- Is Starting Line Up Done? NBA Fans and collectors are finding Hasbro's Starting Lineup 6" action figures on clearance at Marshalls, TJ Max and Ollies for $12.99 a 75% Loss of value from their initial price of $49.99. Will Hasbro, Fanatics, Panini rebound with NFL Starting Lineup?
Wave 1 consisted of players from multiple teams including Boston Celtics Jayson Tatum, Atlanta Hawks Trae Young, Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant, philadelphia 76ers Joel Embiid, LA Lakers LeBron James, Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry, Dallas Mavericks Luka Dončić, and Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo.
What do these clearances mean fro the Starting Lineup which was a partnership between Hasbro Fanatics Panini originialy priced at $49.99 with the NFT Component adding $20 to the prices of the action figures.

I remember when they announced these. I wasn't really interested so I didn't catch the price then but... $49.99?! Yowza! What on earth were they thinking? Doom from the start. R.I.P. G.I. Joe O-ring Line, Indiana Jones Adventure Series, Indiana Jones Retro Collection and now... Starting Lineup. At least MotU did well...
These needed to be much cheaper to ever take off. Sports fans aren't going to spend $49.99 for an action figure of their favorite player like a geek would spend $49.99 on an action figure of their favorite Comic/cartoon/Anime Hero. I can't see this NFL line doing any better. It's crazy to me how Hasbro is okay with losing TONS of money trying to bring back these dead sports lines but is not okay with spending extra money on giving already successful lines more value for the cost. Unreal.
Just got the lebron James one for 11 bucks at Ross. Used it for parts for a kitbash I was working on lol I was hoping the line would continue to make legendary players like Michael Jordan or Allen iverson and such
A couple great figures, just rolled out so lazily and greedily. A shame
I just picked up a Luka Doncic today at a nearby Ollie's for $7.99, these are still sitting on the store shelves months after this video posted. What a shame these were such a flop with terrible marketing behind them, after opening the Luka it really is a well designed figure with plenty of accessories and a nice trading card too... This series surely would have been more successful had they just went with a $24.99-$29.99 price point at mass retail (as far as i know, retailers like Walmart and Target never stocked these in stores). Bummer that we probably won't see more in the future, would've liked a few more basketball figures with players like Jokic & Wemby and football would've been awesome too, definitely would have picked up a couple of the QBs like Burrow & Mahomes.
Starting NFL now would be stupid. It's all about nostalgia and collectors though. They could sell Jerry Rice, Emmett Smith, etc for 30 bucks each. But TJ Watt, Josh Allen, even Mahomes aren't gonna sell for 50
They were way expensive, way worse than mcfarlane which was released 25 years ago. So failure is inevitable. Why are you suprised?

There are fans who will purchase the discounted versions of these sports figures, collectors might be a bit picayunish about not having all the extras. Some people are fans, others collectors, and some are even both.
My interest in MOTU Origins was rekindled purely by happenstance, I was looking up how much the value of my favorite villain Faker might of increased. I found someone had sold a 2nd edition Faker opened/un-carded, no armor and no weapon [sword] went for just under $ 3K.

I had high hopes as I had a few of the original Starting Lineup baseball figures, but the price was just way too high.
Now McFarlane is releasing the NFL figures like he did years ago so I'm wondering if the license with Hasbro did lapse and that's why we never saw the SLU NFL line.
From day 1 I said the SLU figures needed to be in the sports collectable and memorabilia shops, that's their demographic, and I would go inside some of these shops from time to time wondering if they had them and sure enough they did not. Heck, Footlockers, Champ Sports, sporting goods stores, all of these should have been carrying these in their stores. Limited exposure killed the line more than anything IMO.
The players they chose for the first NBA wave was not bad, they're the current stars of the league, but what they should have done is release at least one or two stars from past eras as well.
Too pricey
I see all the great customizing of the originals turned into todays players, I think SLU missed the mark with the new scale and packaging. Bring back the original size and packaging and collectors card.
Just saw the NFL starting lineup announced, it’ll be a bunch of random current players I couldn’t care less about. Not sure if there is a single Footballer I’d even buy, but Joe Nameth or Bo Jackson etc would make sense to me. Let’s not forget…. the FRIDGE! literally an actual Hasbro figure they could do… probably won’t 😅

Simply put the NBA is not what it used to be. Lebronze isnt MJ. Curry isnt Magic. And I knew this was going to fail from the moment I saw it was coming back.
Hard AGREE, if this has been Shaq, Jordan, Bird, Barkley, etc. they wouldn’t be able to keep them in stock. I would have also bought the entire Major League movie Cleveland Indians roster. I DO NOT WATCH SPORTS! but that’s what people want , characters and famous players. Not some NFT trash with a tattoo free current player. I only knew 2 of the players from the actual line-up 😂

HASBLOW charges too much money for cheap and shitty products. All "TOY" companies have lost their greedy minds and have been confused by too many brown nosing collectors making them think that people would choose overpriced low quality toys over food, gas and housing. It was never a sustainable business model to charge these ridiculous prices for plastic and now they had to find out the hard way. Not to mention a "starting line up" line only works if they kept it retro, people want updates of the original line not a new line recycling the name. I've been saying this for years none of it is rocket science. 😑
