  • Can the Nike Alphafly 3 prove it works for me as an everyday runner? It has been a shoe that has not worked for me since I bought it so I thought I would give it one more go by taking along to a 10k race in London to see if it works when running faster than marathon pace!

    I just ran a 2:47 marathon and qualified for Boston in the Proto version. I had horrible arch issues in the alphafly 2, but this one didnt give me any issues at all over the 42.2. I liked it so much I bought two more pairs (one to mix in for speed work and marathon effort training to slot in with my protos now) and a fresh pair to keep for the fall for my next marathon. Personally I found this the best shoe I've ever worn.

    I swear by the alphas, since injury ive been such slower and im definitely an average runner but i find them amazing and did back to back PBs in the 1s. Whereas my partner is currently training for a sub 2:30 marathon and prefers the vapors, yet on paper/according to everyones reviews, he'd be better with these. I just think everyone is different and if the shoe works for you, it doesnt matter what pace you run. I think the 3s will be my london marathon shoe and i can't wait 😁
    Also, you said to comment if you can run under 7 minute miles for a marathon, so my partner Stuart is a hero to you, il comment on his behalf 😂😂
    Good to see you at Brueton parkrun.

    Great video Chris, I wore mine last Sunday for my second fastest ever half marathon (1.34.10) and they worked like a dream, no arch issues whatsoever and could hold faster than my original goal pace (7.10/mile against 7.30/mile) with ease. Absolutely love them and think they are the best shoe since the original Vaporfly Next% V.1. The lighter weight makes it even better than the Vaporfly V.3 for me!

    I’ve only wore supershoes for the first time a month ago and they’ve been a revelation. I have a pair of the saucony endorphin pro 3’s and they seem to propel me forward, when nearing the 6min a mile pace they really come alive. I do agree though that they’re slightly pointless unless you’re running fast, the harder you hit your front foot the more energy return you seem to get. For me I don’t think they’re a suitable shoe for the marathon distance for the majority of runners, and I include myself in this. I I would rather run in a more comfortable shoe in any distance over a half than these.

      I'm 7:12 pace for my last Marathon in the Endorphin Elite. Just purchased my 2nd pair of them for £171.58 🙂 Best Marathon Shoe out there for me. My 5k and 10k PB's are in Alphafly v1 but I sold them after running 3 x PB's in just 39 miles in them due to the arch issue and wouldn't look at an Alphafly or Vaporfly again while there are still arch concerns. A shame as it was a shoe that otherwise worked well for me but even a 10k + WU and CD were a struggle in it.
      Hoping that the Elites will help my aging legs get down to 7:05 and then Sub 7 minute mile MP over the coming year or two.

Anyway, did another session, wu and 6 x 3 mins @ 6 min per mile, then 5 miles @ marathon pace around 6.35 per mile and it was pretty effortless and you’re right about getting in the rhythm. That’s a really honest review and agree with you that for the majority of these super shoes to get the most benefits you have to be running around 7min/miles. You can of course run slower and lots of people will but are you getting the full benefits out of them? Maybe a friendly super shoe review(you’ve probably done one 23🙈) for 2024 later on in the year after a few releases that not so fast runners will benefit from.

AF3 on your comments probably won’t work, my adidas pro 3s are good but can’t trust the upper with big toe blisters, don’t think the saucony pro 4 is going to be that much better than pro 3, and I reckon will be a little bit heavier, so can see myself bagging another pair of saucony pro 3s at discount after the 4s come out.

    It's too bad the AF V3 doesn't work for you. It's been amazing for me. Been rotating through my AF V1, V2 and V3 on similar treadmill sessions to really see how it feels. And I'm in complete love with the shoe. I still love the AF V2, but it's just too much shoe for the full marathon as I start to lose my form in the last 10k. AF V1 was even worse, a calf killer in the last 5k. But the difference in smoothness, stability and general overall weight just makes the AF V3 sing for me. And comfortable....WOW. It's like the shoe was made for my specific feet. And I have never experienced any arch issues in any version of the AF.

    Why keep using a shoe you know isn't working? Just sell them and move on. You've said multiple times the adidas pro 3 work with no issues.
    People seem to want to be in the nike club as if they do something special when if you look at the wider picture they haven't done much bar the vaporfly 2 that was very popular and kipchoge winning marathons in the alphafly. There's too many good shoes available to be trying to justify a shoe that causes any issue.

    • @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics
      @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is definitely a lot of that which is going on. Kipchoge ran WR and Sub 2 (Vienna marketing stunt) in Alpha v1 and Kiptum broke Kipchoge's WR in the Alpha 3. That has absolutely nothing to do with all of the finances that NIKE throws at the top athletes though 😂 I have just picked up a 2nd pair of Endorphin Elites (the most comfortable and quickest Marathon shoe that I have ever worn which will go well across all distances) for £171.58
      A shoe which was high in price and that has only come in very limited colourways + Saucony obviously don't have the NIKE or adidas marketing budgets and sponsorship deals, but it's an absolute banger that has passed most people by (especially when available at under £200 and has had no discomfort criticism in any reviews other than some saying that it's a little firm compared to the Pro 3). The Endorphin Elite is light years ahead of the Endorphin Pro 3 and what the Pro 4 will be. Saucony Pro 3 is a good training shoe, it's the only shoe that I have ever bought 3 pairs of. I raced one Marathon in them but I wouldn't choose them as my first choice (or even 2nd choice) race shoe at any distance these days. Still worth snapping up for many when they can be picked up around £130 though as are the adidas Pro 3 (another shoe I have in rotation but use as a tempo/internal training shoe only).
      I think that it's madness to currently be buying any new shoes that are £250+ when there hasn't been any new tech added which can distinguish them as being something entirely new and unavailable elsewhere (so maybe worth a try). There's just too many good shoes available which have been out for 6 to 12+ months available on cut price deals these days.

    • @kevinclark5086
      @kevinclark5086 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics I think Fordy tried the endorphin elite and didn't think he could run fast enough in that shoe either. Ive never tried the saucony pro 3 or the elite, I didn't really think too much of the speed 3 so I went with the adidas pro 3. I ran the NB elite v2 before that.
      Will be waiting to see what adidas pro 4 is like later this year for my next change.

    • @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics
      @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I sold on the Alphafly v1 after running just 39 miles in it. I paid between £160 and £175 I think and almost got my full money back for them. I had ran 5k, 10k and 5 mile PB's in them over those 39 miles and they are still my PB's over those distances to this day but I hated running even 10k distance + WU and CD in them due to the arch issues and that's why they had to go. I usually want a race shoe to be good for Marathon distance and I would certainly want it to give me no problems at Half or 10k distance.
      I invested what I got back from selling the Alphafly v1 on the first edition of the Metaspeed Sky - a shoe which I still like better than the Sky+ and a shoe which my Half Marathon PB is still in (I also ran what was at the time a Marathon PB at Riga 2022 in them).
      I probably did the righ thingt to get rid of the Alpha v1 but if I could have them back now and they helped me to knock a few more seconds off my 10k time then all would be forgiven (almost) 😂 Although I haven't run a 10k yet in my Elites and have confidence that they can help me to do that 🙂

      @@kevinclark5086 Yes I had the New Balance RC Elite v2 and that was a lovely shoe. I still enjoy the odd run in it now even though my pair has close to 500 miles on them and are pretty dead. The SC Elite v4 looks like a nice shoe that I would like to try but I won't touch it for at least another year or so until it crashes to under £200 in price.
      Will be interesting to see what adidas do with their pro 4 as it could be an absolute banger!! I sublimate slightly and the pro 3 feels a little unsteady in the heel to me especially if I am not on it. The Endorphin Elite is a smooth as..
      I think that you know if you are on to a winning shoe for you. The shoe will let you know and say that it feels great each time that you put it on across any pace or distance.

      @MarkSmith_Best-Athletics all my pb's are in adidas pro 3. Like you I had the alphafly 1 but the arch killed me so I sold them.
      I'd rather have comfort over a few seconds performance personally. Although the alphafly 1 didn't really feel like it was giving me anything any other carbon shoe couldn't.
