Marty was my husband’s favourite singer, and I love him too, anything he sings he’s perfection, none will ever have the emotion and tone that Marty had.
Hi Tarquin!Maby this was never a big hit of Marty, but with his voice and his performance it is alway's a tophit for me.Thank you for posting this vid,I never heard it before, but once again you did a great job.
Tarquin45 You mentioned that "He Stopped Loving Her Today" being considered as the greatest country song ever written. Any song to be deemed the greatest is so subjective. I have also heard that "Long Black Veil" is also considered the greatest country song ever written. It certainly is the most covered country song. The duet of Johnny Cash and Joni Mitchell singing "The Long Black Veil" shows why the song is at the very top of all-time greatest country songs.
Yep, guilty, I was subliminally channeling the melody of "Save the Last Dance For Me" when I wrote this song, my only excuse is I was young and dumb, haha, my best songwriting was still ahead of me. But what a thrill it was to be a new kid in town and to get a job playing piano for Marty Robbins. Sometimes when he wasn't flying and was riding on the bus with us, he would get out his little Martin guitar and sing on and on, what a treat that was, to get to listen to a little private concert from this man with the unbelievably great voice. What wonderful memories. It seems almost like forever ago, because it was.

From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
One of the finest male vocalists of all time.
Marty, Roy Orbison Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, Dolly, and Loretta are in my top 10 all-time favs. The golden voices that made one's heart swoon. 🥰👍🏼

Trying to learn how to play guitar to this song. Thinking I may be too old now.
I wonder why Bear Family didn't put this one on their box set of Marty?

The tunes from SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME.
It does seem to be a subtle reworking of that verse melody, yes.
Anyone know what happened to Tarquin45 ? I never see any posts from him anymore.
Tarquinius, is this on one of his albums?
