RAN Sailing...one of those channels where you hit the like button before you've watched the video. BC looks like the place i could spend the rest of my life.
Your comments on the reality of life are always on the point. People up high sould sometimes look down, at the life and struggle of salmons, as a metaphore of human life on this unique planet. From Italy.
Dear Marlin and Johan, about 2 weeks ago I found your channel and now I have reached this episode #130. It’s really great to see the sailing world through your eyes, You have certainly opened mine to many different places especially Alaska. I will add it to my list! I look forward to catching up to RAN II and Vera!! All the best Richard 👍🇬🇧
We are also glad you chose to take the trip north to AK & BC as you stated Johan. It has been a special experience for us seeing it thru your eyes because we feel the appreciation you both have for this beautiful part of our planet. You don't have to be a sailing fanatic to love the videos you've shared with us. Big thanks and enjoy your time in Sweden over the holidays!!!
Welcome to Canada and your introduction to the Earth Shattering, Blood Sucking, Legendary, Egg-Laying, Famous Carnivore Killers...... The Canadian Black Fly. And don't be fooled by the cuteness of the harbour seal, they are nasty little creatures.
Thank you guys for giving us all so much pleasure with your great videos. A small suggestion: please do a video on your boat Ran. You never say who designed her, what brand she is, specifications, etc. The boat is just as important to us, as you are...
Your films have been consistently brilliant from the beginning you have never wavered from your balanced format and they are a pleasure to watch. Thanks for making a year of great Friday viewing...coupled with that of Sea Dog of course!
Absolutely beautiful. The up-slope fog really made the transition of water to mountain something spectacular. I wish you had left the camera on the beach to capture the bears feeding, of course the battery would have exhausted itself. Thanks for the adventure, want to add it to the bucket list.
Thanks so much for this. You are absolutely right when you say that we have lost touch with nature. It’s actually called Nature Deficit Disorder, and it’s getting worse as more screens are made. Part of my hope and dream is to take families out into nature and do away with the screen while sailing. Thank you for another awesome video. Bryan from Vancouver
What an incredible experience you two had with that harbour seal! Such unusual behavior! I have seen footage of them jumping onto boats to evade orcas as you noted, but that one sure looked like it was just relaxing! Maybe some orcas were hiding around the corner??? Great video all around.
To avoid rolling when motorsailing and there is little to no wind, I have found that sheeting the main hard over with the traveller to one side simulates sailing close-hauled. The boat speed provides the wind. The result is a steadying sail which adds approximately 1 knot to your speed and little to no rolling. Try it.
Thank you Malin & Johan for another look at the north-west Pacific scenery... As always: BIG THUMBS UP and shared on diverse social media! Love the pace of your videos!
Your *_Anti-fog Spell_* turned out to be very effective. I felt sorry for the Salmon's tough life, but you drone-filmed it so well with the commentary I was riveted to the scene. In the end, the Black Bear wasn't greedy, just took what was needed from his "supermarket".
I too am glad that you sailed to Alaska and BC 'cause I've seen beautiful places that I may never get to see again.....thank you Malin and Johan for the awesome experience!!
What an amazing journey, thank you for sharing. Your videos bring peace and connection with nature. With all your respect, listening to your voices and looking at your demeanor, it feels something spiritual, pure and peaceful. Thank you guys for sharing. Buen Camino.
Beautiful! My wife and I have been following you for sone time now. And your in our area now . . . Washington State! Have loved watching all of the Alaska travels. My wife wants to go.
Please get to your dingy faster next time we almost had a heart attack lol 😆. Thank you for bringing your beautiful experience to an older couple in Houston, TX. Y’all be safe and we look forward to You’re next adventure ! Liz & Matt
I think those biting flies are called "horseflies". I understand they do take a piece of meat from you when they bite. Another nasty insect is the "white socks"- they look like little flies but have white feet, They lay eggs when they bite and most people have significant to bad reactions to the bite. They itch like crazy and usually I will scratch till I bleed trying to get rid of the eggs. Then you can heal up quicker but it is best to not get bitten (using DEET or a mosquito net). Nice video-Thx!
AAWWwwwww. It's Friday and RAN is running on my computer. What a great way to start the weekend. Thanks Malin and Johan, I hope Canada treated you well - enjoy your travels. :-)
Reminds me of backpacking and rafting through the gates of theArctic on the North fork koyokuk River. We had a grizzly walking between our tents before sunset. Terrifying and fascinating all rolled into one. I'm remembering getting worried that all of the mosquitoes stinging me through my megabuck Goretex gear world poke enough holes to ruin the waterproof membrane. You guys are way smarter exploring the Northland by boat. I'm glad to see that yodelling works as well as endlessly saying "Hey bear !" 👍
Neither the horn nor the spray will save you if the wrong bear turns up. Just saying. Thanks for sharing another video of beautiful footage. Stay safe and fair winds.
What a pleasure to see your journey. Me im just a cruiser on a Narrowboat on the British canals my boat is 60 foot long bit of a handfull at 72 yrs but i enjoy it so much please keep going look forward to your next video regards (TH-cam The Old Git on the Cut) David x
" The wild life is so incredible here, happy to be here..."... they say totally panic between two clouds of carnivorous black flies jumping on them and grabbing a chunk of their skin. No doubt, we are facing real diplomats... :-) Seriously, thank you for that excellent footage, drone are taking all their sens when it's used in a intelligent way like you do.i'm discovering a part of my own country that i know so little...for now i hope. A wish you a warm welcome to Canada and the best for your actual and following adventures.
Another GREAT episode .. Our boat Catalina 380 Aisling is moored in Gibsons Marina,, I wish you would post the dates when these impeccable videos were shot .. May the wind blow your way..
Well I know you're already gone in real time but Bienvenue au Canada none the less. I found your channel and absolutely binged all of your videos in about two days a couple of weeks ago, just after your meetup here unfortunately. Well, hopefully I'll see you out there somewhere. Fair winds and blue skies!
Hi, Guys, Another masterpiece of production, Great video. You both look well-rested and healthy. Malin looks especially beautiful - her skin looks like cream, as we say in the States. Thanks for another excellent production.
Having grown up in Alaska and the Northwest (Bellingham, Seattle, Tacoma) ... and starting my sailing adventures in Los Angeles ... your stories are SO visually inviting and incredible. Every episode makes me want to sail to Hawaii, then north to Alaska, then make my way south. Thank you so much for sharing all that you have. Following on Instagram, I know what's coming and I can't wait. I hope when you make it to Southern California we can host you half as well as those in the north. xoxo
Awesome adventure with even more awesome people doing awesome things in an awesome way. Perfection. ,,,,,,/),,,,,,fair winds as always. Had I known all I needed for a stay on RAN was whiskers and a cute face I would have jumped on your stern miles ago.
I know everyone loves the tropical islands etc. but I think this may be one of the most beautiful places you have been.
While not ignoring the labors of sailing you manage to convey the serenity of it as well as the beauty around you. Always a treat.

Thanks for the kind words Richard! 😊
How spectacular, loved the seal too - I've always thought of them as 'Sea Dogs' since I was little, as their faces look so cute.
