    I don’t think I have a outlet for my coaxial do you know any adapters that would work?

      So if you have Comcast Xfinity in your place, you should have a wall coax outlet. If you're talking about your router not having a coax port, then you don't have an Xfinity router.

    I've paid for Xfinity internet for the past five years, I pay for 100mbps and it's never above 30mbps unless I call and complain, then it's around 100mbps for a day or 2, and back to 30. I've called about this no less than a dozen times over the past 2 years... and the last two times they scheduled a technician to come out where I had to be home for a 2-3 hour window, and both times the technician didn't show up, didn't call, didn't care. Comcast is the most awful atrocity of customer service on the planet. Last time I spoke with them, their suggestion was that I pay more for faster speeds and lock into a 3 year contract with them. Why would I pay for faster speeds when you only give me 33% of the speed I'm currently paying for?

    • @AtHomewithLucas
      @AtHomewithLucas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Oh that sucks. Are you 100% you are seeing MB not Mbps stated on your Xfinity speeds. Because 100Mbps is only 12.5MB...didn't know if you where aware of the difference 🤷‍♂️🙂

    Interesting that yours came in a flat box and sealed in plastic shrinkwrap like that. Our XB7 came in a hipster-ish box the same shape as the gateway itself with little compartments for the power supply and cables. We had been eligible for a new gateway since we upped to gigabit speed a few months ago, but Xfinity didn't tell us at the time which I find odd. Instead I found out by accident, clicking a link in a Google search result. Our grey XB6 with it's internal AC power supply ran hot so the fan was loud, and it couldn't handle gigabit speed. The XB7 is definitely an improvement.

    Are there any differences between the Xfinity XB7-T that you used in your updating demo and the Xfinity XB7-CM that I just received?

    • @AtHomewithLucas
      @AtHomewithLucas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question...first off you can turn off your Xfinity Hotspot on your current router using the xfi app. You don't need a second router to stop sharing with neighbors...
      But to your question yes the XB7-T or XB8 will allow bringing with specific Router that they say will work with Xfinity.

    I should be able to use this router as a main and then connect it to another router that would be an access point right? I want to get a TP-Link router to use in the basement as an access point because the signal sucks down there, but they have different set up interfaces. I think I know how to make one an access point and disable its DHCP server but wasn't sure if you can use different brand routers together.

      I would contact Xfinity and tell them your problem...they should be able to work with you on getting you free Xfi pods. They should fix all your dead spots.
      Also if multiple routers made sense Comcast would be offering two routers to everyone (make more money) but they never do unless your house is 30 thousand square feet lol

    One disadvantage appears to the number of status lights. The old Arris internet/phone modems had 8 status lights; power; two for internet; two for wifi; two for telephone; and a battery light. Looks like this only has one multicolor light, that you need to remember what each color stands for (and still doesn't show all the same info as the old model). Guess it's looks over information.

      Hey sorry for the late reply. Did you figure out your problem?

    • @superelephant360
      @superelephant360 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The router/modem (called the "gateway") and TV box are two separate devices.
      With regard to the gateway, internet comes into the gateway via a round cable coming out of the wall called coax, and then goes out to your devices either wirelessly via Wi-Fi or over a cable called ethernet (sort of rectangular).
      With regard to the TV box (probably an X1 box if you have Xfinity), the TV signal comes into the TV box via a a coax cable, and then goes out to the TV via either HDMI (carries both video and audio) or via Component cables (red, blue, and green cables for video, red and white cables for audio) or via Composite cables (yellow for video, red and white for audio) or via a coax cable like you mentioned.
      If you want to use a coax cable to get the picture to your TV, you can do that by plugging a coax cable directly from the "Coax out" port on your Xfinity TV box to the coax port on your TV - you don't have to mess with HDMI at all. If your TV and TV box have the red/blue/green Component connections, though, you might want to use that since it's HD like HDMI.
      One other thing: with regard to the coax cables, if you have both an Xfinity Gateway and an Xfinity TV box and you want to plug them into the same coax jack on the wall in your room, then you'd need a coax splitter.
      This page explains this stuff pretty well:

      Its not beneficial. Your routers job is to direct information the most efficient way. If you get to many walls between you and the router you want to switch off 5 and go to the 2.4 and the router does that for you.

    • @AtHomewithLucas
      @AtHomewithLucas  ปีที่แล้ว

      #1 benefit is to set up a 2.4ghz device that won't connect to a Mesh network. Xfinity, being a Mesh network, makes it very hard to connect new smart home devices such as doorbells, smart lights, etc.

    My experience with Xfinity has been a terrible one. First, they did something that fried my $500+ router/modem that I bought to accommodate the 1.2-gigabit service and I have been dealing with slower speeds that my older router supplies. I called to set up to use one of their rentals rather than pay $500+ for a replacement. The next day I went to my local store during my lunch break a 35-minute drive only to find that they closed the office because their system was down. Left work early so I could make it to the store before they closed @ 5pm only to find out that they couldn't give me a router because the person on the phone from the day before didn't put in the order and they couldn't put in an order for me so I could be on my way. I asked them to call Customer Service to place the order and they said they couldn't. I called while at the counter and after about 20 minutes of trouble with the agent on the phone, I finally was handed a new router. I get home to install and everything you mentioned was in the box except the only thing I don't already have. That's right, no power supply was in my box. I will have to repeat the pain in the azz of missing my lunch break to run back to the Xfinity store to most likely have to argue my way into getting them to give me a router. You can bet your azz that I will be opening the box to make sure everything is included before I leave the store. I hate Xfinity. If there was another option for me to get high-speed internet from a different provider, I would have left them a long time ago.

      Also depending on your plan you can get your data cap removed for like $10-15 extra. I pay $125/month for their 1.2Gbps plan (no contract). The $25 covers my gateway rental and removes the data cap. This is just a PSA as they have hidden deals you have to hunt for.

    • @AtHomewithLucas

      If you have an older router (XB3) just call Xfinity and say you are have connection problems in part of your house. They should send out a new router.
      Now as for buying any router, Yes you can go to Bestbuy get a router and connect it to your Xfinity router. But you will need to set your Xfinity router to Bridge Mode (that turns off the router function but keeps On the modem) then you plug the new router in via the ethernet cable. As for better gaming yes Wifi 6 will get you there 👍💯😁

I run a 40 device smart home and never had any MAJOR issues with the XB7 but now I have noticed that my cameras and switches never drop signal and they are still on a 2.4 GHz band. I'm pretty sure it's all done by Xfinity. They send out silent updates all the time. Most of the time, if you have a problem with your router, it's because you got an update with bugs. But a simple router unplugging and plugging back clears the bugs.

    I've tried 2 of the XB7 modems and they each keep dropping devices -- either my work laptop, or my own personal laptop & iphone together get dropped -- so I have to keep resetting the modem to get these devices to reconnect. This happens almost daily and sometimes several times a day. So, I'd say these modems are complete garbage. I'm going to have to look into getting my own modem because this is especially disruptive when I'm losing connection to work. I've had numerous XFinity techs come to my house to see if there is some other issue, but I can only conclude these modems are complete junk. One tech told me to just get my own modem.
