Glad you let your daughter play with this toy, my son always enjoyed my Big Bolt Construction Set when he was growing up

This is my all-around favorite Mego playset. I never had it as a kid but I can only imagine how it would served my Apes, my Heroes and my Trek figures. The fact that net still works so well after all these years makes it that much cooler.

Oh yeah this could have had tremendous cross over potential.

I'm really surprised that Mego never used the basic frame and design to create a super-villain lair.

that's awesome that you've held on to it all this time and let your daughter enjoy too ! i let my 2 boys play with some of my stuff too . i had a an original optimus prime G1 with trailer from 1984 i let them play with . i recently gave it to my now 35 year old son lol we used to play on my destroy the death star board game when they were young and have since given that to one of my boys lol i've always loved your content , takes me back to a time when i couldn't wait to get into the newest sears christmas catalog in the early 70's and drool over all the cool GI JOE adventure team stuff .

I remember re-arranging storage once and my boy liked to get into my toys when he could. I decided, rather than just keeping it all away or getting mad, to give him some. That got him into Lego.

I really wasn't into Planet of the Apes as a kid, so no, I never had this, but I was definitely aware of Mego's Apes line and this does look pretty darn cool. It wouldn't be into years later, when a local TV network showed the entire movie series, one at a time, on Sunday afternoons, for several months that I finally sat down and watched the Planet of the Apes films. Anyway, good review, very nice playset.

I had this play set in the 80'. Use to love playing with it. The only thing is i didnt have the planet of the apes figures. I used other action figures.

I wanted this set so badly when I was a kid. All I had was the Treehouse which got played with daily and was the hub of my superhero vs ape wars. I look back and imagine what kind of nefarious adventures my figures could have had if I had been lucky enough to have this set.

I had the Village playset, many fond memories. Funny I only had Galen and Urko. I never had a desire to get the astronauts. I did use my other Mego figures, Batman, Spiderman and Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. When my buddy came by he had the Hulk, and the Thing.

As a kid in the 70's, I loved Planet of the Apes and the Mego toyline, but was lucky just to get the figures. I remember the commercial for this and really wanted it, but it was beyond what I could pay. So I made one from cutting out a large box and some paint. It came out pretty good and I kept it for years. But I still wanted the actual playset. And it's still out of my price range.

I had that and loved it.Got it for my birthday and used it with all my mego's. The net trap was so fun. Got it at TRU in Jan 75

I would have loved this playset. Saw it in one of the Christmas catalogs but never in person.

Some family member got me this as a gift. I used it for a villain lair. As much as I disparage Mego products these days I gotta day that this thing was quite sturdy for being primarily cardboard and the net was well made and worked like a charm.

I never owned this as a kid but got a loose, mint and, complete set as an adult and, for a very low price. I kick myself for selling it. The prices on this set are crazy and they do not seem to come up on Ebay very much. One of the best playsets Mego ever made in my opinion.

Love your videos but something you said really stood out to me. Pinocchio Toys, it was a small family business in my town at the Midtown Mall. I think you may be near me. Anyway I am just watching this because I just picked up a POTA Peter Burke in great shape only missing his shoes for $30 bucks at a local comic shop. I am getting pulled back into Planet of the Apes. Loved them since I was a kid.

Aw Yeah, my dad was friends with Mr. Kruger who owned the company. They went to Toy fair together. I was raised in Whitby.

@@BrickMantooth that's very cool! I'm pretty sure his daughter opened a Pinocchio Toys up in Lindsay for a time as well in the mid 80s. Thanks for mentioning the store, what a great memory.

I had this set but never had any Planet of the Apes figures. It still was the foil of Micronauts and Star Wars figures for a year or so before I played it to death.

What a great playset! Why companies still don’t make cool playsets like this I’ll never know.

    • @BrickMantooth
      @BrickMantooth  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

There is a lot of imagination and love in this set. I know at least of one of the designers, Vinny Baiera, was a huge fan of the Planet of the Apes movies and I think it shows.

    • @DougPalumbo

Brick Mantooth, even for 3 3/4 figures, playsets like this would be cheap to produce. I know ReadySetz is doing something like this but way bigger. A folding travel playset like this or even the Mego Batcave scaled for 3 3/4 would be great! I think if kids played with action figures like we did in the 70’s/80’s, we might still have cool playsets!

These were all gone from the market by the time I started getting Trek and Superhero figures in or around 77’. I only ran into one kid that had an Ape figure. I knew what the show was but could never find these things in stores. They would have been great with Trek figures.

I remember begging my dad for this or at least a similar set in the same genre. He walked into a Canadian store called Consumers Distributing and out with a telescope for my brother. "They didn't have it..." he told me. To this day I doubt the truth behind that. Don't know what would have done with it anyway as I only had a Spock and Mcoy to use in it!

early 1970's I received the tree house for christmas w 3 ape figures and a mego horse over the yrs little by little I lost a piece at a time but the 2 items I was able to hold on to was the horse and zira ,so early 90's I started re building an apes collection and I managed to get all 4 playlets in the box mostly complete boxes in fine shape almost all the figures good part of them on cards and the new ones released about 10 yrs ago so Im very happy with my achievement ,Ive made video you might want to check it out
