I CAN optimize categories and keywords. I CAN mobilize a dynamic launch team! I CAN create a strategic promotion strategy utilizing a variety of online tools and resources. And... I WILL become a bestselling author this time, thanks to SPS! Also, there is such a sweet, collegial spirit among SPS authors. There is a powerful sense of collaborative learning and mutual support for each other's journeys. Competition is nowhere to be found. This sentiment is desperately needed right now, as so much of the world struggles with the drastic effects of the pandemic compounded by political strife and unrest. Kudos to Chandler Bolt and the entire team for facilitating this "oasis-like" environment.

Just an experience--my illustrator and I put together over several years a children's picture book that I thought was 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Decided to go for KDP publishing, and over several weeks nearly finished the many parts you fill out. As we uploaded our artistic cover though, it became clear they do NOT support 8 1/2 by 11 inch picture books, if they are landscape orientation. In fact, what we have is actually an 11 by 8 1/2 inch book. So we are now on the hunt for another way to print, in the right size for these lovely watercolors my illustrator drew and painted. But it interested me that nowhere is the concept of orientation of a book mentioned in KDP, would certainly have saved us time! Thanks for the solid info!

I recently attended Author Advantage Live, SPS's signature annual event. One of their fine presenters presented on how to pitch a podcast (I believe it was Sloane Ketchum). She provided numerous templates. While she was in the middle of her presentation, I photographed her "sample pitch sheet" and before her presentation was over, I modified it and sent it to 5 podcast hosts. Before AAL continued the next day, I was booked on all five podcasts! I kid you not! I have already appeared on 3 of them; I've used the pitch a few more times and continue to get more bookings. The Self-Publishing School is an environment that everyone involved with them will bend over backwards to help you in any way they can. If you don’t get what you need to succeed, it isn’t their fault but yours because you didn’t ask. There are so many resources available that, at times, it seems overwhelming. They have personal coaching calls available and lots of group coaching calls. It doesn’t matter about what genre you want to write in... they have something to help you. They are willing to help and guide you along your journey, all you need to to is reach out and take their hands. I highly recommend enrolling in the courses you can afford. You won’t regret your decision.
How does one list oneself personally as the publisher? My whole manuscript is totally done including proofing, illustration, and back/front cover. I have been doing the self publish education to get this done. Your video is very informative. I am glad you made those distinctions.

My current choice (Edition One) does not offer online distribution, but initially, I already have a built-in audience. Another downside is it will take 2 months for delivery. Do you have a preferred list of art book publishers?
Self Publishing School is amazing. They care about the people who are trying to write books. It can be such a personal process because so many times we are telling true stories. The education piece is amazing. Never knew there was so much involved! Guess it is kind of like a car -- yes, you can get in, turn the key, shift the gears and go BUT how much better is it if you know how to put the gas in, change the tires, add windshield washer fluid and all of that other stuff. Self Publishing School education does that - only for books!

having watched this fairly attentively i still have no ideas what aggregators, if any, are compatible/acceptable for amazon kindle exclusive. I've certainly heard of smashwords and publishdrive but I've no idea if they are at all for me based on this video.
Kindle Unlimited is the only exclusivity contract on Amazon and it's for ebooks. Meaning if you list your ebook on kindle unlimited, you are not able to publish the ebook elsewhere. You can publish through Amazon and still distribute elsewhere for other formats

I used Trafford as my first publisher--a disaster, absolute and unequivable; Second publisher was Lit-Fire--now defunct--another incredibly bad self-publisher. I have found that most all who use the Philippines as their production arm...are, well, in one gracious word--bad, okay two words--very bad.
