My list of beginner piercings is
    1- lobes
    2-septum
    3-vertical labret
    4- conch
    5- eyebrow

Yes vertical labret looks so much more intimidating than it is, especially when you have a good piercer

I totally agree with you about the septum being a good starter piercing. Mine was a walk in the park to get done and heal. Obviously everyone's experiences differ but I think that, generally speaking, it is a fairly easy piercing.
Btw I once saw a man on the subway that only had his helix pierced, not his lobes, so it appears that your assumption is correct!

Surprisingly the conch peircing has been an easy heal for me as well. If anything the worse I’ve had with it is being careful due to the mask. I have been healing mine with a stud though.

Got my conch a couple of days ago, found it surprisingly not bad in terms of pain, and the healing so far is going well.

My first piercing was my lobes. I had to get it done 3 times though! Twice as a child and they got infected every time. I think I was allergic to the nickel. Then on my 30th birthday I decided to try again. I went to a tattoo shop and got titanium jewelry. It went much better and they’re perfectly healed now! 👏🏼 My second piercing was my nostril. 👍🏼

My helixes are a complete pain in the butt. They didn't hurt bad, but I constantly have bumps on them and it really irritates me. My first was done two years ago and my second a little over a year. So yeah, I'm so done with those freakin bumps. Got my rook done last summer, no bumps, never. Just occasionally a bit more swollen, but never ever had a bump on it.

I now have four conch piercings and they are my favorites. My first right conch was my first non-lobe piercing and it got me into piercings. I now have 19 piercings in my ears (10 in left, 9 in right) and im so glad i started with the conch.

I 100% agree with your opinions on nostril piercings. I got my first one as my first real piercing and it fell out all the time and got a huge bump, i got my second one years later and it never got a bump and healed way faster 🥰

I agree with most except for one. I agree lobes are easy. My Conchs were a walk in the park for me as well. And to me not painful to get.
My septum was also a breeze and not very painful to get done. Similar to a nostril.
My tragus on the other hand was the most painful piercing I've had, and I've had over 30 piercings. And healing was not fun.
I'd for sure recommend a rook! Was not that painful at all!

i got my lobes in june and my septum in novemeber and my septum healed first lol. my lobes were definitely my learning experience in terms of just figuring out what the hell to do and i think they're good for that because of how forgiving they are. besides those i have a labret from january that i've had zero issues with. gonna get some cartilage piercings (either helixes or lobes, haven't decided which first) in the next couple months so i feel my easy streak will be over then lol

I'm 45 years old (M) and my very first first piercing (3 months ago) was a Flat Piercing. It was a little chameleon and my wife got a matching one. 1 week later... I went back in and got my daith pierced and a double helix. I've designed out my plan for both my ears (and possibly nose and eyebrow) and my piercer and I have a tentative schedule for the 2nd flat, a double snug, an orbital just above my upper lobe and a UFO piercing. My piercer was kinda surprised that I have no desire for a lobe piercing - but she kinda has me thinking about a transverse lobe, but that would be the last one I get. So, while you don't personally know me, I definitely didn't start with the lobes 😅 (love your channel btw)

Hi gretchen I completely agree with your 5 choices and your reasoning behind not including the nostril piercing as I had one in my teens and did everything correct but still developed a bump. I recently got my nostril pierced again as I'm now 34 and just felt like I finally wanted it back and up to now it's going really well.

I almost followed Gretchen's order of piercings!
    1) Lobes My mom made that choice for me when I was a baby.
    2) Navel piercing. I got mine done back in 1998 when it wasn't as popular as it seems to have become since then.
    3) Left helix piecing! Got this done a few months after my navel piercing.
    4) Left tragus. Done in 2011
    5) Right tragus. Done in 2012
So, why am I watching piercing videos 11 years after my 2nd tragus piercing? Well, I go 2 more since my tragus piercings!
    6) Daith and Industrial. These two were done two days apart in early August 2023!

I will say septum is perfect because you can hide it. When I flip mine, I forget I am even wearing it. I follow a lot of piercings on Reddit, and so many people get bumps.

but then i saw the industrial's jewellery are cute and went for it as the final decision lol and it wasn't as bad as i've imagined, as my first piercing,
and that way if i'm gonna get another piercings in the future it won't be as pain and as hard as this to heal😂😂

I feel like I got very lucky with my nostril piercings all 3 times especially with the horror story I shared with what silly idea I did when I was 18. If you want to know Gretchen reacted to that horror story. I can’t smell out of my left nostril because of my crazy choice at 18. Go to professional piercers always. My first nostril peircing I got done two times and my second mistral peircing I got done one time.

Great video! I actually think helix piercings are one of the most difficult piercings to heal, even though this is often one of the first piercings people get. I have personally never met someone who has never had any issues with their helix piercing. It always seems to be a pain for several months or years before it calms down (if it ever does). Quite interesting!

I agree for the most part. My conch was very easy, even easier than my tragus. I've never had a helix other than a forward and I feel like those are two very different experiences. My forward helix is a b****. And it's so hard to change the jewelry. I also agree septum is easy. It had been my least painful and quickest healing piercing.

My first one was my tongue 23 years ago which is crazy to say lol I was fifteen. I don’t always wear the jewelry but it’s still open. Second was my nostril at 18 and I worked at a job that didn’t want me to have it so of course I got a bump from putting it in and taking it out constantly when it wasn’t healed yet. Luckily I had discovered I was pregnant and quit the job so now years later it’s still here. My daughter just got her first one (besides the ears I did when she was a baby) and it’s a nostril.

I wanted to get a septum eventually, but I am afraid to because I have a large, long nose. My friends told me I could do a nostril but not a septum. I would like a belly button piercing but need to work on my core first.

  • @tamisammons53

I only have my ears pierced. Started with my lobes of course. But I was in the military and that's all I could have, sort of. But I agree with the septum, even though I would never do that or any part of my nose. I'm prone to allergies so it doesn't seem like fun blowing your nose with something there, especially before it heals. One of my friends at work only has a septum. She'll never get anything on her ears because of a bad experience with it being ripped out. Not sure if it was her's or someone close to her. Her ears seem unblemished.

kinda surprised that the eyebrow piercing didnt make the list!
my first piercing was my eyebrow and I found it really easy to care for, also it was impossible to "forget" to clean it because of where it is!
it's right there above your eye when you look in the mirror each morning screaming "clean me" whereas I feel that an ear piercing would be easy to forget, especially if you are in a rush in the morning.
as to a "definitely NOT a starter piercing" anti eyebrow (butterfly) dermal anchor!!!
this was my second piercing and its been really temperamental and it is taking much longer for the initial bruising to go down than with my eyebrow or the flat piercings besides my eye, which were done after the dermals!
i dont have any other piercings than those around my right eye and never have!

I think it's wild that so many people had issues with a nostril piercing! I had my lobes done when I was a baby (cultural reasons) and my first piercing after that was my nostril. Healed super easy, did saline twice a day and then left it alone. After my 2nd and third lobes I went for the industrial. Thank god I was old and mature enough to take good care of it. A pain to heal! The only thing I think you missed to mention (Haven't finished watching yet so maybe you did) is anatomy. Tragus is a good piercing, but sometimes you don't have the anatomy for it. I have one, but because my tragus is tiny, I can only wear limited style of studs there.

personally i dont really understand helix piercings as the easiest/best for first cartilage piercing, because the helix is a very out there ear part. A helix piercing is more likely to get caught on your hair, hats, headphones etc. than an inner ear piercing. or thats my point of view as a someone with a rook but no helix piercings. is the healing other wise then easier, since its a thinner piece of cartilage?
Also on septum piercings if someone has tips, is it a good piercing for someone who is really sensitive to all kinds of smells? because i read they can smell even if you clean them properly

    • @lillianm5344
      @lillianm5344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The helix is thinner so I guess it’s a good introduction to cartilage, however my friend let hers close due to constant issues and mine took a year to heal because exactly what you said: it gets snagged. I hugged my dad and he bumped it with his massive dad watch and that made it bleed and I had to get rid of the bump again (a nightmare)
Septums: they can smell yeah, but I’ve only noticed it more when I’m in the shower and moving the jewellery around a lot to clean it. I’ve found it gets less over time (I’ve had mine for 7 months) and it’s only really when moving the jewellery around a whole bunch
I’m not exactly sure with the sensitive smells part sorry

I got my lobes first, then my helix, then my navel and most recently my conch. They have all been pretty easy to heal except that the long bar on my conch keeps getting caught on my mask. I've had it for 6 months so I ordered new jewerly with a shorter bar and I'm going to see if that helps.

    • @andreakirkova3322
      @andreakirkova3322 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The longer jewelry is there actually for a reason, because it might swell during the healing process and then there might not be enough place when you change for shorter jewelry. I have had my conch pierced 2 months ago, and the longer jewelry provided just enough space for the swelling to occur. I can not imagine how much it would hurt if I had shorter jewelry instead.

My first non-lobe piercing was my rook... Let's hope it heals well! I'm a little scared it wasn't the best piercing to start with

Don't be scared! This list wasn't meant to deter anyone from getting other piercings as their first non-lobe ones, just ones I thought were best. Everyone's list will be different! Just keep up with proper aftercare and you'll be good. 😊

I’m that person who went straight for a cartilage piercing 🤡 I got a helix 2 weeks ago. Still don’t have my lobes pierced, and don’t intend to pierce my lobes anytime soon because I don’t care much about ‘earrings’.

A unique option could be an anti-tragus? It’s close to the lobes but you’re wearing more ‘jewellery’ based things like the flat back or the hoops etc rather than earrings

I love my nostril piercing ♥️. I have three lobe piercings on each ear also. Many years ago I got my Helix pierced and it was my worst experience. I was pierced with a gun at Claire’s. After three months it got super infected and I had to take it out, that was painful. I have had my nose pierced for four months now and it has been the best piercing for me. As opposed to you I highly recommend a Nose piercing to anyone whom is looking to enter the piercing world.

Keep in mind that when I said a helix piercing is a good piercing to start with, it’s based on getting it done by a professional with a needle and not at Claire’s with a piercing gun. I too had a helix done with a gun at Claire’s way back when and it got so infected, my dad had to use pliers to get the jewelry out.

@@GeauxGretchen gun piercing’s are horrible all around. I agree better to have a professional with a needle do it Always.
