- The ULEZ expansion has now come into force in every London Borough.
Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by The Independent’s Chief Political Commentator John Rentoul to discuss the move by London Major Sadiq Khan and the impact it could have on the general election.
Kevin says: “He is politically insane, it could topple him as Mayor and ruin Keir Starmer's chance.”
John adds: “It is not going to bring in any significant amount of cash” adding “I don't understand why he isn’t prioritising climate change.”

Mayor of London plans are pointless? By making regulations that stop people from travelling he will stop + slow down uk economic output by 95% 🎉? His net zero regulations is pointless without a new mayor of London uk will have economic crisis by winter. Uk can't afford eco warriors nutters ideologies. Better way's of helping people + fixing air conditions . Information proves bad air conditions in uk cities are down to many problems? Designed of building, hot conditions, dusts , natural materials. It will apply to everybody that moves goods around and people who drive vans full of tools to carry out all the work. So prices will shoot up regardless. Anyone who thinks this will stop at currently non-compliant cars is deluded. It'll eventually include all non EV's then if the numbers justify it, it'll start to include EV's as well.
When the prices go up the government wins through more tax......

Notice on the Julia Hartley-Brewer show someone posed the (brilliant) question. If Sadiq is seeking to “clean” London’s air why is he actually permitting non-compliant vehicles to even enter the ULEZ zones? So, if he is so keen on his aim then he would simply ban then - job done!!! If not, no beneficial impact on air quality can possibly be the outcome. The whole idea is, by definition, self defeating!

Why are we not talking about retro fitting these non Ulez compliant cars with filters? Surely it’s more environmentally friendly to keep an old car on the road rather than buy a new one??? And…. A lot cheaper! Sadiq has spent £250 million on cameras. This money could easily have been used to develop the technology for filters on cars and the roadside. If this really is about cleaning up air etc why are we not talking about London utilising more solar panels as well ??? Because it’s bullshit it’s a money grab scheme fact!

The only slight flaw in your macho argument is that the majority of Londoners support ULEZ and the polls suggest that Khan (the only decent candidate) will win again.
Do keep in mind that ULEZ was introduced by Johnson and in place when Khan took over. He has already won two elections with ULEZ in place.
We need to put all councils on notice that if they intend to push this through then they should be prepared to face the consequences of there actions.

The reason we can't all have an Electric cars is that the London fire Brigade won't be able the amount Electric Car fire's and Garages that can't be put out with thousands of gallons of water so we won't just have enough electricity on the electrical grid but also have a water shortage 365 days a year from the amount of EV fires that can't be put out !

The underground is at dangerous levels and even walking past a station the air quality goes dangerously high.
Why not make the underground more environment friendly along with planes & ships. That would help the air quality in London alone. Cars wouldn’t make any real difference which has been proven by the scientists. So the only reason is to make money from the people using cars around London.
