Hey bsd! How are you! You are going to love how simple this is! On the Singer 411G at the top of the stitch selector knob; that plastic cover has a notch in the plastic! Pull back on that with your fingernail; the plastic stitch selector knob cover will come off and there are 2 screws now revealed. I haven't undone those 2 screws on my 411G but I will today. On the 401A the cover is not there. The 2 screws are obvious. Check out my last 2 or 3 video's; I take the whole thing apart on a Singer 500 which should be the same. It may help. Have fun!
Hello there! I got one amazingly beautyful 431 at my local thriftshop here in Stockholm Sweden, last week just for the look of it. It didn´t work -so I opened it up an got rid of all the junk inside and oiled it up a bit. Now it goes like a real heavy glider :) Maybe i don´t have to open the motor then if it works just fine?

Hello Jebb I have a very similar machine have been restoring it 411G I have a problem you may have information to help. I cannot for the life of me work out how to remove the selector knobs without completely disassembling the entire upper mechanism. I need to tighten the set screw for the outer knob but to do that I need to get them out. I am really stuck. Are you able to help at all?
