I remember when I played this for the first time, after getting completely destroyed for hours I found myself seeing a friendly NPCs getting attacked by stuff. I thought to myself "don't help... if that doesn't get them, something else will. Just wait for the fighting and loot what might be useful", this mod really makes you resort to some scummy things to make it through
Id honestly suggest not going permideath run for your first playthrough, Dust is fun but will start to scale hard in difficulty in a short period of time. Switch from cinematic vats when you get the chance to save you time and health in the long run. Other than that, look into some lootable car mods and the Retrievable Throwables Reforged mod, they help when you're hurting for supplies... a little. Other than that, hope you enjoy Dust to the fullest, it's a really worthwhile play outside the usual hardcore mode.
Kudos for the MATN shoutout. Since you both are literally my two favorite TH-camrs, you should now definitely do some kind of crossover. Maybe you should teach Jon how to play Frost properly 😂
@@waltbeasley5878 True! I still want to scream at my screen when I watch his Frost episode where he discovers Downtown, thinks that it had bugged out because of the empty inventories at night, leaves and never comes back again.

1:09:42 - You have nothing to lose by attempting to scrap the cutting board. Really, loot every junk item you come across, so you can ascertain which of them can be scrapped.
Oh hey you finally got to it, I remember you talking about it back when playing New Vegas. Goodluck! Also, it's weird that you start with all the packs. I bet Wandy has some good visual mods ready to go. Really, the shooting gameplay improved a lot with FO4, too, even if almost everything else regressed.
The combat in New Vegas makes it really hard to go back to for me. Even with mods to improve it aiming down sights is janky and inaccurate. You pretty much have to use VATS and I hate VATS. "Kill. Loot. Return." is the Fallout 4 meme but every Fallout has combat front and center as a main feature and New Vegas just did it poorly.
@@UristMicrocline idk i always found the combat fine. its fallout 3 that messes me up i need a mod just to get it half as stable as new vegas is. then again i like VATS and VATS is worthless garbage in FO4 which ruins the point of having a pip boy. also in New Vegas if ya got high enough Perception ya can snipe with a pistol long as they can be shown in VATS. hit VATS 0% to hit in VATS but aim for the head and fire manual with a pistol in stealth and have the kill cam every time blow their head off.

So excited for this. TH-cam somehow didn't notify me. My piece of unsolicited backseat gamer advice: built to destroy is bad enough in the base game, but for this mod, it is just an increase in difficulty. Especially early-mid game, before you get jury rigging. Pretty much all weapons you find are on the verge of breaking. Most enemies drop from 1-2 hits anyway, crit or not. And I swear that those 15% increased degradation feel more like 200%. That being said, a little more difficulty won't stop Wandy.
I always go for the "min/max" end game approach, even if that means making it hard for me in the early game. I always focus on the destination when planning a character, even though it probably hutrs me more in teh short term lol. Guess that's a character flaw.
Built to destroy will be interesting, slower firing but higher damage is the standard recommendation but it'll probably be fine as long as you go heavy into repair
If you want a good middle ground between permadeath and normal vanilla NV saving, I recommend the 'No Second Chances' mod, which has a selection of alternate methods of saving the game. My favorite is needing a pack of cigarettes to smoke to save the game, turning your game saves into another consumable resource! I used it for my own Dust playthrough and I died scared and alone in a dead end filled with corpses, so bereft of resources I had to give up entirely, 20 hours in. 10/10 mod for sure, no sarcasm
