Outstanding lecture. After years of visits to many many docs, I was eventually thankfully diagnosed Mayo Clinic w Primary L Tarda, began age 35, otherwise healthy known cause left leg, now age 73, progression permanent heavy painful limb. Affected every aspect of my life. Thank you for what you are doing. Cleveland Clinic therapy 3 weeks wraps, garments, pump, exercises, etc.
I am James Osborn a 69 year old man, who was diagnosed with Edema although I have heard people speak of it. I never imagined that at this age it would be involved in my case. I met Dr Iyhere online on youtube, through the help of my son. After I took his drugs I have been relieved.
It's a topic that is just being brought up and people have suffered for years with it. Hospitals are training doctors to diagnose it. I have 3 Lymph nodes removed . I'm tired of it. Because I was never told about it until months after surgery. I can't lose weight. God help. I pray for my friend who is suffering worse than I.
I sure would like to know where the surveillance of our vector population is that would substantiate the claims of our medical system that filariasis is not possible here. We have all of the associated diseases and very compatible vectors and yet our livestock and our pets are the only ones that are examined for parasitic sources and treated humanely without high morbidity rates. The WHO, CDC, IDSA, and the NIH need to add citations to relevant up to date vector surveillance data.
I have Lupus, had 3 joint replacements and have developed Lymphedema in my left foot and ankle and my right knee and calf. Is there any relationship between Lupus and Lymphedema due to chronic inflammation?
I have Lupus and I'm dealing with this in my left leg. No Doctor in my area has any idea what is going on or what to do. It's so frustrating. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too.
My valves no longer work in my left lower leg because of sepsis when pregnant with twins at 42. I now have sciatica in left hip. Senior Centers and park districts are closed and I am getting fatter. Moving hurts and standing is worse.
Dr. Rockson, your presentation was so informative. I do believe that I do have the disease. I am going to forward your information to my primary doctor to see if she can find someone in the Tampa area. I have swelling up to my waist and believe that I have Lymphedemia with excessive pitting. Thank you.
My arm has been swelling after covid and one point caused a bruise. My doctors are doing nothing and treating me like I am crazy. Where can I find a doctor like you?
I am being held hostage in a rehab for lymphedema patients. Most people do not know why they are here. Drug testing for other pharmaceuticals are freely done. Women receive blood thinners that turn into waltz that Make the skin bleed. This should be considered dangerous and a crime.
I cannot believe a disease that is not rare and I’ve never heard of it!! It should be included in info given to people, for one group, that are told they have cancer!! Not wait til they get it.
Dr Rockson, thank you so much for this comprehensive presentation. I think the biobridge is a very exciting concept, potentially ending the misery of post surgery lymphedema entirely. My question - has any work been done on autophagy fasting as an adjunct to treatment? Do you think it might be helpful?
I am interested in an answer to your question as well. I have secondary lymphedema due to cancer treatments (surgery, chemo, radiation) and I have found profound relief from my symptoms due to being on a low carb, high healthy fat diet and time restricted eating (fasting). I've been doing this for over a year and seen remarkable improvement. Not all better, but much better and I think there is room for even more improvement.
What are flatweave garments? I am having problems with using compression for my legs. I am seeing changes in tissue and hardness. Now my situation may have progressed to stage 3. I feel hopeless and don't see any edema being resolved. Thank you!
@PaulzWassel &(@SusunSlatky) What is supplier name& phone, who can offer flatWeave ??? They may offer a little much-needed relief. I've had to change primary doctor (to 1 offering better bedside compassion?) but not the proper diagnosis til I'd ugly bubbles of fluid arise and burst on both legs& f I n a l l y Dr. enuff upse@ possible heart failure as possible diag. . That doc sends me finally to 1 who suggests edema. Insurance fights me for another 8 no., then refers to new Dr.( who suggests compression & PT sessions.) Mailed wrong, ('astray' for 6wks enroute) compression garments ended-up mis-sized!! @size small ! ! way too tiny. Obviously they didn't care if patient gets help as long as THEIR main point goes well (their bill is psid.) Tiny garments so torturously-forced over edematous-skin leaves me painful welts where skin pinched by tight-strips bubbles out. Is this medicine in America? No better way for aid? Please help me contact @What's name of company with flat-weave ???? At least if I measure properly, maybe theirs would be LESS painful/torturous ?
ok this may sound crazy to you but I believe i acquired secondary lymphedema via the high cumulative radiation from my cell phone , ipad and blue tooth box from my car. it started with my right fingers. In the morning i was waking up with no feeling and i literally had to pump my fingers to get feeling back then it went up my arm and down my chest into my right leg that has started swelling up. I feel strange sensation when i use my ipad in my car that is tethered to my cell phone for data a heavy ness in my heart and palpitation and even like a electric shock from static electricity in my chest. I checked the SAR (specific absorption Rate) from my cell phone that i purchased six months ago it was 1.75 rated at the highest for SAR value emissions. I also found that Electro Magetic Frequency radiation is cumulative so your body is getting charged all the time and it accumulates when you are using a wireless mouse or ipad or iphone. etc continuing to effect you in a negative way. Doctors are ignoring my lymphedema and telling me it due to my veins and sending me for vein stripping. What do i do?
You may be onto something here.i use my cell phone alot and have gotten worse swelling in legs and numbness in hands..I wish someone would research this..I'm sure we aren't the only ones
My doctors say if I. Lose weight...it will solve all my health problems...how do I do this when I am in so much pain from arthritis and am astmatic??? I've had physical therapy and they say they can't help me...because I also have rapid heart beat ( tachycardia) and they are afraid I'll have a heart attack...so between breathing..heart rate..and pain..I'm stuck,!!!! Anyone have any answers??
you're probably just hyperfocused on this as you've already convinced yourself that this is the cause. leave the 'research' to the scientists. they aren't trying to kill you
Jeannette, If you spend much time in your car, you could also be feeling the effects of plasticizers and other chemicals off-gassed by the car's plastic parts. Ever wonder where that greasy film that accumulates on the inside of the windows came from?
I'm no doctor watching this but I have been trying to do research my husband got a kidney transplant and has had to do cancer treatment because his kidney was rejecting and apart of the treatment to save the kidney he had cancer medication given to him to help save it, & until this video i have some answers, kidney transplant team have had no answers for my husdand who is only 45 about why only his left leg and ankle has been huge, with Edema
I have been diagnosed with primary lipedema and secondary lymphedema, in both legs and my trunk. The size of my legs are pretty big, with protruding lumps under both frontal knees that cannot be brought down in size because they have turned into scar tissue (?). They are hard to the touch. I have always had begge r legs than normal, it nothing like this, which developed after bariatric surgery for weight loss.(?). Of course, now I have gained all the weight back because of my lack of mobility due to pain. Any thoughts on my problems? I have done Manila drainage and wrapping to no avail…well maybe 10% reduction.
I don’t know if this will help you. I am being treated for lymphedema, but I am sure that also have lipedema also. I too was very overweight. I wanted bariatric surgery, but was told I was not healthy enough, no specifics were given. I do not have the scar tissue you mentioned. I also suffered from tremendous pain. I only had temp relief from wrapping. I did a lot of online researching for recommended dietary changes & followed those recommendations with amazing results when I believed there was no hope. I had nothing to lose as nothing else worked. I followed a low carb/ keto diet. Slowly the weight & excess fluid started coming off. When my weight came to a stand still, I got frustrated & switched to a carnivore diet. You also can’t eat anything with food additives, or sugar, artificial sweetners etc. I started to lose again. If I cheat on one cotton picking thing, the next day my legs will show the excess swelling. It has taken 1& 1/2 yrs of being very conscientious with food to lose 87 lbs. sometimes I would go a mo & not lose anything. I now eat primarily a carnivore diet, which is all meat. Once in a while I have a sm amt of very low carb veggie. My lab work has improved tremendously, everything is better & my Dr wants me to continue with it. I am diabetic & I am now so well controlled I could go without my meds, but if I ever cheat my blood sugar would go right up again. I still need to wear support hose all the time. But the very best thing of all is my pain level has drastically improved. I can be much more active than I was a long time ago. I am working on rebuilding the muscle I lost from yrs of sitting around in horrible pain. I can walk much better, but still have along way to go. I used to be in so much pain I could hardly make it from the couch to the bathroom & back. It was my whole life, I did not want to live anymore it was so horrible. Now I do many things I haven’t done in yrs. I only take an occasional arthritis strength Tylenol. The swelling is much decreased in my legs. I have 100 more lbs to lose, who knows , I might feel even better at that point. Trying to find a Dr with all the answers is doubtful unless you are lucky enough to live in just the right place. There are no specialists in the three surrounding states where I live. I had to do my own research. Amazingly Pinterest got me started with the right web sites for really good info.❤ on TH-cam Sturdy woman, was helpful, and so many others, have real good info. You have to do your own research. Sadly, the medical world in general, needs to drastically improve research & education on this illness. Get a notebook, start writing notes, web sites etc. The best beginner, user friendly info I found on Pinterest. Much is written as by women for women. I did not find very helpful info just going on google. I have volumes of notes, way too much to pass on here. Good luck. The more you study the better off you will be.
I literally had a physical therapist tell me: "it's a good thing I got lymphedema, that's it's a blessing in disguise". I couldn't believe what I was hearing...
The reason why Doctors only get around 15-30 minutes of acknowledgement to the lymphatic function is because the lymphatic function is the body's detoxification of its immune system. If the bodies detoxification system is working properly then its immune systems are working properly and if your healthy as ever, due in result of these properly working systems and functions, then you'll have almost no need to seek out doctors as much as we do now. A healthy functional Lymphatic system in a doctors patients is a journey for a skinny wallet and very expensive student loans that'll need one hell of an obese wallet to pay them off. Lol
I believe i have this disordered disease. Help!!! Swelling of both legs if visit around after being off work for two to three days, stinging of hands and stomach upsets. Also border line diebetic, fat in my blood.
Could this be 1 person's view or a viable option to explain the condition ? ... Is there any follow-up reading or exploration of this potential explanation? What to do about it if it is valid-point ?
Extremely common but way too expensive for most Americans to be able to afford t cano have treated. No wonder health insurance is also out of reach for so many ways workers wirh like choice about accepting jobs which cause this condition.
I assumed the doctors knew what they were doing!!!!! They did not!!! And I am tithe one who suffers the consequences!!! They march into the sunset happy as a bug in the rug!!! Shame on them!! If you don’t know what you are doing just admit you don’t!!! I have had doctors!!
Since I 2as wrongfully injected with neuroleptics I get it premenstrualy potassium does help. But risk overdose is there. I found a Dr in Germany on here who treats it by liposuction it works well. He got what looked like 10l offa a woman's body! I got compression garments two weeks before my daughter was born. 🥴😞Neuroleptics damage pituatory etc.
After having treatment of DEC in filariasis, detected at early stage with very very little swelling in both the legs (below knees). Can dead adult worm (parasites) be removed from lymphetic system. If yes how??? By vascular sort of surgery or by other mean???
Found out this is what’s wrong with me . So painful in my side of face neck ear down under collar bone and around to the back of my neck and down into my shoulder and down under arm pit and runs down into my chest and into the stomach and bowels. I was told I had to live with the pain because is was my jaw joint .... They were wrong my daughter who is in medicine told me lymphatic was probably the problem. Is there’s a good Doctor in WV who deals with this problem of lymphatic ......
Crestor is bee ess. Will cause dementia. Cholesterol comes in to save the day to patch up inflammation in the body. Stupid Drs refuse to learn the baid side effects from cholesterol lowering medications Pharma and most Drs are in it for the paycheck. They cause disease and get rewarded financially by crippling their patients.
Mouse models do nothing for us it is actually disturbing to see a mouse undergo this testing. It would be better to use the actual human structure instead of a specimen that is not human.
@@mangos2888 I suffer from Chronic Acquired Bilateral Lymphedema of the Lower Limbs. Left Leg & Right Leg I’ve had this for about ten years now…. The right leg swelled up first and the left leg remained normal size for about two years or so, then it began to swell “After a sprain of my left ankle “I was walking down the sidewalk at a college, and my left foot went off the concrete and onto the grass. There’s like a the sidewalk was in the middle of the grass so each side of the sidewalk had a dip, or I fall into the grass, and I didn’t pay attention, and that’s when my left ankle bent really bad and shortly after that, I began to swell at my both my feet and toes are also swollen. I have not had any treatment for this with a compression wraps or anything like that because my doctor has ordered me to add physical therapy but they’re so backlogged and it’s been. I’ll wait for the appointment but then something comes up and I won’t go to the appointment or I get discouraged and that’s happened over the years since I’ve had it so my legs are discontinued to get big I can barely fit into shoes. My feet are actually beginning to deform, I’m having trouble with my toenails they’re growing up and under into my skin but I do take care of them but they are ugly. I’m noticing changes anyways I tell you all this because I want you to know that I am insufferable and Fatima I’ve had three doctors my last doctor. I told me that he was going to do a deep by a dive into my medical file and possibly add get to the bottom of what I have, and he was asking me questions if I ever left a country horse that was screening for that Solaris or whatever and I said no and him, I did have a blue nevus mole removed on my right foot years and years ago but I told him that and he’s like are you sure and I was like I have not been out of the country so he says OK well I will read up on this and I’ll do a deep dive and I have our next appointment. I should have some answers and test for you well the next appointment came and the doctor acted like he didn’t say anything to me didn’t remember that he told me he was gonna do a deep dive, and basically was asking me the same questions over and over again and thinking that I was had a parasite so I left him and I went into Internal Medicine my current doctor on our very first appointment. She looked at me and she told me John I don’t know much about lymphedema OK well I decided to stay with her because her and her husband are both doctors. She worked in the emergency department before she came to doing private practice or working in Internal Medicine so I was assuming she’s very smart but she is not treating my pain. I’ve never asked for treatment of pain I’ve dealt with it I have neuropathy under my feet on the bottom of my feet so it feels like I’m constantly on fire. I’ve asked her to treat my discomfort as she goes out will just go to your physical therapy for lymphedema and that will help with your discomfort and take ibuprofen and take your gabapentin. I asked her I said I’m really suffering bad can you read up on lymphedema to know that patients are suffering like sometimes even worse than cancer and I’m saying the pain is that bad I have gotten to the point where if I sit down for longer than 10 minutes once I stand up I’m in excruciating pain and I must stay still for a few minutes before I even take a first step and taking that first step hurts because my ankles feel like they’re just gonna rip apart and as I get going it hurts it hurts it hurts and it lets up and then all the sudden I’m able to walk a little bit, but I waddle don’t walk. What else can I say I am I’m concerned about the lymphedema because I also have a long-term iron deficiency anemia and I don’t know why my body is gotten into this mold I did survive septic shock back in 2018 of November 2018 and ever since the septic shock I’ve had problems keeping potassium magnesium absorbing I have low red blood cells they keep dropping with every test that we take. My doctor thinks to get a colonoscopy but I think it’s goes back to that septic shock thing anyways I know this is a long long message cheese I would like to know, do you have does a person live a normal life like at age wise with lymphedema or should I expect to be getting very sick and passing soon because I’ve also had multiple cellulitis infections lately and wounds that are refusing to close, I am really scared and I my doctor doesn’t know much about lymphedema and she also said that my insurance was not a good insurance it because it was state Medicaid insurance she says oh that’s not good insurance and I feel like I’m not getting good care because of that as well and I’m just wondering what should I say to my doctor and well I live a normal life continuing to have this or I don’t know what I’m trying to say, but the anemia and the lymphedema and all that it’s really becoming debilitating and I just I am well I live in normal life or am I expecting to pass soon within the next couple years or these top septic shock or sepsis again I guess that’s what I’m trying to ask and how can I possibly try to heal what I have? Because if I keep my legs up fluid empties in my legs, do get smaller, but it’s in my toes. My toes are extremely swollen. My feet are swollen there to farming now. Yeah so sad I’m just a mess. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

All you need is celery juice. Pure, one ingredient celery juice. Contains a salt that breaks up the lymph blockage and clears it.
On a positive note this physician is by far the most educated physician in lymphedema I’ve ever seen. A rare breed of physician we need more like him!
Agreed!
He’s my doctor 😊
Also he is great friends with Kathy Bates ( actor) who has suffered from lymphedema for a long time.

Cleveland Clinic therapy 3 weeks wraps, garments, pump, exercises, etc.
Thank you so much doctor . You did a good job. God bless you . I learn a lot from this .
Amazing! Thank you for this very helpful information.
I have been dealing with lymphedema for 3 years now
I sure would like to know where the surveillance of our vector population is that would substantiate the claims of our medical system that filariasis is not possible here. We have all of the associated diseases and very compatible vectors and yet our livestock and our pets are the only ones that are examined for parasitic sources and treated humanely without high morbidity rates. The WHO, CDC, IDSA, and the NIH need to add citations to relevant up to date vector surveillance data.
are you able to standardize your evaluation so other doctors can help oversee therapies by PT?
Eating outside makes the swelling much worse.
Laying down makes my kidneys work.
Go straight to the point of discussions. So many talkies spent, don't understand

Great intro to lymphedema care. Thank you.
Super smart guy. Great presentation.
Thanks I really took in a bit of knowledge I learned a bit more of edema.
Sir can you please tell if manual drainage and pneumatic compression therapy can be done for lymphedema due to filariasis & under what conditions??
My valves no longer work in my left lower leg because of sepsis when pregnant with twins at 42.
I now have sciatica in left hip.
Senior Centers and park districts are closed and I am getting fatter. Moving hurts and standing is worse.
Simply super!
great talk,thanks❤
Omg.. Me too
Sounds like a blood clot. I recommend to get ultrasound and if that's the case you might need a clot dessolving meds or some medical attention.
@@leak7161 I think it actually was clots because I was also having clots during my time of month since. I began taking a aspirin and it resolved.
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
I am being held hostage in a rehab for lymphedema patients. Most people do not know why they are here. Drug testing for other pharmaceuticals are freely done. Women receive blood thinners that turn into waltz that Make the skin bleed. This should be considered dangerous and a crime.
Are you still a hostage??
Who are you ? How are you? WHERE ARE YOU? Have you been able to get relief? ETC.
@@carollong7941 Finally got back home! Not free of Doctors but the ones I have now seem more ethical.
I continue to watch what they're doing and asking questions if I don't believe that what they're doing and is correct. The sushi that
Doctors of today, they misdiagnosis &surpass this and it's an everyday drive of circulation

Try FLAT-WEAVE compression garments instead of round-weave ones. The flat-weave are the only ones that I can wear because they have not dug into me.
Talk to your lymphedema therapist (PT) about getting fit for a flat-weave garment. Most likely it will have to be a custom-made special order.
ok this may sound crazy to you but I believe i acquired secondary lymphedema via the high cumulative radiation from my cell phone , ipad and blue tooth box from my car. it started with my right fingers.
@jeannette k your correct, just wait till 5g comes out. Research that. Will put you on your toes. Sucks the world we live in want this for us.
you're probably just hyperfocused on this as you've already convinced yourself that this is the cause. leave the 'research' to the scientists. they aren't trying to kill you
Jeannette, If you spend much time in your car, you could also be feeling the effects of plasticizers and other chemicals off-gassed by the car's plastic parts.
Did they give him methotrexate?
My cousin has congenital lymphodma. Please help for surgery
I literally had a physical therapist tell me: "it's a good thing I got lymphedema, that's it's a blessing in disguise". I couldn't believe what I was hearing...
Dr Rockson said he was starting clinical trials on a medication but this is six years old. Does anyone know the current status on FDA approval?
Also border line diebetic, fat in my blood.

... can lymphedema be brought on from exposure to toxic mold resulting in a respiratory issue ... ?
Could this be 1 person's view or a viable option to explain the condition ? ... Is there any follow-up reading or exploration of this potential explanation? What to do about it if it is valid-point ?
Extremely common but way too expensive for most Americans to be able to afford t cano have treated. No wonder health insurance is also out of reach for so many ways workers wirh like choice about accepting jobs which cause this condition.
what is the drug used for treatment ? in lecture near 49;01 ?
ketoprofen, an NSAID

So painful in my side of face neck ear down under collar bone and around to the back of my neck and down into my shoulder and down under arm pit and runs down into my chest and into the stomach and bowels. I was told I had to live with the pain because is was my jaw joint .... They were wrong my daughter who is in medicine told me lymphatic was probably the problem. Hi
Is there a medicine that helps. I was given Plavix and 20 Mg. Crestor
Where is it edema??? Hands or feet or neck??
@@sanarehman2440 it is in feet and legs.
@@dellario6793 I have edema on one leg, and I noticed when I ate lots of garlic pasta, that it went away!! So try to eat garlic more.

Edema is not Latin word. It is Greek: From Ancient Greek οἴδημα (oídēma, “swelling”), from οἰδέω (oidéō, “I swell”)
Thank you!
Ευχαριστώ!!
Who cares...latin, greek, polish, swedish
Edema is edema!!!!

Creating problems and then finding solutions whilst destroting the planet is not cool.

Why always a drug?
Happiness is all I see right now am totally free from lymphedema thank you so much 🥰 DRIFAHOME
