Won't lie, the flapping wing-sails seems derpy and silly to me. I get the mechanics and logic behind it, but it still feels funny XD
Oh it's on the revision list LOL I appreciate the input - I'd rather have the feedback now, than later :-D
I love the aesthetic! would love to see smaller crewed dirigibles too! and I agree with the feedback about handling, some weight to the feel of moving through the air since it is a fluid, would need some kind of bouyant feeling.
This is looking really nice so far! I'm a huge Arcadia fan and the vibe looks spot on.
Not that you're asking for feedback, so feel free to disregard this. One minor thing that seemed kind of goofy (and this is just subjective), is the flapping wings in the back. It doesn't feel like a human built it. They might turn and twist, like wings on a plane, or even row like a boat. Or, if they must flap, the boat would have to react accordingly- moving up and down slightly against the motion of the wings. However, as an engineer, I'm struggling to comprehend the internal structure of these wings.
Edit: Watching again, I suppose it does go up and down a little bit.
I didn’t think about that either, also what is the point of the sails then?
I love this feedback! So, fellow engineer here and I COMPLETELY understand where you two are coming from. There's a natural tick in me to want to have to explain everything and it's something (especially during POC / demo stage) that I've had to overcome. Some things in fantasy games are difficult to give detailed reasoning on. Though, I'm going to see how much depth we can put into it because I don't want to produce a game that's a mile wide and an inch deep haha.
Also that said... some of the inspiration was from real world people like Da Vinci and then fictional works like Studio Ghibli were you see mechanized items attempt to mimic "organic" movement to achieve things like flight (for example). Combine all of that with this being my first game and learning animation / programming lol.
Look at this way... When we make a flying whale, we already have the animation blueprint completed :-D
@@HorizonsOfAchaea that’s why I thought the World War II looking ships, I guess you would say steamers in Skies Of Arcadia made much more sense.
Yeah, it's just visual fun as we're building the underpinning. I believe even the Little Jack had them. But not 100% of the time. These little details are so much fun to experiment with in order to really hone in on what will make the immersion greater.
definitely think there are better ways to indicate how a ship would be 'flying' like this than the flapping wings. Personally not a huge fan. I think propellers or something of that sort might be something to consider. or keeping the sails rigged. The rest looks interesting though! Like the idea of an airship sailing type game. But that's just my thoughts. As a Pilot I have a Bias to the type of aviation type mechanics seen in fantasy worlds lol. I'm sure there are people who might disagree with my preferences in style for how stuff flys in other worlds.
Best of luck with the project!
Check out our more recent videos. You'll see we've patched the bottom fin animation :-) And thank you for your support!
@@HorizonsOfAchaea will do!
owww it’s too beautiful!!! when the demo comes out?
there is perhaps a little thing missing that indicates that we advance when the areas are large (as at the beginning of the flight, personally I do not have too much pressure to advance although the movement of the wings indicates that we move )
but it’s really nice
UI elements are coming soon! :-D
yeahhh I’m really looking forward to it!!!
I’m too impatient even if I know that it takes time to do everything... I just play games, I don’t do them.
I'm right there with you!! Tomorrow can't come fast enough :-D
as we say in my country "little by little the bird makes its nest"
we believe in it, we follow the adventure and we wait
@@lynia9690 I LOVE that saying. Taking note of it.
Looks awesome guys but I don’t care for the air stream lines, maybe coming off the tips and not so long and off the hard edges of the ship like the back top corners and bottom peak edge where the hull ends in back
The air stream lines absolutely need work. 100% agree. And they need to be more dynamic, as they only happen during certain conditions to my understanding with airplanes. And they also didn't show up all the time in Skies of Arcadia. Just certain points where the player was "cruising." I'm hoping to refine some of those details as we work on weather effects.
Also you should reference how skies of Arcadia’s were more for forward movement like a fish’s fins
I'm sitting here thinking how much I can't wait for you to see our next ship we'll be debuting in late September LOL
One of the things that pulls me out of immersion on this is the immediate handling. I feel like there should be a slight delay with the turning controls, maybe with a wind-up to the full turning speed as you hold the arrow key, so it feels more fluid. Other than a slight gripe you've already discussed with another commenter (the wind lines), I think it's looking beautiful, and I'm really excited to see how this goes.
This is good feedback! One of the things we made a last minute adjustment to was turning left or right would cause the boat to lean 10°.
I think we can play around with it some more though, like you're thinking!
Looking good! Please give as an option to sail automatically from one island to the next on a fixed path, like riding horses in Breath of the Wild, so we can gaze upon the skies during flying : D
I think you'll love the idea we have for travel options
Awesome stuff, I love the look so far! I'm not sure I'm feeling the organic looking lower flapping fins. But I hope you folks include ship options because I'm sure others disagree with me and want to keep the flappy fins haha
The fins may or may not be something we just corrected tonight LOL. But hey, that's why we post for feedback ;-D
My personal feedback is the ship feels too front heavy. Maybe you could add some type of extension out the back like a helicopter. You could make it move when you turn left or right so it would be easier to see at a glance what your ship is doing.
GORGEOUS VISUALS 🔥
GORGEOUS MUSIC !
