But people won’t stop buying them, and most of the people buying these have no business doing so. I can’t imagine going into that kind of debt for a truck.
What's going to happen is they are going to scream and cry to the Biden Administration for a bailout and his administration will say yeah we will bail you out but we're going to need more rainbow colored electric dildo-mobiles on the road because of climate change.
I remember when you could go buy a new basic bare bones work truck from a dealership for 15k. The fact that trucks went into the luxury market and then became the focus is absurd. The used market for 20 year old trucks has skyrocketed because people need a truck to get things done but can't afford these new ones. It isn't just Chevy either but all the manufacturers.
I always roll my eyes when reading the list of "add-ons" that these trucks are marked up with. I don't give a good gosh dang about bluetooth this and hands-free that. How about you just keep your hands free of my wallet. Good Lord.
Why I'm still driving a 93 Dodge Dakota. No way would I pay 80 or 100 grand for a truck. A lot less to break down on older trucks also. And you can work on them yourself. I wouldn't even know where to begin working on one of these new trucks... Seems like they just want to take people off the road is the real goal to me. Why would you shoot yourself in the foot??? They must be drinking a lot of coffee and eating donuts at them dealers cause I see the same thing at them every week. Like nothing has moved or sold.
Pick up trucks now focusing on the luxury market is because most people buying these kinds of trucks don’t buy them for work or their utility. They buy them as life style trucks. Let’s be real here. If you’re buying a Silverado or F-150 that’s sitting at close to 100K, you’re not buying a work horse
I could really use a truck. As a homeowner it's great to have a truck haul stuff home from the stores and to take junk to the dump. But the thought of spending >50K on a truck is crazy. I have been walking away for years.
You should check if your car can fit a towing hitch. While they're not standard features, a lot of cars you wouldn't expect can, in fact, tow a small trailer. Admittedly, they're not very convenient, but it's certainly an option you can make work if you have the space to park it.
@@Bustermachine 100000% This. Got a Mazda 3, hitch, and trailer in 2008. All in just over 18k. 5 speed, so I've averaged 29 MPG over my 125k miles. So much cheaper and easier. I miss having a truck, but this new crap is so overpriced, I'll never go back.
@@Bustermachinethat’s what I do with my minivan. With a 12ft trailer I can carry more than what most trucks can do at tiny fraction of the price. I thought I was a genius when I came up with that idea
Mostly right, but I knew a couple of my friends' dads bought them as second vehicles. But even they wanted a bed that could haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood.
i really enjoy all the comments from the bustos who have no money to buy a new vehicle..so many of these "The dealer can't sell...crisis....blah...blah,,,blah.." videos on YT.....what y'all fail to realize is that the market sets the prices on these vehicles not the so called "greedy dealers". So that means there are plenty of people with the cash to buy these trucks at these prices. And yes they are selling. There are many high net worth people out there buying vehicles for cash...Just because you are a low wage earner and have no liquidity and drive a 1989 truck doesn't mean these trucks aren't moving...there are millions of high wage professional people and business owners who do have the $ ...my dad used to buy all his vehicles cash ....and purchased several six figure vehicles for cash ,,,and he taught me to do the same....if you don't have the money to buy just earn more and save more ..or just buy what u can afford...don't waste ur time coming on here saying "evil dealers...greedy...no one can afford these prices..." y'all just sound bitter and jealous...
@@goldgeologist5320 GM actually used to sell a WT, or work truck..... i believe that has been gone for some time. it would have crank windows, radio, and maybe AC but not much else
That’s why I’m still driving my 2011 GMC 1500. Saw one just the other day for sale same model/mileage as mine for the same price I paid for it back in 2012 with 6k miles on it.
There's 100+ reasons why... the technology, gimmicks and creature comforts. 10years ago a truck didnt have AC/Heated seats etc. In 2019 my moms Ram 1500 cost $5000 more than my Dads Ram 3500 Cummins 4x4 Quadcab Dually did in 2005... today you cant leave the lot with a Kia for under $35k
I asked a Gm vp about 15 years ago what the hell they were going to do when people can't afford to buy their products anymore. He acknowledged then that he could see it becoming a real problem.
I thought truck prices were nuts 8 years ago when you couldn't get anything but a stripped work truck for less than 40k. Today's prices are insane. I tried buying a bronco last year and the dealer refused to let me order anything less than 65k. They said they wouldn't be able to sell it quickly if I cancelled the order.

Inflation is a bi-h! Then don’t forget those crazy $100/hr union wages that assembled the hunk. Add a useless aftermarket “Fluff Package” at retail, and voila! There’s your $50k truck, selling for $100k.
Facts! They were screwing everyone with the chip shortages. Making tons of money raping consumers on prices. Now the party is over, but they haven't figured it out yet......but they will
Insane. Friend of mine bought a new 2019 Silverado. He is a maintenance guru and drove the truck as an adult. Transmission went out just outside the warranty after he paid truck off. I won't mention how expensive replacement was. He was beside himself with frustration having cared well for vehicle.
I live in Western Canada, home of the 100k vehicle not just the 100k truck. Drove by a large dealer with my girlfriend the other day and I pointed out the rows upon rows of 100k trucks. She asked me what I would pay for one I said about $35,000. She laughed and said, "that's a big difference." I responded with, "that's just how out of hand this has gotten." I don't need an economics degree (even though I have one) to see that this is NOT sustainable. This might end poorly for the unprepared. An absolute gold mine for people that are ready. Good luck to all, take care out there
Spent 35 years working in and managing big box auto dealerships before retiring 8 years ago. I am convinced the new car manufacturers have lost their collective minds.
No, they haven't lost their minds... They Enhanced the market for idiots.... I'm an automechanic so I have the luxury of repairs. I'll put 3 power trains in my current truck before. I spend that kind of money.
I went shopping for a pickup, and a Toyota dealership was my first stop. I was in total disbelief when I saw what the Tundra was going for. I then went to a local Chevy dealership and was totally traumatized by the asking price for the Silverado. I didn't dare go to the Ford and Ram (Dodge) dealerships. Today's pickup prices are insane!
I read an article a few months ago where two of the big three are trying to figure out a way to get rid of dealerships because the dealers are killing sales with the ridiculous prices. However they can't just come in and shut them down because dealerships are franchisees so that makes it tricky. Only a fool would spend that much money for something to get around in. I'll stick to my 97' GMC dually. It's paid for, easy to work on, extremely cheap to work on for a diesel and it's reliable as long as it's taken care of.
The dealer system is actually intertwined with certain federal laws. So yeah you can't just get rid of them, but then if you did you would end up like tesla who will raise and lower prices whenever they so choose and completely rip off their customers. The funny part is their customers don't understand they are getting ripped off because well they are true believers. There is no winning when it comes to car sales/buying.
New subscriber here. I left the US over a decade ago. Worked in Europe and Africa and now am living in Asia. This means I've been out of touch with vehicle pricing back home for quite a while. So, thanks for this, bud. GEEEEEEZ! $100K for a Chevy truck?? I had no idea it's gotten that insane over there. Unbelievable. As a comparison, here in the Philippines, you can buy a fully-loaded, brand new, 4x4 extended cab TOYOTA HI-LUX for under $36K! Did I mention it's a Hi-Lux? The world's best pick-up truck? (Americans might disagree with that--- but the rest of the world arrived at that conclusion decades ago.) At the lower end of the spectrum are the Ford Rangers' WildTrak and "Raptor" (not exactly a Raptor, though) which you can purchase brand new for a whopping----TADA!--- $24K. American consumers need to just boycott these trucks and SUVs. Less demand, blah, blah, blah. Good luck with the channel!
The US doesn't get the Hi-lux, they get the softer watered down Tacoma. A Hi-lux will beat the pants off any Chevy, Ford or Dodge. In my part of the world the cheapest vehicles in quality and price are ford's and Chevy.
Hey, thanks for sharing. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who sees prices like that and is outraged. Honestly, I would never spend that kind of money on something that only depreciates in value and these vehicles clearly are grossly overpriced! I agree, people should just stop buying them for a while.
i love how $500 worth of "add-ons" are some how priced at $1700. specifically the care and convenience packages. the sad thing is they wouldnt do it if people didnt buy it.
I remember back in 2003 when I was in Jr high my dad bought my mom an Escalade for $55,000, seemed like he bitched about the price for months after. My sister’s husband just bought her a 2023 Escalade and I think he paid more than double what my dad did. So yeah, In 20 years those vehicles have literally doubled in price.
They will never come down in price again. Just like gas, the price goes way up and comes down a little bit. Then that is the new norm. Just like we will never see gas at $2.50 a gallon again, we will never see a half ton truck for less than $50k again. And just like gas, nobody’s gonna boycott either. I work with people who’s entire perception of success is based on them buying a $100k+ diesel truck every couple years.
@@mxking317s How many people do you think can afford 100k+ trucks every two years? A very small percentage of the workforce has the income to do so. The minority doesn't dictate prices based on supply amd demand.
It’s really sad that a car payment is now like adding a second mortgage payment. On top of all of this, the reliability on these vehicles is crap. And it’s not minor issues. For $100,000 these things should be bullet proof
The absolute cheapest diesel on my local lot is $96k. If you put $10k down on a 5 year note that's $1700/mo. Not a lot of people can swing that for a truck.
This is why I’m driving a 20 year old truck and lovin’ it. 2004 Dodge 2500 quad cab with a high output 5.9 Cumins. Zero problems over the years, still looks and runs excellent! I paid $33 k, out the door brand new in 2004 and paid it off in five months. I’ve owned the truck outright for over 19 years. No way I would spend $100k for a similar new truck today! For $10k, I could freshen my truck up like new, and I will. I hope you manufactures read this because im sure there are plenty more guys like me out there today!
Really good, insightful, informative analysis. I just subscribed to your channel. I drive a 2018 Toyota Tundra. Bought it not long before COVID. Went on a Toyota lot the other day. Not only has Toyota made the engine in my truck (V-8) unavailable, they had a $10,000 markup on each new Tundra they had. I just smiled at the salesman, got in my truck and left. Apparently, I'm not the only one smiling and getting back into their current vehicle. Thanks again for posting. I look forward to more from you in the near future.

Big picture, trucks usually hold their value better but that doesn’t matter when they’re marked up 400% new. The used value is what these things are really worth brand new. I bought a brand new Silverado 20 years ago for $17,000. My how times have changed. Absolutely ridiculous. Trucks are not meant to be luxury vehicles. I’m never buying another new pickup. Screw them.
Just a few years ago this 100, 000 dollar truck was 40; 000 dollars. The dealerships went nuts on the fabrication of the chip shortage. They loved taken advantage of their greed. Now the tables have turned and people don't want them. Let them go out of business.
What sucks is if they do fail, the government will just bail them out like all the other times. It's garbage and they misuse tax money all the time to bail out greedy companies just like chevy and all the others.
Craziness!! I paid $52,000 for a brand new RAM Tradesman 3500 Cummins in 2017 and now that same truck is going for $76,000. That’s the base model!!! Don’t do drugs kids!!!
I don't know if you notice but the trend has been for manufacturers to build bigger at every redesign park anything from the 1980's next to its contemporary counterpart and you will see it, they get taller, wider, and longer every year, with the exception of truck bed size.
They can’t or more accurately refuse to build entry level vehicles anymore…their logic is “where else are we gonna hide and deceive a customer “ with all our overpriced phony fluff add on’s
Went to look at a Silverado back in late 2019 - was about $45k for the one I wanted. A few weeks ago, I went to look again - new model - but $61K for the exact same truck and options. 35% increase in about 3 model years. They can keep it.

NO.. blame the stealerships AND the banks who approved all these bad loans. The stealerships overinflated all the MSRPs and then added their own garbage addon stickers and all this started during the pandemic and it hasn’t stopped. What we all have to remember is these car stealerships have notes on the vehicles(floor plans) in their lots and just like our rates go up.. so do theirs and the longer the car sits the worse it gets for them also. @@XX-166Nonsense. It doesn’t take geniuses to figure out these trucks are overpriced. “Bad loans” sounds like they’re not even well qualifying buyers. And yet you blame someone else for taking advantage of idiots?
Been driving the same truck for over 20 years. Very few people can genuinely afford the financial hit of spending $100k on a depreciating asset. Many just think they can afford it if they can make the monthly payment. They don't understand the true cost.
I hear ya, My Trucks are 20 and 30 years old. Just spent 1200 each on them to update them with some new comforts. Without all this new crap tech they have today. Still have the comforts of it though. Like overhauled motor. Fuel injection. Air conditioning. Cameras. LED lights and GPS radio. Also on my older truck I just put after market electric windows on it. Plus Fabricated a window that rolls down in the back to access the bed easier when we have the camper shell on. It all looks like it came that way. That one got the 6 speed transmission Found in a junk yard and fixed it up for the old truck.
This is why I wait till my local dealer gets acouple trade ins 4-5 years old that there sending to auction because there 2 old for the lot. You buy them as is with no warranty but aslong as you get them checked out well you can get them pretty cheap
I worked at a truck dealership. I’m telling you right now on a $100,000 truck, the salesman will get paid $250, and an extra $100 if you complete a perfect customer service survey.
These truck manufactures are out of their minds and the dealers who are doing these expensive addons are insane. I remember this started with replacing the ugly Rims car manufactures used to put on vehicles, now it's turned into pimp my ride and finance me for 8 years.
In 2007 I purchased a Chevy Silverado W/T reg cab vortex 6 with a 5 speed. Brand new I paid 12,000$ just 6 months after that the dealership was selling a 4x4 crew cab for 20,000$ I will never again buy new.
Those trucks had a destination charge of $1900. Mary Barra should contact Tesla and ask them how they are able to ship their cars to every state for only $1300 destination charge. These dealers forgot to add $1000 for undercoating, $500 for nitrogen and $800 for ceramic coating. Don't forget the doc fee of $800. Gotta stick it to the buyer whenever you can, right?
Pickup trucks are heavier, bigger and longer than cars. The car haulers have to charge more to haul pickup trucks because they can't fit as many trucks on their truck as cars and they're heavier. Factor in the inflation and increased costs of running a semi truck and you have the $1300 destination charge.
A lot of people aren't aware that you could order a vehicle & pick it up at the factory to save some $$$ I'm not sure you can still do that because the manufacturer nowadays has to markup any & all things related to the sale of a vehicle
I've always driven sedans but about 5-6 years ago, I thought a truck would be good because my lifestyle changed. My dad always drove a truck but I've never bought one myself. I was SHOCKED at what they were asking for trucks. And again, that was 5-6 years ago. I thought they were overpriced then but it's gotten even MORE ridiculous since. As far as value goes, there isn't a $80-100K truck that exists. I know that's what some cost these days but that's not what they're actually worth.
Drove past a large Ford dealership in Ohio the other day and was blown away by the insane amount of pickup trucks on their lot. It was a rediculous amount! It was obvious to me that they aren't selling because they're extremely overpriced. You'd have to be stupid or just have money to burn to pay what they're asking.

Most I've ever paid for a truck is 38K. I'm not paying more for a vehicle than I paid for my first house. People are buying a payment to impress the Joneses and getting hammered on the depreciation. Fools and their money do soon part.
The first brand new car I bought was a 2006 F-150 for 38k. It was fully loaded and everyone couldn’t believe how expensive it was. I look at a new 2023 F-150 and its literally double the price. I couldn’t believe it. In 10 more years, im sure they will be selling between 150k to 190k.
Problem is people will still continue to pay these insane prices. Best thing we can do is ridicule people for paying these insane prices. Make them feel dumb for overpaying.
These truck prices are insane today. I am 63 years old and I bought a special order 1987 Ford F-150 XLT with every option in the book, 4WD, dual gas tanks, the best engine, and on and on. I even ordered it with special colors, metal flake silver and metal flake blue. The salesman I got it from said it was the best and highest price truck they ever sold. I paid a total of $15,200 for it, and the extra $200 was for a 6 year unlimited mileage bumper to bumper warranty. Yes it was $15,200, for the best truck you could get. I worked at a union printing factory with 300 employees and every guy there who had a truck was jealous of my truck. Today no truck should ever be more than $60,000, at the most. I sure would not pay $80,000, to $100,000 for a truck, ever.
That "USED" scheme you were talking about, I know a little about. The demand in the US was so high there for a while that you could buy a brand new truck here in Canada and drive them around for a while and then sell them back to the dealer, who would then export it to the US as a used vehicle. You would loose almost no money and get set up to buy another right away. Not many people get to take advantage of that though, as it's kind of an insider system.
Was just talking to my wife about that. My first house was 53k. I would actually stop driving all together and use public transportation before I pay 100k for a POS that will be in the junkyard in 15 years.
Exactly, they are usually just spacer and block lifts.....ive lifted more than a few and seen these on the lots and was shocked how much they were asking, and also seen some dudes buying them.....didn't have the heart to tell them they just got bent over backwards and Bama jammed.....
What this video didn't show is 2 rows back they had a rfull ow of regularly priced trucks for sale too. I bought my truck last summer from Randy Marion in Mooresville (which is where this was filmed btw) and got a great deal!
In 2003 I bought a Chevy S10 for $15000. I still have it because of this crap. I need a pickup but I can't buy one that costs more than my house. The automakers can't make small trucks anymore because EPA regs make it not worth it. K-trucks are going to become popular.
Was at a used car lot at the local Chevy dealer, they had a 2022 Ford Maverick XLT that had the non-hybrid engine, with 15k miles on it. They were asking $33k, the window sticker from the truck was in the glove box, it showed an MSRP of $23.9k. WTF?
Went truck shopping a couple months ago. Walked away in disbelief! I was actually outraged by the prices they were charging for trucks. Dealer tried telling me it’s not their fault so in front of him I built a Colorado trail boss online and showed him it costs 40k his was for sale for 53k same as I built on Chevy site. He just said if you don’t want it someone else will do I walked off the lot. Always been a Chevy guy but I’ll never shop there again
I feel your pain. In febi bought a used F150 4x4. Has almost everything I could need, MSRPwas $32k.. they had the balls to want to add $6k in add ons.. I told them I didn't want the ridiculous crap and not to put them on.. they said they couldn't and I didn't have to buy.. I managed to get them to take off $1700 from the crappy add-on's. I was ok with the deal because the previous owner had added gooseneck package, wheels n tires, and a few extras. In my opinion about $6k in added value for me who would have put that on anyhow. At the end of the day I agree with everyone.. this crap has to stop.. not everyone who buys a truck wants it just to look good and show off..
It's unfortunately not just a Chevy thing. Rams Fords and even Toyotas are all disgustingly expensive. Hell, my uncle recently bought a new Tundra for just under 84 grand. I didn't know whether to be impressed or smack him upside the head for encouraging this price gouging nonsense.
Worked at a Dealership for 13 years I’ve literally installed mud guards and wheels and the dealership adds on 10k it’s such horse shit. These guys work on commission that’s the problem with dealerships
I was going to buy a ford Maverick when they started hitting the lots, saw the +10K market adjustment and figured I'd wait it out. Here we are over a year later and even in the used market they're selling 7-10k above sticker, XL Hybrids included. It's not the cost, it's the principle of overpaying, the wastefulness that bothers me. For the time being I'll just keep drivin the 'ole 14mpg Ram
Trucks are more of a status symbol as they have gone from rubber floor covers to fully plush out. Like back in the 50s and 60s, the bigger the car, the more it looks like someone is doing well. It been going on for decades. These prices will never stop.
And the funny part is, these Rocky River conversions, are just rims and a cheap lift to make your truck look like a "bro truck", so then everyone will assume you're an asshole because "bro trucks" have a bit of a reputation for being driven by violent assholes.
It's insane. Just as insane is the used pickup truck market. I've seen 12 to 15 year old pick up trucks for the 150,000 miles have prices in the $20000 range. They should really be selling for 6 or 8 grand

Putting money in it is cheaper than doing anything else and the insurance is cheaper on an older vehicle. That's another thing that's out of hand, insurance prices. @@davidwickboldt712 That last part is especially true. And they're getting even bigger than the actual full size trucks of 20-30 years ago. A modern 2023 Dodge Ram dwarfs my first gen D-250 long bed when parked side by side.
I decided in 2007 that I would never buy another American vehicle again. After fourteen years of headaches and unnecessary expenses due to the degree of planned obsolescence baked into every overpriced American made vehicle and replacement parts, I had had enough. I bought a used Honda in 2008, and a new Honda seven years later. I gave my first Honda away to a friend who had just been through a nightmarish divorce and that Honda is still running great. My current Honda is paid off and trouble-free. I shudder when I imagine what the last fifteen years would have been like if I were still driving an American-made vehicle. I’d rather drive an old Honda truck than a brand new Ford or Chevy.

I remember around 2009 when we were deep into the recession, pickup trucks had been hyper inflated like today until the market crashed and they couldn't give them away. I think history is now repeating itself.
I bought a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Texas Edition 4 wheel drive extended cab short box brand new for $33,000 in 2009- Prices have more than doubled since. I still prefer Chevrolet but a coworker recently rented a Dodge Ram pickup while he was in Houston from New Orleans and kept mentioning how much he liked the Dodge Ram he was driving as we went to lunch….
The bottom line is that these "trucks" are NOT trucks. They're glitter and glitz. A "truck" with a five foot bed? $100,000 for a useless beast. If you want a truck buy used, buy old, and buy basic. Splurge only for 4-wheel drive, 3/4+ ton, and maybe a stretch cab to keep all your tools safe and out of the weather. Eight foot bed is by far the most useful.
Hey Man, Love your Video's, I sold Cars in the early 1990s, and again in the early 2000s in Reno, Nevada, Nissan, and Mercedes, did really well, today I see this stuff am I have no Clue what these people are thinking, I have eyes to see the New Car Market is in Serious Trouble, Dealerships are now facing having to close down, because of low or no sales, a Dealership cant survive selling 10 Vehicles a month, they did it to themselves, and now its time to face the Consequences for their Greed, Stupidity, and Arrogance ....
I was at a ford dealer for service abouit 6 months ago and the service manager I was talking to was just getting off work. He showed me an f150 with a conversion kit on it. Looked awesome. $52,000.00 MSRP before the conversion kit. $90,000.00 after conversion kit. He said it was approxematly $2,500.00 in parts and labor and they added approx. $40,000.00 to the price. He said it was the biggest ripoff the dealerships were doing. Sounds like the same tactic with Chevys.
I dont like the low quality bug invested crap they push out the door. I dont like the stealerships. It isn't all the manufacturers fault or greed. The government has forced mandatory EPA rules and safety regs on them. Higher miles per gallon requires expensive tech.
Way back in the day you could order a car or truck the way you wanted it. Is that true anymore? There's a guy on TH-cam who ordered a specific Tacoma that got wrecked prior to delivery. The Toyota Dealer gave him a new Truck, with upgrades, at the same price as the truck he ordered. He got a great deal! Does that sound even remotely possible?
@@kndvolk My experiences with Toyota in the past are pretty good. They make a decent product, although very generic, and they used to worry more about hi volume and keeping the customer happy albeit sometimes it seemed like herding cattle. His experience with the pickup could very well be true but I'd still like to see it. Would never happen with Ford or GMC.
The situation has gotten out of hand! When my Volvo lease was up early last year, I wanted a new truck, but the prices were ridiculous. Then GM announced the E Silverado work truck at a competitive price in the $40’s. I reserved one only to find out that price would not stick for long, even before they made a single one. I just found me a ten year old Escalade EXT (mid 20’s) instead and have been completely content. At my age I can remember when the avg cost of a home was about 125K and now that’s the cost of a truck! Go figure.
It’s ridiculous. My home I’m renting was built in 2018 for 301,000. Now it’s sitting at 586,000 and not a single thing was done to the home. Trying to get a home loan for these high priced houses is ridiculous
Here in Canada the trucks are such a theft magnet that the insurance companies are requiring an upfront 500 -1000 premium risk payment to cover the truck as well as rates actually doubling for certain models and other high theft target cars.
Come on!!!! Truck Stealing in Canada?? No way!! I thought the good people in the great white north were all law abiding, god fearing, hockey loving, Molson drinking, Skidoo riding, hard working people! AYYYYYYYYYY?????
The problem isn't the price of these pieces OS. The problem I have is how quickly my tax dollars are going bail these vultures out when we have VETERANS living on the streets!!!!!!
And I think we all smell the bailout in the very near future. I give it to the end of next year. We should not allow this, these greedy bastards just need to fail. They want to screw us over and then wait for us to pay them anyway with a bailout...it's a win/win for them.
Makes you wonder doesn't it ? And yet we let politicians convince us that bailing out our kids from 20years of school debt ,is a bad thing that our tax dollars can't pay for .
I agree with other commenters, build some base level trucks. Thing is they don't want to because they make huge profit off the extra trim models. I bought a base level truck, the next trim level up was $5-$8 K more and all it had for that money was some decals and different wheels, next trim up for another $8k was a back up camera and Navi. I put a camera and navi on for $200, don't need bigger wheels cause that's just more money when I need new tires. Like you said, when they can't sell them they will crush them and get a government bail out at our expense. The world's gone mad with greed.
I was lucky enough to grow up poor enough that dad had to fix his own cars, so I learned to fix cars too. So I buy older used trucks, repair them and then drive it for a few years, sell it and do it again. I never understood paying hundreds of dollars a month for something that sits in the driveway most of the time. Especially since these new cars & trucks break down often and are almost impossible to work on anymore. You'd need a $10,000 scan tool to diagnose one of them.
I'M outraged for sure! The manufacturers have lost their damned minds. The best thing we can do as consumers is let them sit, unbought, on the lots and rust. Maybe then these manufacturers will figure out that $80,000-plus is a ridiculous asking price for a damned pickup truck! I, for one, would not buy one for that price even if I won the lottery.

When I tried to get the $50,000 the bank fought me every step of the way. I finally gave up on buying it. When I see regular working getting loans for these $100,000 trucks it blows my mind.
In 78 I bought a house in vegas for 43,600. I still can't believe how the prices of everything have just gone through the roof in so few decades. It's the same ole game, raise prices faster than you raise wages. Gives people the illusion of actually getting a raise.
I tow a 30 plus foot camper and I needed a bigger truck. Started looking around at 2500’s and knew right off I couldn’t afford a new truck. Found a 2015 with fairly low mileage and still paid close to 40thousand. This was over a year and a half ago. Even the used sales are more than what people can afford
the only way to get these prices down is to walk away. Let the dealers and the manufacturers eat their products. Insane prices!
But people won’t stop buying them, and most of the people buying these have no business doing so. I can’t imagine going into that kind of debt for a truck.
This is the answer. If we are willing to buy above sticker- that is 💯 on the buyers.

What's going to happen is they are going to scream and cry to the Biden Administration for a bailout and his administration will say yeah we will bail you out but we're going to need more rainbow colored electric dildo-mobiles on the road because of climate change.

They're barely worth $50k more like $40k
I remember when you could go buy a new basic bare bones work truck from a dealership for 15k. The fact that trucks went into the luxury market and then became the focus is absurd. The used market for 20 year old trucks has skyrocketed because people need a truck to get things done but can't afford these new ones. It isn't just Chevy either but all the manufacturers.
It's also the EPA trying to make these trucks get Honda Civics mpg's and people buying trucks and not using them for what they were made for.
I always roll my eyes when reading the list of "add-ons" that these trucks are marked up with. I don't give a good gosh dang about bluetooth this and hands-free that. How about you just keep your hands free of my wallet. Good Lord.

Except Toyota! 💯👍

Drops by half when it rolls off the lot, somethings never change
And it gets worse if they actually use the truck and it's not just a glorified grocery getter.

I don't know if you notice but the trend has been for manufacturers to build bigger at every redesign park anything from the 1980's next to its contemporary counterpart and you will see it, they get taller, wider, and longer every year, with the exception of truck bed size.
They don't even build entry level vehicles for average working families. They could take $50,000 off and still more than i would pay.

And these people will have these new cars/truck repo'ed within a few months of purchase wen they find they just can't afford it.

NO.. blame the stealerships AND the banks who approved all these bad loans.

I sold Chevy trucks in 1982. We were selling half ton base trucks for $4,488. Extra hundred bucks for a rear step bumper. Go figure.

I bought my first house a 3 bed 2 and a half bath for 46k. I just dont see why anyone would pay close to or over 100k for a pickup truck.

Maybe then these manufacturers will figure out that $80,000-plus is a ridiculous asking price for a damned pickup truck! I, for one, would not buy one for that price even if I won the lottery.
I’m in my late 40’s. My Mom bought a brand new car the year I was born for $2500. By the time I was in high school, only luxury cars were over $25,000. This is nuts and absolutely not sustainable. At this rate, a new car will be $500,000 within 20 years
Have you seen where the dealership owners live? I knew one personally that lived in a gated community, drove two Ferraris, his wife a Mercedes SUV with her “New” boobs. This is the lifestyle they’re trying to maintain. The rest of us have to cut back on expenses.
@@MFXdump All the more reason why people need to stop paying it. Negotiate them down or don't buy. Don't bother buyin' brand new. Get something at least 3-4 years old that is reliable and as low of mileage you can get.
40 years ago Youre mom made MAYBE 7 bucks an hour and you make 20 plus dude
@@mtbasshead houses were $35,000-45,000. One income could support a large family comfortably. Income has not increased with the rises in prices and inflation. This not sustainable. When a new truck is $250,000 lets see if everyone is making $100 an hour and can afford them
@@MFXdump my Uncle owned a large GM dealership in the 80’s. He was the richest person, and only rich person in my family. My cousins had their own wing of his house.
I have a handful of friends that bought these 100k trucks, their monthly payment is $1300/mo and they think they got a GOOD deal. I always have to bite my tongue when they talk about it.
My 21-year old, 164K Durango is lookin' better and better all the time!
This is what happens when you shop for monthly payments instead of purchase price. They'll give you a loan long enough to get you out the door.
A 9 year loan though? RIDICULOUS!
@@devinsinderwitcz9134😅
I still think most are LEASED.
@@josephvoytus3694 As of right now, you are correct. My wife just did another lease about a month ago because to purchase price plus the NEW interest rates right now, made her used lease payment MORE than she would pay to just lease a brand new car for another 3 years...
Still over $1,100.00
We need to form a buyer’s union and hold collective buying strikes in order to force price-drops. Truck enthusiasts unite!
Also to push out unwanted electronics and emissions!!
It is called don't buy them.
@@tb7280 yes, but in order for that to have a significant effect, we have to collectively not buy them together and starve the dealers of sales. Then hit them all at once with purchases.
I worked with the longshore union my entire career and saw people at their worst, therefore hate unions. However you may be onto something here? Remember gas wars? Never go to the more costly stations therefore driving costs down. Again, you have a great idea.
I bought a used truck at a car lot in 06, and haven't bought another truck since then, nor plan to anytime soon. I'm doing my part I guess.
I tried to get a $50,000 mortgage on a house 5 years ago (that same house today sold for $i69,000) with very little work or money put in it.
Considering there’s no one else walking that lot… I don’t think they even know their target market 😂
I don't know how he wasn't rushed at by 20 sales people telling him to come on in I will get you into a truck today 😉
Facts! On top of that they'll lowball you on your trade and try to sell that same trade in for 3x's what they offered you. 🤨
You bought it during the height of used vehicle inflation. I wouldn't use 2020-2023 as an example of a normal market - they are outliers.
