Cool!! Working on an active flight line must have been incredibly exciting provided that one also paid very close attention to the safety procedures. During my Army days, I was stationed in Hawaii not far from Hickam AFB. I often went down to a viewing area just across the lagoon from Reef Runway and watched all sorts of planes come and go from Honolulu International as well as Hickam. How much fun that was, especially at dusk as the sun was setting. C5's came and went all the time. They did indeed have a sound unlike most other aircraft.

It's interesting to see so many people line up to watch this plane take off. Both This plane and the C-17 take off and land every day here in San Antonio multiple times on a daily basis and nobody bats an eye.

This was recorded back in 2016 and it's a regional small airport in northern Poland. After the start of the full scale war in Ukraine, up to 9 sorties per day have been happening in another small airport in south east Poland, Rzeszow. And after a few initial take-off nobody gathers there anymore, it became an unfortunate norm

They don't scream anymore. They changed the engines on the whole fleet a few years ago. Westover C5 ARB is near me. You always knew when one was coming into or leaving the Springfield MA area, or doing drills where they would circle the area and practice drop n go runs. 2002 to 2005 was an especially busy time.

I was about 7 years old first time I saw one fly in person. There was a weekend airshow at the airport near my house and all the planes were leaving the day after. Unfortunately the wind would have them takeoff heading away from my house instead of over it, but we were close enough to hear the jet engines. I went up on the roof of the house and sat there with my dad’s radio that could pickup the tower. When it finally took off I could see it climb from about four miles away, then turned north and flew off. Not sure if it was a C-5A or B, but it had the old white on top, grey on bottom color scheme. Even though it was so far away I was so excited to see it fly.

Years ago while in the military during basic we bivouacked at an airbase near Myrtle beach. It's been deactivated since 93. It was a terrific experience seeing the fighter jets land and takeoff. Years later I took a younger sister, who had a love for airplanes as I do, to a FL airport just to observe airplanes land and take off. There were always other groups there doing the same, taking photos and enjoying the festive atmosphere. This is a magnificent aircraft. My fave to watch is the Antonov, which I'v seen up close.

Even the AN225 used to come here at times and what a sight that was since it was the world's largest plane but now the largest plane is the Stratolaunch 6 engine job which has a wing spread of something like 375 feet. I would love to see that but it will never come here to Bangor.

Too bad they don’t upgrade the engines again, maybe use the engines that the 747-8 have rated at 100,000 lbs of thrust. Mind you these hand on pylons that are made from one piece of forged titanium (and with $200,000,000,000 in missing pentagon funds), I’m sure they could afford them for the fleet of C5’s.
