  • Soil testing for a septic system requires an in-depth study of the lot characteristics, topography and soil profiles.
In a site investigation for a proposed septic system, the registered practitioner must identify limiting conditions, soil profiles and topographical challenges.
From the data an appropriate report and design are composed for the regional health authority.

This video is quite educational. Great informational tools to the novice looking for construction sites. I'm surprised this video doesn't have quite a bit more views. Thank you for this insight!

Great video! I had a soil map done and it said the land was unsuitable and needed a percolation test. No bedrock outcropping and the land is not in a flood zone. Should I proceed with the percolation test?

Often there is always a solution to most soil problems. It’s a matter of finding out what is going on below grade. We like to see up to 6ft and look at all the soil horizons and possible limiting or restrictive conditions. It’s always a good idea to assess the soils so you know exactly what you’re dealing with.

Get a lift station and pump the wastewater to a suitable area. Where we live, if the soil is unsuitable, we use a npdes system and discharges to the road ditch. Treated by an aerator and uv

Thanks for video. Is that permeameter homemade or commercially available? If it’s homemade could you do video showing its design or recommend commercially available product? Thanks again.

Hi Bill, thanks for the suggestion, I might just do that once I order the clear pvc, (hard to get in certain areas). My permeameter is homemade. I made 3 of them so I can test a couple of areas simultaneously with an assistant. I'll order some pieces so I can make a video on putting one of these together. Cheers

gunlover1955 every country, state or province has differed t regulations. Here in BC we have to conduct soil studies to evaluate a hydraulic loading rate pertinent to the soil type...of which there are many combinations of. We then calculate a drainfield size to adequately treat the wastewater. This isn’t about disposing, it’s about treating the water to remove pathogens, excessive nitrates and phosphates. Our regulations are quite stringent and we have to know our code books well
