Raquel's beauty was a double edged sword. It did get her a lot of roles in her career, but it also prevented her from being taken seriously as an actress.
This movie takes you right into the heart and soul of the indian people, their customs, way of life, traditions, manner of speech and their high regard for their chiefs whose word was law. This movie awakens the agony and pain of a proud nation when they see helplessly their lives being changed forever with the ruthless over riding march of the white man who destroys their race with his superiority and harsh laws to keep them ever under his control. This was a free land until it became overrun by those who occupied it.This movie makes you think again and again.😢😢
This is a.great movie which helps us further understand the problems of the proud indian people at the close of the 19th century. They had no written language and spoke with signs and committed everything to memory so they could not express deep hurt and emotions so bore them silently within their hearts and minds. They upheld nobility of character.Walks Far Woman was a lone woman who saw the night of her tribe lost in the dark and accepted the new ever changing dawn of a new age with humility and fortitude.

I don't think it is so cut and dry at all. The 5 Bands of the Blackfoot Confederacy were all Independent with variable circumstance's. Had the Sioux Joined the Blood, Peigan, Sik Sika, Stoney and the Sarcee, together things Could have been different. As a Calgarian I am proud that This corner of the vast American Plains Stayed largely Peace full.🤠🍁
Excellent movie! Raquel Welch is amazing! The movie was accurate too. I'm Indigenous and I understood their sign language. Not only that, but the regalia was spot on!! Truly amazingly detailed. Would like to see all Indigenous movies to have the same diligence in being historically accurate. Believe it or not, we are still here and some of us Know the Old Ways ;) Thanks for this film!!
She had lots of plastic surgery. In high school she was ugly. Your probably thinking of Sophia Loren. She was the all NATURAL Beauty and aged gracefully.
She was such a beautiful woman. This was wonderful. I had no idea it was based on a true life! I’m so impressed. She really should have gotten an award. For this movie.
Nothing to regret after viewing of this great western.movie - of the story,of the actress role and so on .No other acterss will ever depict better that legedary woman than Reguel Welch !
She did a great job in this movie! I think a highly under rated actress! I believed every second in this role. I agree with the person who said she deserved an academy award!
Okay I grew up with Miss Raquel Welch as the Woman in One Million Years BC. But even though I'm 65 years Old now. I wasn't aware of this little Known Film 😸🎥📽️. So I'm going to Down load it & watch it. Honestly She was a Very Special person and ultimately She was a Phenomenal Actresses as Well. So I'll just See what it's like 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.

From the movie's Wikipedia page... The film was announced in June 1979, and filming took place later that year. It was made by Raquel Welch's own production company. There were reportedly a number of clashes involving Raquel Welch and the director on set. Welch admitted the role represented "a change of pace" for her. Reception: The film aired in the UK in 1980. It was not screened in the US until 1982 because some NBC executives thought it was "a disaster".Brandon Tartikoff of NBC cut 25 minutes from the film before it aired. The New York Times said "there is nothing dreadfully wrong with Miss Welch's performance... it's just that the entire story is boring." It was the highest-rated TV movie of the year.
Saw this movie when I was a very young, still good!! My ancestors walked "The Trail of Tears." I remember one day at the farm, I ran to see the train as I always did and my heart was broken when the big black iron train did not appear but a modern white streamline. The old steam engine was NO MORE. Things change, I did not like it.🥺
You are absolutely Right with that Statement. And I'm going to Say that unfortunately Money 💸💰💸 is the Root of Evil & Evil intentions as well. But apparently that's what Society Craves for.
Sadly, due to being part Hispanic, talented, beautiful, & not bedding her way up, probably caused Raquel Welch to lose on what she truly deserved as far as Accolades. ❤
Great movie. Great acting by Raquel Welch. Indigenous Peoples sentiment in a movie, ahead of its time. Interesting the movie didn't steer away from "Women as property" which is one of my dislikes of Indigenous cultures across the globe. We also didn't see infanticide nor elderly people being left to starve & freeze. Tragically, the use of horses, taking up of firearms & signing of treaties, didn't stop the genocide & loss of cultures.
In Lakota culture, if a man were to do that, he would be banished. A woman owns the lodge and she can set his items out at any time. Abuse is not tolerated or was not, before the impact of colonization.
Always loved this movie and even tried to buy a copy of it but there was none to find. Maybe it was never for sale for individuals. It’s hard to find many native movies.
I remember watching this movie for the first time in 1982. After watching the movie Windwalker, the first Indigenous movie that I saw was all in the native language of Cheyenne and the Crows with English subtitles. Fantastic movie, both of them. ❤ 😊
I have had an 18" tipi made by EARTHWORKS since about 1992. I used it for Mountain Man Rendezvous re-enactments, but also lent it to the Elders from Ute, and Choctaw Nations and for gatherings at my Cherokee and Abenaki friends' property.
❤ moving tale beautifully played . It’s such a shame that no matter where the white man went , even to the four corners of the globe he never co existed with the indigenous people of the land but always tried to eradicate them though greed or religion or hatred
Just so those of you who have not studied tribes, the Sioux ( a french word from Nadouwesioux (sp?) meaning 'little snakes'. Or more accurately known as the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota were sworn enemies of the Blackfoot. Fact is, hardly anyone got along with the Blackfoot. !
My great grandma lived and raised 13 children, my grandma was born in 1889. She lived to be 106 if she had lived three more months she would have been 107.
The description of this actress by Wikipedia I found unfair. He's talking about a plastic actress, that is to say without talent. For me, in this film, she shows me that she is a talented actress.
Silence long carrier nobody was berates than rock. Welch she is the buatest ❤ever this time dominate😂 win the Oscar congratulations watch first time greatest movie🎉klass❤
I keep trying to find the entire ending where she talks to her grandson and his girlfriend and says It's time now, and sits down to watch The Lone Ranger or another western series on television.

Wow, Raquel was in this movie in 1982? What a corny movie, but hey it's Raquel Welch... shame on the movie producers for not giving her better movies... but I respect her even more, because we all know why now...
Nothing corny about a True life story. What will be the legacy of your life lived, will it be a story of Courage to stand for Honesty,Respect for others with integrity, moral responsibility, faith and the discipline to defend and fight against evil, question yourself before imposing judgement, lest you be judged by the failures and shortcomings of your own life lived .

Raquel was always under valued as an actress. This movie really proved her ability. Definitely Academy Oscar quality.
Raquel's beauty was a double edged sword. It did get her a lot of roles in her career, but it also prevented her from being taken seriously as an actress.
Never seen this one only proves how talented and beautiful Miss Welch was one of the greatest.
It was first shown on NBC. I remember it well.
She was such an icon in my college days almost every dorm room had her poster from movie One Million BC. RIP Raquel.
