RIP Nanci. One of my all-time favorites. She is very unique. One of a kind. Not only a lovely voice, but also an outstanding songwriter. Miss you already, Nanci.

Amen and well said Bob. She seemed like a classy lady. I loved her sense of humor and stories in her live performances. A beautiful voice and delivery that could make songs her own while still respecting the original song (Boots of Spanish Leather).
As a singer and songwriter for many years I have been blessed with enjoying Namcy's talent to this day I still cry at our loss and the beauty of her music. ItShe changed my durection in music and I am eternally grateful. RIP Nanct you are missed and koved
I've been reflecting this weekend on my memory of my first visit to Scotland in 1996, an amateur American folk radio DJ with a newfound infatuation for Celtic culture. I met a generous local (in Forfar, not far from you!) who told me how popular Country music was in the UK & Ireland. At first I was dismayed, to be honest. "Of all the American things to embrace, you've succumbed to THAT?!" But then he named Nanci Griffith as the main example, and I felt such relief. She was -- and always should be -- a stellar ambassador of Country, Folk, Americana...American music.
Since the 80s Nanci has walked beside me , helping me find a path with heart through her music. Thank you so much sweet angel. You've found that light beyond our woods.
Nanci was born on the 9th and I was born on the 15th 1953, she took TX AND I was California, its been a long time now, time came and went , she entered into heaven first , waiting my turn, seeing the great guitar , ACROSS the GREAT DIVIDE, WISH I HAD MY CHANCE TO SING THEM BEAUTIFUL SONGS NANCI, Bless your heaven now vicchristian
All her performances (all of them) Nanci sings from the inside out. It's not a superimposed performance, with emotions stamped onto the songs as an act... it's her really feeling--living--every line. Every word. And that's why she's one of the immortals.
The quintessential professional, with a sincerity and tenderness in her songwriting and voice that cannot be duplicated. May "she find some blackbird's wing and fly away to heaven..." Thank you Nanci. My life would have be so different without your music.
Rest in peace, Nanci. I hope you are happy and healthy again in the land across the Great Divide. With much love and gratitude for all the beautiful music.
Sad that we will never hear you live again, Nanci. You will always be heard in our home though. One of our favourite singers of all time. Beautiful voice, beautiful person and beautiful soul. Rest in peace Nanci with the Good Lord and all the angels.
I discovered her at a very difficult time in my life. Her songs were with me then, as I left half of my heart in Texas. Crying right now. Enjoying all her songs and legacy. Gone but not forgotten.
Beautiful lady indeed, RIP. So much talent and such a beautiful tone to her voice. I would listen to her all day. It was 20 years ago when I first heard her and her songs stuck with me.
She said in one of her songs that she was" Plain as plain can be" but that cant be further from the truth! She truly was a beautiful lady and a brilliant story teller !
God Bless Nancy Griffith. I discovered here in 1985, what Peace of a singer/ Song Writer. She Bless me though some Though Times in Life. Will see you in Heaven Nancy. Love you
I grew up listening to Nanci Griffith, my dad was a huge fan. I just recently found out the she passed away. I have always loved her music. And now that both my parents have passed about a yr & a 1/2 ago, her music holds a special place in my heart & I find myself listening to her all the time now...taking me back to all those times listening when I was kid. Thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with us Nanci & I know that you are singing with the angels.
It's April 29 2024 and my brother showed me this song this past weekend and as a rock musician I admire this song and style of guitar playing. Great song and songwriting that doesn't compare to todays music.
In 1966 I went to see Cream at my local concert hall in the UK with a group of friends, one being Patrick McInerney. Many years later the last concert I saw on 14th October 2001 in that same hall, shortly before they knocked it down, was Nancy Griffith & The Blue Moon Orchestra. Her drummer that night was Patrick, also known as Mac
I've seen Nanci twice. First time was at the Ram's Head Inn in Annapolis, MD. and her only accomnipant was Pete and Mora Kennedy. ( Even tho it's a very small venue, had a seat in the very back and could only see the top of her head.) Second time was at the famed Burchmere in Alexandria, and I made sure I got there when they opened the doors, and was lucky to be right up in front of the stage. She's a wonderful performer and I miss seeing her on the concert circuit. I spent my last year in the Air Force (1968) in Austin. I was only 21 years old, and little did I know that there was a young girl growing up in that town that 20 years later would be one of my half dozen favorite songwriters of all time. Much happiness, Nanci.
Glorious. Joint gold medals to Nanci for this version and to Kate Wolf, who wrote it and performed it beautifully, too. A lot of musical talent, taken from us far too soon.
Such a beautiful lady. Her songs will hold forever. I lived in Texas when she was starting out, but never knew of her until decades later. Thank you, Nanci, for leaving all that beautiful music. Rest in heaven.
Nanci gave a lot to me, as she had to so many others, by weaving her wondrous voice, melodies, and short-stories as songs into my heart. She was also noted for having others cover her songs, as she brought many a fortunate listener to hear songs by others, like this one, which they would not have heard by their originators. Nanci, a wondrous writer, performer, and producer of sound- RIP, Angel.
First heard Nanci on CMT here in England in 1993 with her song " The speed of the sound of loneliness" and was hooked and then set about collecting all her music! What a storyteller Nanci was! The best singer/ songwriter of them all ! She will be sadly missed!
I believe that one may have been written by John Prine. We lost him to that damn virus several months ago. Both were terrific talents, and are sorrowfully missed. :-(
This was the first song I heard Nanci sing & I was hooked. Singing in Heaven & at peace I have no doubt. RIP as you will be forever missed but not forgotten.
A masterpiece that touches the heart very very deeply.. Intense, deep, moving....beautiful, but how much... so much! Kate, and Nanci, Thanks very kindly...❤️ ❤️
