem to do a good job capturing the psyche of many RM2 users.
Thank you, Mr. Voja!! The most important thing is that you have discussed the negatives and positives aspects about reMarkable device with a clear honesty. This is testified by those who have seen the reviews.
Your videos are a complete roller-coaster ride for. First I wanted to buy reMarkable 2, then the jagged line video + low-customer oriented approach, I decided NOT to buy. Now after watching this video, I’m back to buying. It’s great you provide such detailed videos.
Haven't received the 2.6 update yet. But as an academic user, I am very excited because it will definitely improve my experience of reading scan files. Hope the template customization issue could be solved in the 2.7 version.
Great to see some real progress. I really enjoy using my Remarkable 2 and this only adds to the experience. Thanks for the detailed evaluation of the changes.
I can't wait to get the update on both of our Remarkable 2's that my wife and I use. This is a good update. Just hope bookmarks is added next as I could use that frequently on PDF's and notebooks. I have several technical manuals with 100's of pages in each PDF and it is very frustrating to find certain information that could be easy to solve with user defined bookmarks. Keep up the good reviews and feedback.
This is great! I got the update this morning, didn't even know it was coming, or that I wanted it. It feels like the value of my Remarkable increased a lot with this, it's so nice!
Thank you, Voja! I think your cry for meaningful updates has finally reached them! :) Some academic journals using double-columned texts, so in that case, keeping the zoom level between pages could be handy. Another thing that would be great to introduce is a nice solution for taking notes in a notebook while reading a pdf.
What do yall use pinch. I read PDFs all the time and have never felt the need to zoom in. I'm genuinely curious about why this is such a big improvement for some ppl
@@breandanminogue9946 I have been doing engineering homework on my tablet for a couple years. It is mainly a writing experience enhancement. The old zoom method was very awkward and not intuitive. Now I can zoom in to write more comfortably, and when it zooms out to actual size the writing looks very neat and clear. I also read many technical documents, and sometimes is nice to zoom in diagrams and charts.
Hey Voja, thanks so much for the video. Minimized jagged line is good but it's still there. I hope they improve this problem near future. Thanks so much for voicing out. You are helping so many people including me.
Many thanks Voja, still awaiting the update and looking forward to it. The pinch zoom I am sure will be a great help to those that like to draw on the device as well. As you say let us hope that this is a change of heart with regards to the attitude to those that have paid to secure a device that until now has been lacking in love..... From it's creators.
One of my biggest concerns about the remarkable2 was not having pinch-zoom for PDFs, the old system seemed so clunky and bad. Your review just made me fly over to their site and order one. Thanks!!

I just watched the whole 4 parts of yur in depth review and now this update. I do think that the navigation fixes are a game changer :o Before I was really hestistant about the rm2, but I just might be inclined to get one now.
I don't think that physical location of the device has any influence on the availability of the update. I also live in Poland and I already have the update.
huhu - after watching tons of videos (and your's were very helpful) I ordered TODAY a RM2 - I'm using Evernote, Noteshelf on iPad, Livescribe on dotted paper and hopefully soon, a complete new thing, an e-Ink device - I'm looking forward to work with it.
Boox Air is now reportedly coming out with pre-applied screen protector and a new non-adhesive case. Now Remarkable has this software update that helps with the jagged line and the reading. Both companies seem to be fixing problems you have specifically noted on their reviews. I am glad that they are hearing your insights, and I thank you for helping them improve their product. I am close to pulling the trigger in the Boox Air specifically because these issues have been solved. The pen is still the same, but they solved what they could and it looks good. One content suggestion: I would like to see a comparison between systems for sharing the screen on the computer. I know remarkable has their Live View, and Boox can have android apps, but a comparison between solutions, as you did for the handwritten fonts, would be amazing. I am considering buying an e-ink table to help me teaching online classes, and streaming the e-ink screen while using it would be excellent.
There also indications that Boox platform will receive pen tilt functionality sometime in the relative near future, as well as more sophisticated brushes. Not confirmed, but it looks like it :)
Will be doing a test at a later date. Currently i have over 6 hours of recorded footage to edit and 20 videos to make, so yeah, it'll have to wait a bit :)
Really? I thought that it was just a completely regular, standard pinch to zoom functionality that has been a standard for at least 13 years on touch devices.
Excellent review of the new features. Got my 2.6 update. Pinch zooming is so ubiquitous to almost every smart device out there. I'm glad rM finally added this feature. I did some writing tests to check out the improved jaggies. Of course from a naked eye perspective things look very smooth indeed. I was expecting perhaps a slight increase in latency. There was none. In fact, latency seems to be improved as well! Is that possible? What other unadvertised improvements might be hidden in 2.6?
The really game changer for RM2 Is the ddvk hack. The 2.6 update Is bringing some of the features the are already included in ddvk. The only things that I really appreciate are the pinch to zoom functionality that seems to be much smoother than ddvk, and the Jagged line issue partially solved. For the rest, as user that really love this device, I think that the RM Company should work really hard to make Rm2 software good enough to deal with competitors.
Nice and thorough video as always. I really enjoyed it. And it is so shameful that the rM team literally gave the user a mixed signal and ignored all the requests of fixing issues on the writer-side! Remember how they respond to the 'reader-side improvement' requests? They just argued that 'rM is a paper replacement, not a reader.' And ver 2.6 is all enhencement on the reader-side. Conversely, all I can see from their response is that these are 'known issues' including the 'read on Remarkable', and the 'ghost eraser.' However, what is the point of knowing the issues when they simply don't want to fix them! Enhencement? Okay I get it. But what about the 'known but ignored issues'??
I generally can't understand their PR approach and near complete opacity as far as their roadmap goes. It's not professional type of behavior and certainly not a premium type of experience for the users that pay a premium price for a product that is advertised as being a premium product.
Hello Master. two days ago, I updated my RM2 to 2.6. And I think it's better about jagged line issue like you said. but, today I found another terrible problem. In the Center of screen, the interval between pen and screen is very different. I feel it's 3mm further than anywhere of screen. I think most of RM2 users can feel it's different. WTF......
Will you make another video testing the speeds and eraser bug etc? Those two are very important and I’ve read people say that both that it got slower and faster. Especially the undoing and erasing got slower I read. Still great update and great video. Just wish you had tested that too since many of us don’t have the update yet. I hope I’m not unlucky and have it be slowing my device down.
On my Boox Note Air I actually switched the pinch-zoom OFF, because it was far too often accidentally activated by my palm resting on the screen. Maybe rM has a better palm rejection and this will not happen. Yet, I will wait with updating my rM, till I read more reports. Especially that on rM it cannot be switched off in case if in real life it does not turn out to work flawlessly.
I was very disappointed by the .71 update, as it made the device slower, but the same day they issued the .75 which fixed that. Pinch to zoom is nice, but it would be better if they had incorporated 3 fingers instead of 2 - mistakes in gestures would be avoided this way. As for the smoothness of lines, I have to say that my perception is to the worse; also the bent lines issue around the edges is not fixed. Other than that, thanks again for your in depth video; your contribution to the rm community is immense.
Hi Voja, have you noticed the list view of documents has disappeared, so we have only thumb view left? When did that happen, was a very useful feature.
I can't see much use for most of this for me; I have yet to load a PDF onto the unit and if I want to read books, I have a (better) Kindle Oasis for that that has access to Amazon without messing about trying to convert files etc.
Thanks for the overview. On the jagged line issue, I actually like the 2.6 line much more than the Funkey line. The Funkey line is straight, but any variations in latitude is seemingly represented by a new line segment with rectangular right angles at fairly pronounced different spot latitudally than where the previous line segment ended (which is all supposed to be the same line). It looks very inorganic, almost like it's just a series of rectangular line segments poorly copy and pasted next to each other, stretched to different lengths. The 2.6 line looks like it was written with a real pen or pencil, which will naturally have a little noise around the edges from either/or ink bleeding or pressure differences. It's not totally photorealistic, but I'll take that 2.6 line any day.
Good to see improvements. However, I won't bother to install 2.6. My hacked 2.5 is way more useful than a non-hacked 2.6 would be. I'll wait for 2.7 or beyond to see what they bring and only then consider installing them. Thanks for the review!
Do you get used to the flashing of the screen while it refreshes as you move from page to page and now pinch and zoom? I'm considering getting a Remarkable 2, but I'm worried that's something I won't be able to get used to
Thank you Voja for this excellent video. I have 2 questions though: 1. Will there be a conflict between 2.6 and the funkeys patch if you have already installed this patch? 2. Will you have to re-install the funkeys patch after 2.6 update, and will it still work with 2.6? Thanks in advance.
1. With any installed hack, the safest approach is to uninstall it prior to updating. Maybe it'll work fine, maybe it won't. This way, you can have a peace of mind. 2. Well, point one addresses that :)
Thanks for this review. You do a great job. Do you have any idea why the company takes so long to upload the software on the devices? I prefer ask to you rather the Remarkable custom support.
Thank you for watching :) Remarkable uses what is normally known as a "gradual rollout" approach when distributing updates. This means that a new update gradually rolls out to the devices over a period of, sometimes even a couple of weeks. It's not region based or anything like that. The reason behind such a method is to notice if there is a significant error caused by the update, in which case they can stop the rollout, so that the error doesn't affect many users. Then they can fix it, and re-roll again. It's a safety precaution that's sometimes used in the industry and is perfectly normal.
as usual your reviews and follow ups are fantastic. Now, which tablet would you recommend today for making notes? I'm leaning towards remarkable2 but....
Supernote A5X, if notetaking is your priority, or maybe even Mobiscribe Origins, though i haven't had a chance to properly test it yet, but first impressions were quite good. Boox Note Air or Nova 3 (not Color) are an excellent balance between a capable note taking device and an exceptional reader, and would be a valid choice for such use case scenarios. Quirklogic Papyr is an excellent note taking device and has amazing real-time collaborative features that are unmatched by any other platform, but it doesn't have a dedicated reader (yet) and it's notetaking capabilities are still basic.
what kind of Color did the Marker have when i mark text in a PDF File? When i take it back on the PC ? and if its grey, would i be able to change the color on PC or how is it?
In terms of consistency, I was really hoping internal eBook links would work too. Unfortunately this is not the case. The table of contents in the page overview works, but internal links - e.g. a table of contents on a page does not work.
@@MyDeepGuide my bad, I thought that you would have started with the jagged lines issue if something had improved. I now watched the end of the video and I'm pretty happy that we agree!
This update might make this device a contender. There was no was I was going to spend $500 on a device that can't even render an epub or provide the basic navigation of a pdf.
Would you recommend the Remarkable 2? I have a Supernote and the palm rejection is just awful. I love the device but it’s a frustrating experience especially for a lefty.
What is so maddening is the reMarkable response. A year or longer I complained about the table of contents not working. They asked for an example which I provided. Who knows if I was the first or one of many that wrote to them. I was never told this is an issue and we either have it on our bug list or will add it. I say bug list because they acted like it was a working feature. I was told I must be doing something wrong. This is beyond terrible customer service. If reMarkable reads these comments. Nothing wrong telling us there is an issue and will work on it. Or even saying it may take a year...yuk. At least own up to the issues. You will have a more forgiving group of users. Don't tell me it's my problem. This company should be studied by the Harvard business school to learn how the worst customer centric company operates. I do hope this update suggests a change in the company. Except they should be reaching out to their customers. It is long overdue.
The opacity and arrogance are still an issue. As I reacted during the summer of 2020, their first blog post about the new product was exclusively about their CEO. That was very alarming to me, but i hoped that i was wrong. It seems that i wasn't and their behavior makes sense if you look at it from a marketing and catering towards investors stand point. It is a strategy used to inflate an IP, either before a sale or before going for new investors into the company. It's a known business marketing strategy (not marketing your product, but marketing your company) and it's working. They have the blurbs, the quotes and headlines they need to include in their future investors or other presentations. And i don't have a problem with that, it's a necessary side of business, of course, but it becomes a problem when it's the only thing that is happening. No communication, no humility, no development. Look at the end effect. Some users are absolutely mind blown that the barest of the bare minimums has been implemented after 3 and a half years, because that's what this is, the bare minimum. Yet, the users have been conditioned to believe that it's their fault for expecting bare minimum functionality of their expensive device, so when anything is delivered, they rejoice completely out of proportion. Casing point, people calling the bog standard pinch to zoom gesture in 2021 "amazing", "best thing ever" and "a gamechanger".
can you please do a comparison of Remarkable 2 and Nova 3 writing experience? Seem like Nova 3 is a good device but may not be serving its main purpose, writing on glass vs "paper-like feel" on Remarkable device. Thanks
@@MyDeepGuide I did watch your review, it was in depth and thank you for that. I was wondering if you could kindly comment/go into little more details on the writing experience on Nova 3.
Is this also available on the 1st generation of ReMarkable?
as usual your reviews and follow ups are fantastic.
Here in US I am unable to get the 2.6 updated version. Is there any known reason for this issue?
Update noy yet arrived on my ReMarkable2 !!!!
I'll make sure there's a patch for my hacked device before updating. I already have zoom with the hack anyway but the PDF navigation will be nice
In terms of consistency, I was really hoping internal eBook links would work too. Unfortunately this is not the case. The table of contents in the page overview works, but internal links - e.g. a table of contents on a page does not work.
Compared to Onyx boox note 3? Which one is better?
Thank you for this helpful review. I have a feeling that the jagged lines issue has improved significantly after this update...or maybe is just me?
Have you watched the video before commenting? If you have, then you may have missed a part...
Great video! Where do you get your non-drm ebooks?
Hi, thanks. I am based in NO and no update yet.... I wonder how is it possible? But device tells me that 2.5 is the current version.
Would you recommend the Remarkable 2? I have a Supernote and the palm rejection is just awful. I love the device but it’s a frustrating experience especially for a lefty.
Have you tried enabling the two finger page swiping on the Supernote? It effectively eliminates the palm rejection problems.
Is it possible that the lines on my remarkable are tighter than on yours? I don't suffer from bumpy lines at all.
Great, long awaited but... when ?????
How can I charge it in a country that uses 220 volts. I bought it in the USA
Do you think that the lack of backlight and low capacity are the main disadvantages of this device
Does it have dvdk hack support? I only see the max at 2.14.1.866. some places I'm seeing 2.5 but can't find it
I don't use hacks on my remarkable, so I don't know.
Do they give the same update on remarkable 1?
It should be, they are keeping the platform synchronized, it just takes longer time for it to roll out.
I heard this device does not support text search - is this true?
Handwritten word search in notebooks no, it's not supported. In documents and books word search is supported.
Mine is not showing an update. Why do they all not have the update yet?
can you please do a comparison of Remarkable 2 and Nova 3 writing experience? Seem like Nova 3 is a good device but may not be serving its main purpose, writing on glass vs "paper-like feel" on Remarkable device. Thanks
If you watch my Nova 3 review, that comparison is made :)
@@MyDeepGuide I did watch your review, it was in depth and thank you for that. I was wondering if you could kindly comment/go into little more details on the writing experience on Nova 3. I liked Remarkable 2 but it's too big for me to carry at work. I was wondering if I would get similar writing experience on Nova 3 (I do realise you said "writing on Remarkable 2 is excellent quality whereas Nova 3 is very good"
Germany has already the update. Thanks for review. You should apply to remaklable as a product manager. Very good thoughts how to improve this tablet which take the remarkable use case into account.
Thank you :) Well, they have my contact, and have had for over 3 years. Product manager, no thanks, management there seems not compatible to the way i function, but as a consultant, sure.
I’m pretty sure not every German has it, it doesn’t seem to be location based.
German here, I unfortunately don't have the update yet.
We are on 2.8 as of today :)
